My opinions are, of course, my own... If they weren't, they'd be someone else's opinions.

connorgurney··on Show HN: Bento - An entire PowerPoint in one HTML file (edit+view+data+collab)
We used to have these back in the days of Windows XP in the form of “HTML Applications”, though I recall them being atrocious from a security perspective.

connorgurney··on Lies we tell ourselves about email addresses
I did similar several years ago with the .services TLD. Lo-and-behold, I bought the .com not long afterwards!
connorgurney··on Details of the Daring Airdrop at Tristan Da Cunha
I think this is one of the few things as late that makes me feel genuinely proud to be British, because, beneath the hostility that feels so rife across our country recently, we’ve so many good people making things like this happen. Bravo.
connorgurney··on Ask HN: We just had an actual UUID v4 collision...
Stripe handle this interestingly, with a prefix to the ID indicating the type of entity.

connorgurney··on Talkie: a 13B vintage language model from 1930
This is a really fascinating idea… Just another one for the list of side-projects I’d like to get around to but never will!
connorgurney··on FSF trying to contact Google about spammer sending 10k+ mails from Gmail account
It most certainly does in the UK.

connorgurney··on Head of FEMA defends claim that he was teleported
At least they could make landing on a flat, non-spherical surface would be much easier, I guess.
connorgurney··on Head of FEMA defends claim that he was teleported
Certainly not a headline that I had on my bingo card for 2026…

connorgurney··on Copilot edited an ad into my PR
Indeed. I can’t see why Copilot would promote an unrelated third-party service…
connorgurney··on Apple Business
Ah, sorry, my bad - assumed you were referring to a business use-case, given the context, but makes sense.
connorgurney··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email
I’ve been using a Clicks case since the early days and have personally loved every second of it but it’s definitely an acquired taste. Let us know how you find it.
connorgurney··on Iran-linked hackers breach FBI director's personal email
Not sure what difference the nationality of the copywriters makes…

Doesn’t Shared iPad do exactly this?
connorgurney··on Apple Just Lost Me
It’s definitely an option in the UK, as I’ve just used it, though it’s not particularly prominent.

If you choose the option to verify with a credit card and scroll down the form, there’s an option to verify another way, which allows you to use your driving license.

connorgurney··on Apple Business
Doesn’t Shared iPad enable that already?
connorgurney··on Apple Business
Mac requires separate users as other have said.

However, for iOS and iPadOS, the answer is “Sort of”.

As taken from https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/deployment/dep4d9e9cd2...:

> If a user is signed in with a personal Apple Account and Managed Apple Account, Sign in with Apple automatically uses the Managed Apple Account for managed apps and the personal Apple Account for unmanaged apps.

I’ve been doing exactly this with Jamf Pro for my personal devices. I’ll be interested to see if I can scrap it now.
connorgurney··on purl: a curl-esque CLI for making HTTP requests that require payment
It only took us 29 years but HTTP 402 Payment Required might finally mean something on a wider scale…

connorgurney··on Mobile carriers can get your GPS location
I’d imagine that the carrier will agree not to use any data they do receive for anything but a handful of purposes, but I suppose that depends on the extent of the technical solution.
connorgurney··on jQuery 4
It was once upon a time, hence them moving to HHVM to interpret it, but it’s been all but replaced with a PHP spinoff named Hacklang now.
connorgurney··on STFU
I follow that, and it's something I've struggled with in the past, but doesn't this sort of solution make them more likely to tell you to fuck off or to make a scene, rather than less?
connorgurney··on STFU
As with anything in life, it depends on how you ask.
connorgurney··on Our approach to advertising
Ongoing discussion on the same, albeit linked to a news article: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46649644
connorgurney··on STFU
I might be in a minority saying this - and particularly so here on HN - but I struggle to understand why you'd be willing to use a tool like this, as OP did, but not to politely ask someone to keep it down?
