This guy tells it pretty good. there are only 8 videos though

codegladiator··on Ask HN: What should I do when asked for SOC2?
If you are hosted on cloud, you can probably ask your cloud provider for it. for instance digital ocean provides it (i was recently asked for the same for one of my services, and you can say no to banks)

> Our NYC2 facility is SSAE16 SOC-2 Type II certified. > Our NYC3 facility is SSAE16 SOC-2 and SOC-3 compliant.

codegladiator··on Ask HN: Rust or Golang?
But what is the downside to what you are saying ? We have experiences from golang devs and rust devs all available to be compared here in a thread and other thread (the discussions change as time changes)

Isn't this why we are here ? Share what you have experience with, who even knows everything ?

codegladiator··on Ask HN: Rust or Golang?
> library ecosystem and other factors become more important

I guess this is what OP is asking here

codegladiator··on Ask HN: Rust or Golang?
golang has much more libraries available to be reused (not as much as java but still much more than rust)
codegladiator··on Web Performance Profiling: Google.com
That's quite an interesting page.

They had a recent outage after 3 years

> 2017.07.24 roughly 21:50 to 22:10: Unexplained network outage at UIC.

> 2020.04.20 roughly noon GMT: Power outage at UIC.

codegladiator··on Web Performance Profiling: Google.com
> But Google has x million machines

That's because google has that amount of traffic. I am sure a hn hug would take the cypto site down.

codegladiator··on Web Performance Profiling: Google.com
Are you comparing search with a static page load ?

Just compare the google page load if you want to compare with that ?

codegladiator··on Web Performance Profiling: Google.com
I did read the article that's I picked to sentences from there. I did not pick up from the article that chrome counts inline data as requests and I did not know that earlier.

I find that even more odd that inline data is counted as requests.

edit: stand corrected, thanks for pointing out

codegladiator··on Web Performance Profiling: Google.com
> How to Be Fast, Like Google

>> Make Less Requests

From 130 requests, that's an odd takeaway.

codegladiator··on We now consider Moment.js to be a legacy project in maintenance mode
It "done" really, and I can use it today knowing its pros and cons. It would be "dead" if it had a glaring flaw which couldn't be fixed (which I don't think mutability is)

Every project has cons and they should embrace it and call it out like this project did instead of forever targeting a perfect library but nothing is perfect. It serves its purpose.

I am not sure if they are telling people not use it just because chrome now says to exclude it or they came up with it independently.

codegladiator··on We now consider Moment.js to be a legacy project in maintenance mode
I wish more software/libraries would mark themselves as "Done" instead of sending one update every week and a ui refresh every 6 months. Software engineering is the only field where we keep building a single thing forever until it becomes a hot mess.

codegladiator··on What's so hard about PDF text extraction?
also tetpdf (paid) works really well (used it for extracting transactions from account statement pdfs) (demo works for 2-3 pages). I actually used a combination of tabula and tetpdf.
codegladiator··on Fuck Cloud Messaging
Okay, I get it, author provides another analogy as well thogh, probably more apt. Their own location services.
codegladiator··on Fuck Cloud Messaging
I really dislike the "to save the battery" reason. Lets also disallow games to save the battery ?
codegladiator··on List of All Current TLDs

> You have to look at your keyboard to hit the function keys

No, you are doing it wrong. Never need to see keyboard except when using touchbar thanks to no feedback.

codegladiator··on Letsencrypt, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly
> This is unacceptable for a project that tries to make something easier and where convenience, not financial considerations are a big driver in adoption.

Financial considerations are the big driver for letsencrypt. Not sure why OP think otherwise ? Easier and convenience is secondary and served by certbot/acme.

codegladiator··on More people are searching for an inbox that protects their privacy
Auto translate pages was quite a handy feature, you are probably complaining about it being enabled by default.

Until some time ago there used to be a prompt indicating that the page was translated. But haven't used chrome in a long time.

codegladiator··on More people are searching for an inbox that protects their privacy
All email clients (non-web) do the same thing (including sync). And you can plug imap/smtp into almost every email client.

As for the gmail web client, various services are providing similar interfaces on their email service.

codegladiator··on AirMessage – Android app to interface with iMessage on a Mac
Because now we associate apps with countries, and china/russia/us/india == bad

I want spywares/adwares to be allowed without any restriction so I can install a adblock pro to block them.

codegladiator··on Gitlab reducing free tier CI/CD minutes from 2000 to 400 minutes
The free mins definitely got me started. and later I just had to attach my k8s cluster with gitlab and allow worker pods for my project builds.
