cpach··on eMudhra intermediate CA compromise
If FBI went to Godaddy and said, “We need a cert for www.google.com”, Godaddy would most likely refuse. Issuing that cert would leave a trail that would be extremely undesirable for both FBI and Godaddy.
cpach··on Ask HN: What's your favorite children's books?
Aaah, Krtek! Such a cute little fellow :)
cpach··on Go will reject certificate chains containing eight distrusted SPKIs
Would it really be worth the extra complexity?

Another option: Use ACME together with ARI (RFC 9773). The client checks ARI data every hour. If the cert needs to be replaced – for example like in this scenario – the CA will inform the client, which in turn would then request a new cert.

I know it’s not convenient to automate for every kind of device though. I guess in some of those cases it might be better to have a load balancer in front of the device. Or use an alternative PKI.

cpach··on Tell HN: Remember to migrate away from .name domain
Not very many, but yes

cpach··on Ask HN: What's your favorite children's books?
As a small child I liked Janosch’s books about the tiger and the bear. For example Ich mach dich gesund, sagte der Bär (I’ll Make You Well, Tiger, Said the Bear).

When I got a bit older I really enjoyed the Narnia books by CS Lewis. And The Belgariad by David Eddings.

I read a lot, but many titles are probably not available in English.

cpach··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
Uhm, okey. But how is that related to Photopea? Are you arguing that copyright laws are void for software that display ads?
cpach··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
What does that have to do with software that is financed by ads?

Why don’t you just install GIMP instead of using Photopea?

cpach··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
I’m no cop. I just want HN to keep being a civil place. I hope you agree :)
cpach··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
Well, shouldn’t that be up to the original developer? He made a product and let people use it for free. But no-one is forced to use it. And there are other image editors without any ads. Some are proprietary, and some are FOSS, e.g. GIMP.
cpach··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
Please don’t attack other HN members. It’s not nice and it’s against the guidelines.
cpach··on Tell HN: GitHub refuses to remove cracked copies of my software after a month
I don’t like ads either. So I just paid for a local image editor and use that one instead. The developer of the product gets paid, I get a great ad-free image editor.
cpach··on Ask HN: What games do you religiously play on your phone browser?
1010 https://poki.com/en/g/1010-deluxe
cpach··on Ask HN: What are you reading to your kids?
The Narnia books by CS Lewis are very good IMHO. But you might want to wait a year or two.

Did it way before that.
cpach··on Steam Frame starts at $1059
Who are they targeting with this product?

What’s the appeal? Can someone enlighten me? :)

cpach··on Google will buy half the electricity from one of Finland's nuclear power plants
I’m starting to think that perhaps the government here in .se should support new reactors. It won’t be cheap though…
cpach··on GPT-6 Astra
So what’s the tldr? :)
cpach··on The largest electric aircraft just flew [video]
There are probably multiple reasons for doing so. I imagine some reasons are business risk, freedom to innovate, freedom to take a holistic perspective and improving the possibilites for raising capital.

If you build only the propulsion system you would be 100% dependent of existing aircraft companies, which are heavily invested in jet engines. It would probably be much harder to innovate and make good design choices in such a setting.

cpach··on .name Termination
And maybe she was born like five minutes before midnight, so he couldn’t just wait an hour or two (:
cpach··on .name Termination
Huh? I don’t follow.
cpach··on .name Termination
Ouch.

IMHO, this whole TLD seems kind of messed up from the start: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.name

cpach··on Ask HN: Are Technical Blogs Dead?
Ooh. Interesting approach! Have you considered publishing a list of those blogs somewhere?
cpach··on Ask HN: Are Technical Blogs Dead?
They’re not dead. They’re resting ;-)

cpach··on Emacs 31: An unofficial guide to Markdown-ts-mode
That sounds like an improvement. Thank you for explaining!
cpach··on Emacs 31: An unofficial guide to Markdown-ts-mode
“You probably heard of this new markdown-ts-mode and decided to check it out.”

Uhm, no, I haven’t.

Why should I care if the Markdown mode uses Treesitter or not…? Does it affect the performance or UX somehow?

cpach··on When str.lower() is a security vulnerability in Python
Seems kinda logical, since that’s how the Germans did it for a long time? ẞ wasn’t introduced until 2017 or so, AFAICT.
