consensus1··on Early progress on accelerating drug development with Claude
When students sued the residency system for anti-trust congress passed legislation specifically exempting them from anti-trust completely. They don't need to strike to get their way.
consensus1··on Physicists trap a single antimatter particle for a month
It's worse than that. They annihilated it completely.
consensus1··on The same AI request emits 8.5 times more CO2 in Texas than in Sweden
They need to be near a high bandwidth fiber connection, but with relatively cheap land. So the outer edges of major cities are prime locations, with Ashburn VA being the prime example. There is no reason to put them further out because the added costs don't make sense and the data centers actually have minimal impact on the surrounding population outside of hyperventilating conspiracy theorists, Ashburn VA also being the prime example.
consensus1··on The same AI request emits 8.5 times more CO2 in Texas than in Sweden
So it's just an incredibly stupid way to compare the power grids in Texas vs Sweden. It's not even accurate because the marginal watt during the day looks very different than the overall grid average.
consensus1··on Every AI model has the same "controversial" take on humans
How do you know they are not conscious?
consensus1··on Woman faces six years in prison over Cash App account she never opened
Also most of the legislators
consensus1··on Woman charged with computer fraud due to scam CashApp account being in her name
IMO low level offenses like shoplifting would be better served by a quick cheap ass kicking on the spot by the police with no charges filed. You get the deterrent effect without the massive waste of resources.
consensus1··on Woman faces six years in prison over Cash App account she never opened
If the punishment is equal to the value of the crime then as long as the rate at which you are caught is less than 100% crime is a profitable option.

Almost never. The larger the corporation the more strictly the rules are followed. I have worked for fintech startups and have some horrifying stories that would absolutely never fly at a larger company.
consensus1··on Hybrid Reasoning Agents: LLM agents that think in latent space, act through text
Can another LLM translate the intermediate thinking states into English?
consensus1··on Tesla Roadster
Tesla FSD has 1.5 million active subscriptions and is growing at 50% annually.

That is just a one OOM scaling. It's not that difficult, especially considering that Starship just delivered the 3rd largest payload ever launched and it wasn't even at capacity.
consensus1··on Meta’s new commercial terms will allow the scraping of news sites: experts
Why? Let's say I am a restaurant. How is Meta's activity here damaging to my business?
consensus1··on Meta’s new commercial terms will allow the scraping of news sites: experts
If Meta clicks on the checkbox and agrees to the TOS then it is binding on them just like any other contract. If they don't, then it isn't.
consensus1··on Meta’s new commercial terms will allow the scraping of news sites: experts
TOS has nothing to do with copyright. A TOS can prevent scraping, training, or any other activity that is not covered by copyright. Public web scraping is subject only to copyright because no TOS has been agreed to, but what Meta is doing here applies to scraping things that are not available on the public web.
consensus1··on California closed the Montana license plate loophole
Delaware LLCs are tied to real people
consensus1··on California closed the Montana license plate loophole
Because typically in tax matters the first step is to inform the person that they owe $X in taxes + $Y in penalties and give them a chance to pay up.
consensus1··on Meta’s Muse is an adorable privacy and security dumpster fire
That backlash is based on conspiracy theories about data centers using up all the water and the legitimate fear of AI taking their jobs, not anything to do with privacy.
consensus1··on Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?
I'm talking about now. Most recently the liberals took their case all the way to the supreme court (and lost) insisting on their right to run a racial quota system in universities.
consensus1··on Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?
That makes you a supporter of the existing immigration system
consensus1··on Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?
In the US it's always the liberals arguing for special treatment baked into the law for their favored groups and the conservatives argue for equal treatment. The liberals then argue back that equal treatment is de facto discrimination against then.
consensus1··on Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?
But implicit in your statement is "accept my position on immigration." You are probably not interested in giving in to the conservative position on immigration in order to get them on your side against Altman.
consensus1··on Why Is Sam Altman a Free Man?
Your heavily restricted, highly educated, legal immigration examples are a tiny fraction of what immigration is in the US. The tens of millions of unskilled illegals allowed into the country is a wage suppression tool.
consensus1··on America.gov
But why not just use a LLM?
consensus1··on A Privacy Analysis of Web and Mobile Conversational AI Agents [pdf]
The media has been hyperventilating about how evil the tech industry is for the last decade.

But we are not really like Milhouse. In reality the teachers didn't care about us enough to make fun of us in the teachers lounge. We were just that year's batch of work soon to be forgotten when they move on to the next. This is exactly the same as the advertising companies. You are just a member of the cohort of a particular target campaign. Nobody cares about you or even knows you are part of that target cohort.

Unless you become a target of the government. Then people a lot worse than any teacher you ever had will be looking through it, and they, unfortunately, do care.

consensus1··on U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve Falls to Lowest Level Since 1982
There was trust left in the US government to be scuttled? Could have fooled me.

Downvotes signal going against the hive mind, not being incorrect, so they signal to me something that I should be sure to read.

This is not telling the full story. Biden tried to block new oil and gas leases, but he was blocked from doing so by the courts. Oil production was up not because of, but rather in spite of the Biden administration.
