cploonker··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2022 – Show and tell
Works surprisingly well.
cploonker··on Ask HN: What's a side project you built to make money that hasn't?
Marketplace for painters and those looking to hire them http://ehirepainter.com/ Inspite of investing ~$50k in marketing efforts, could not get enough customers to list their projects.
cploonker··on Ask HN: What's a side project you built to make money that hasn't?
I built a corporate 360 degree employee feedback system. It is basically google-page-rank-algorithm applied to feedback system and few other mathematical tricks to auto-normalize. Not sure though so many HR heads liked the idea but i could not make them write a cheque. You can look at the first video on this page:http://www.groupraisal.com/ to know the details.
cploonker··on Ask HN: Why would seller broker not put their skin in the game?
I created a sheet which shows the same calculation as above. It shows how when the selling price increases with respect to reference price(agreed between seller and broker) both benefit. Actual listing price on MLS does not have to be same as the reference price. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RZPJ0PxdZo-tMwsTG3g7...

This ensure that the seller broker interest is aligned with the seller. And the broker will tend to come up with a realistic price as reference price rather than an inflated price before signing the contract and then constant nagging for reducing the price after signing the contract.

cploonker··on Ask HN: Why would seller broker not put their skin in the game?
How about following: asking/reference price is determined at the time of signing the contract.

"For every 1% change in the selling price, seller broker will get 10% change in commission rate. i.e.

Sell price Seller broker commission

Reference/asking price 2.5%

1% less than asking 2.25%

5% less than asking 1.25%

10% less than asking 0% (same for anything more than 10% less than asking price.

1% higher than asking 2.75%

5% higer than asking 3.75%

cploonker··on SQL interface for Elasticsearch
Absolutely agree. ES query is difficult to read.
cploonker··on Ask HN: How to monetize support of existing free and open-source projects?
Users are always looking for enhancements and willing to pay for them. Allow people to bid features up, by paying.
cploonker··on China: Crowdsourced tax enforcement
With small tweaks i think all of the shortcomings mentioned here can be taken care of. e.g. provide much larger tax rebates as lottery instead of actual money. These rebates are much more beneficial to the rich who spend the most and are the ones who evade taxes the most.
cploonker··on One hiring filter that works
I found this very intriguing and decided to try. Here is my version of the filter: http://www.careesma.in/employer/joboffer/view/id/124996

Any thoughts/feedback welcome.

cploonker··on Poll: What's Your Favorite Programming Language?
SQL is the best
cploonker··on Poll: What is Your Favorite Programming Language?
SQL

Didn't realize SQL was an option too.

cploonker··on Poll: What is Your Favorite Programming Language?
python

Wondering how the points are assigned to each language.

cploonker··on Why we need Python in the Browser
I do agree that we need a language with static typing so that one can have some level of confidence before releasing the code to production. Having said that python definitely is much better than javascript.
cploonker··on CoSQL: SQL and noSQL are really just two sides of the same coin
I agree. If noSQL/SQL vendors start providing a common query mechanism for both SQL and coSQL, it will lead to huge adoption of noSQL products resulting in a huge transformational effect on data persistence.
cploonker··on Google’s Quest to Build a Better Boss
It is very difficult to measure the quality of each manager on these eight effective habits in an objective manner. What is the opinion of this group, about, google people rank algorithm(ratings from good performers carry higher weight and vice versa) to rate employees within the company.
