compil3r··on The biggest hackathon in the blockchain space is to launch a new token HKG
A token to fuel an accelerator isn't a bad idea at all. Most accelerators would have loved to do the same, but don't have a blockchain they verify on. This project is the first of a kind in terms of the tech.
compil3r··on It’s easier and cheaper to use bank wires than Bitcoin
Bitcoin was never intended to reduce the cost of Banks, but rather supply an alternative.
compil3r··on Unconditional Basic Income Based on Ethereum
>> My dream: This new Ethereum based token system eventually would replace the CHF (Swiss Franc). Let us transform UTOPIA into REALITY. >>

Well...

compil3r··on Git Paid – make code contributions and get paid
>> allow developers to have their wallets bound to profiles >> strange this isn't a native function..
compil3r··on Decentralised cam porn site on Ethereum
>>> Porn is a billion dollar industry and sooner or later some one will probably make a decentralised cam site. >>>

compil3r··on An Expat Has Time to Reflect, Now That the Party’s Over
The underground party scene in China (especially in Shenzhen) is getting bigger and bigger. The party isn't over and raids like that are not something that party goers are not used to.
compil3r··on This hackathon is more of a virtual accelerator
That's a great idea! Education Coin :)

"One team, for example, wants to free academic knowledge by implementing a token and blockchain-based publishing system to replace academic journals: A distributed publication platform build on Ethereum and IPFS could incentivize post-publication peer review, reduce the lag between work written and read, and save the taxpayer billions by reducing library subscription fees."

compil3r··on More Than 500 Blockchain Hackers to Battle for a $50,000 Prize
I think the case here is for a Blockchain company trying to break out of the cryptocurrency chains.
compil3r··on More Than 500 Blockchain Hackers to Battle for a $50,000 Prize
What's a good one? I don't really feel like reading 170 of them ;/
compil3r··on More Than 500 Blockchain Hackers to Battle for a $50,000 Prize
I didn't see any sponsors on their website, but there are some logos in their promotional material. As far as I remember they had Augur, the Ethereum based prediction market on there. Also, Jack, Augur's founder is on the judge list.
compil3r··on SAFE Network Alpha Release

compil3r··on Too Poor to Afford the Internet
"Today’s technology revolution promises to provide more information, more widely than ever. Yet we have left almost two million New Yorkers in the digital dark." - That is NYC, imagine Detroit, or Athens..

compil3r··on George Orwell, “Politics and the English Language” (1946)
oppressive ideology in close association with bad prose, love this essay.
compil3r··on Can this be the answer to the Blockchain/Music industry problem?
There are a few projects that are trying to tackle the music industry copyright issues, mechanical rights distribution and also p2p distribution of Creative Common releases. They all look promising, but none have seem to catch on a network effect. Early days?
compil3r··on The new California digital currency bill: How Coin Center is responding
"However, what constitutes actual delivery of cryptocurrency has not been well defined."
compil3r··on Craig Wright/Satoshi interview: “Fuck off, I’m not going to jump through hoops”
Genuinely one of the most bizarre interviews I've ever heard. Craig Wright losing it in an interview with GQ about whether he is Satoshi or not.
compil3r··on Bitcoin Bail-Ins and Yuan Bets
The issue comes into play that Bitfinex owned the private keys of all wallets in their possession, and the winners of positions were shown an accounting ledger through Bitfinex as opposed to having possession of their own coins. Now I can not pretend I know what happened behind the scenes with the back and forth between Bitfinex and the CFTC, but I can say that based on all evidence, Bitfinex was unable to pay out all positions within the required 28 day period. Verbiage within the original CFTC complaint suggests that the primary cause of this was Bitfinex's accounting system that was at fault.
compil3r··on Bitcoin Bail-Ins and Yuan Bets
BFXCoin isn't totally without precedent, as BitcoinBuilder (created in the wake of MtGox) was recognized by the Japanese courts.
compil3r··on Bitcoin Bail-Ins and Yuan Bets
+1 bitsquare

compil3r··on ‘Bitcoin Browser’ Brave Raises $4.5M, Readies for 1.0 Launch
I installed Brave when it first came out as the ad plan sounded very interesting. There was another attempt using bitcoin in the browser to 'bypass' ads, but unfortunately, it wasn't have been successful (in the network effect sense) I'm still waiting for the LastPass option :)
compil3r··on Ethereum Classic
