coldseattle··on Apple says new MacBook Pro keyboard won't fix sticky key issue
Nothing. It's just a True Apple Believer's attempt to introduce some FUD.
coldseattle··on Apple says new MacBook Pro keyboard won't fix sticky key issue
Wow! This is really bad if it's not going to get any better. I've already switched from Apple several years ago (when there was no more viable desktop "Pro" option for me), and I suspect more true "pro" users will do the same.

Maybe Apple simple doesn't care about (or need) pro users. That's fine, I guess. They want to go in other directions. It could be that 'pros' are too expensive to have as customers.

coldseattle··on MacBook Pro with faster performance and new features for pros
Apple sends hardware to movie production companies. They’ve been doing this for years.

For that matter, why wasn't this more widely publicized?

It's just what happens....some people capture the public's hearts and minds, and some don't.

coldseattle··on Having Alzheimer’s at 38 (2015)
He only seemed slightly overweight. I think this is only to be considered when a patient is significantly overweight or obese. Dementia rates are certainly higher in the Obese population.

In any event--this man had a confirmed genetic condition that was the definite cause of his dementia. He was going to get it, no matter what actions he took.

While it may be true that some dementia in obese people may not have manifested if that person did not overeat, that is not the case here.

I recommend you read the article.

Light switches should disappear. Lights should turn themselves on as needed or when asked to.

My piano has 92 keys. (Bosendorfer 225). 85 keys was pretty common until the 1920s. And the third pedal is relatively new. Some pianos (Fazioli) have 4 pedals.

coldseattle··on Millionaires Flee California After Tax Hike
I just stopped working. Between state and local taxes, I only got to keep 46 cents of every additional dollar I earned. I shut down my business, let 6 people go, and stopped.
coldseattle··on With EFF’s help, language teacher responds to threat over ‘invalid’ patent
There are some very popular consumer products like Dyson fans and vacuums that enjoy patent protection. They've expanded the market and spurred new innovation in a stale market.
coldseattle··on With EFF’s help, language teacher responds to threat over ‘invalid’ patent
Of course there are instances where copyright and/or patents have helped an economy.

You don't think that popular books and movies like the "Harry Potter" series helped the economy? People pay for the licensed content and entire industries are born that don't hurt anybody, and nobody is coerced to partake in it.

coldseattle··on DjVu, an open PDF alternative
This may be an acceptable format for some electronic versions of scanned books, but it's not a "PDF Alternative".

Also PDF is an open format.

coldseattle··on He Died at Pompeii, but His Head Wasn’t Crushed by a Block
I don't know. I think I'd rather have my head crushed "instantly" by a 600 pound block than asphyxiate over several minutes breathing in hot ash.
coldseattle··on Apple Engineers Its Own Downfall with the Macbook Pro Keyboard
I wonder if most Apple users, and the ones they tested the keyboard with, simply don't use the machines very much. Their core demographic update their social media profiles, and sit in coffeeshops, but how many of them write software? The people here are certainly important for their business, but were missed when Apple was designing a machine for appearance and not functionality.

coldseattle··on U.S. Supreme Court to hear civil forfeiture case
No. They aren't forcing a particular private party to provide personal accommodations to an individual soldier.
coldseattle··on U.S. Supreme Court to hear civil forfeiture case
"Quartering Troops" sounds archaic, but every now and then lawmakers propose it, like forcing private airlines to provide discounted or free arrangements for servicemen traveling. (As opposed to negotiating rates with them, or soliciting competitive bids). These proposals usually don't get very far, but it shows you that the Government still thinks it's OK to _force_ a citizen or private business to give free services or accommodations to soldiers.

(For example, see https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/08/congressman-bruce-... and https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/08/delta-troops-afgha... The Government should reimburse him, and try to negotiate the best rates from the Airlines. I'd be all for the Airlines offering a discount, but they shouldn't be forced to.)

coldseattle··on U.S. Supreme Court to hear civil forfeiture case
Maybe so, but did you read the article? This is a person who the Government decided to do a forfeiture after a conviction. I'm glad the SCOTUS is looking at this because it seems to be adding additional penalties after a conviction. However, in the past additional penalties implemented after a conviction (like sex offender registries) have been upheld.
coldseattle··on Sleep Scientist Warns Against Walking Through Life 'In an Underslept State'
Addicted people—-including food addicts—-never want to hear the truth. And the pro-obesity movement costs society greatly.
