codegladiator··on Wirecard files for insolvency after financial hole laid bare
> If the auditor is too harsh/rigorous, then they risk losing the audit

How is this a thing ?

codegladiator··on Wirecard files for insolvency after financial hole laid bare
I say cardinal sin would have been not storing amounts as integer.
codegladiator··on App Clips for iOS
I guess if they put a restriction on pwa size, people will make them below 10 mbs. Right now there is no restriction on pwa size as such. and I am sure the size isn't the reason for going with this and not pwa.

> Instead of asking for credit card information, you can take payments using Apple Pay.

But can I ask for credit card information and not use "Apple Pay". The "instead" is super weird there.

Also, why not just PWA ?

codegladiator··on CERN approves plans for a $23B, 62-mile long super-collider
I guess this might be a stupid question, but how does the size of the circle matter ? I mean, the particles are going in a round, wouldn't that be like infinite from the particles prespective, so is it related to the turn rate or something ?

Why is this being up voted ?
codegladiator··on What adolescents think of mindfulness in schools
yeah you are right, so probably an expert meditator might be able to "not think". what we were told to do is think of a single thing/tought/phrase and just keep repeating it, basically minimise the storm of thoughts to one.
codegladiator··on What adolescents think of mindfulness in schools
Sorry I might be wrong here but I feel you are not doing it right. I am told to "not think" during meditation, while you mention "Thinking about those things" which seems not "not think".

Obviously I am no expert or actually even any good at meditating, but maybe try learning from a different teacher who might be able to help you out in this.

Just to reiterate, I might be wrong here and if that's the case just ignore my comment :)

codegladiator··on What adolescents think of mindfulness in schools
> risk of harm for a few people

What harm from meditation ?

codegladiator··on Apple sends a letter to Hey: Change your app or get out of the App Store
> First, if an app is a way to exclusively consume content purchased elsewhere, like songs or movies or podcasts, they don't have to have in-app purchases

So that might just work, you consume a coupon on the app ? Or not even that, purchase just associated with account

Woah nice this works without JS, I wasn't expecting that !
codegladiator··on Discussion on renaming master branch gets heated, then shut down

So now 'default' is out too ? This is absurd.

Yeah I know, I should have added a /s to my comment.
codegladiator··on You can bypass YouTube ads by adding a dot after the domain
Because the APIs where too permissive and plugins would be a threat to privacy of the user because they could intercept everything.
codegladiator··on Ask HN: Moving from a startup to a big co, what should I be aware of?
Can't agree to this more. And depending on the size of the company, it might not be just few weeks, things which you would think should have been done in a month might take up to a year. And meanwhile everyone WILL keep talking about moving fast.

People will keep coming in and going out and you would end up have the same conversation with many people many times. And everyone will try to suggest "one change" at a time.

And there is nothing wrong with all this. This is just how big companies work, you cant fast-forward any of it.

codegladiator··on The Go Language was rid of blacklist/whitelist and master/slave
Fair enough. I did check the link but didn't see that one.
codegladiator··on The Go Language was rid of blacklist/whitelist and master/slave
The leader/follower for master/slave seems pretty clear, similarly for blocklist/allowlist. Your argument seems to be 'because we have been doing it like this' or 'has been used in so many places' which I don't agree with too much as a reason to keep using it.

This change seems to actually bring in better terms and clearly understandable.

codegladiator··on The Go Language was rid of blacklist/whitelist and master/slave
> with alternatives you can easily make errors in and which make understanding the code harder

blacklist/whitelist => blocklist/allowlist

how's that making the code harder to understand ? or errorprone ?

codegladiator··on C implementation of Tic-Tac-Toe in a single call to printf

How's that a single call ?

codegladiator··on Ask HN: Why should I use Brave vs. Firefox?
Use both.
codegladiator··on My experiment with clear and direct communication
It's a mistake to think that "speaking" is communication. And it's worse when one thinks 'but what I am speaking is true'.
codegladiator··on Show HN: Grid.js – Advanced table library that works everywhere
What's the "Advanced" part in this ? Vue/quasar tables already provide extensive functionality and I am sure there are react and angular alternatives.

I don't think there is a need for a library to work across vue/react/angular at the same time because no single person is going to use those in a single project.

I appreciate the project since I am frequently looking for js grid implementations but what the differentiator here ? Is it performance or styling or flexibility or just variety of frameworks ?

codegladiator··on Ask HN: How does Clearbit Reveal know who I am?
not sure what you are talking about. it shows me couple of random websites which i have never visited (eg asana ? and selseforce twice this day ?) which makes no sense or atleast completely random to entice the visitor
codegladiator··on Translation from VC-Backed PR Jargon to English of Magic Leap CEO Statement
They would probably had to literally burn up $2.4B with nothing to show frankly. It did some good in the sense handing out money to people I guess ?
codegladiator··on Ask HN: Should I give in to voice assistants?
My MIL gave us a Google home mini as a gift. I plugged it in and played with it for a few days in hopes to embrace it (after not using it for like 3-4 weeks). Then one day I found out I can see what recording were being made somewhere inside the google accounts page.

There were lots of recording completely unrelated to anything I said to google. Like not just things said after a "Ok google" trigger. It had recordings at random moments.

Now its back in the box.

Not sure what is the point you are trying to make. What high road did I take ?

And how does this matter to the commend that OP made which I was replying to ?

> Why shouldn't they charge for a great product ?

They should charge from the beginning.

> When Google charges it's a problem

Where is that ? It's a problem when it's abrupt.

codegladiator··on Facebook Novi: Wallet for Libra Digital Currencies
I guess what that means is the "fee" is cut out from the flow. Meaning it's not there.
