> You will need a backend anyway. It'll need to expose data to users. Exposing it as HTML is no harder than doing it via JSON or GraphQL
Sure, if your "app" is just buttons and UI that interacts with a backend DB, I agree. However, many PWAs and native apps do lots of heavy lifting on the client side, and loading the backend with that is not cheap at all!
That's why kids who grow up eating unhealthy can look healthy for a while, but eventually they look like their parents. And once the body is out of buffer, any extra calory goes straight into storage
I have given up on it because it belongs to a market that requires being a large, well-known entity (search). So I just use it for myself since I find it extremely helpful, but I am always happy when random users give me tips ans suggestions on how to improve it further. It's not 100% done and it's capped at one free search per day because again, I am not trying to grow it
I will never do this because violating privacy goes against the core of my beliefs, but there is a conflict I can't seem to work out. On the one hand, I KNOW that the vast majority of users prefer to sell their privacy than pay a single penny. They would gladly click on a "sell my data" over a "pay money" button any day of the week. I know this because I have interacted with enough users to know these things. Many users will suffer a fit when things are not free but won't lose any sleep over giving away their personal details. Again, I speak of the majority and in general terms
On the other hand, I want the internet to be a place where unscroupulous actors don't flourish. Most people don't expect to get things for free in the real world, why should the internet be any different? Why does everyone (myself included) always look for free stuff on the internet?
The worst bit of it all is that in the end, the only people interested in spending money online are data thieves and advertisers. Everyone else is giving their soul. Developers are somehow expected to work for free so that this entire edifice can stand
As a starter, one must at least eliminate all candy, sugary products, and bad oils. I look around and see no hope for society. Even "healthy meals" are just a substitute for rich, once-a-week-at-most recipes
In Spanish, the centuries-old idiom says it best: mesa pobre, mesa sana (a poor table is a healthy table). But people find that too _boring_
We are fallen creatures and simply accepting our fallen nature might be more productive
You could argue that the Taliban are the government that cares the most about addicts, because they are actually making addicts change the way a parent corrects a child
But addicts are grown ups with free will
I prefer to share my information when I want and with whom I want, but LinkedIn feels like a meat market. If FB was personal marketing 101 (only sharing what makes you attractive), linkedIn feels like an advanced course on being fake. It kind if disgusts me
However, making your apps depend on a framework has the following dangers:
- the framework might stop being maintained
- the vc-backed framework might need to become monetized beyond your means
At the end of the day, all these frameworks offer are convenience APIs to easily integrate with native things like push notifications or social sign-ins
However, even when these work, they will force you to do things their way, and you won't be able to fully customize your app
Learning how to do these things natively in iOS and Android requires extra effort but pays off in the long term. Using frameworks, the time saved in the beginning of your app development journey will be greatly offset by the extra time required to do things like editing framework output in each build towards the end of your journey
Reddit is actually a lot better in this regard
Companies moving to the cloud are only increasing their operating costs
At first I didn't know what to think. Then I learned that their teams are mostly made up of illiterate people who need a few bucks to survive. I don't blame them. Online reviews are useless, if you need to know something ask someone you know, don't just take the opinion of someone on the griftnet
