cranklin··on Disassembly Required
if your source code is compiled without symbols, or if your elf executable is missing the section headers, or you've run strip, the disassembler will not give you the function names or the variable names.

LaTeX = this generation's ANSI?

Probably because most of the commonly used components are maintained separately.
cranklin··on Turning the Arduino Uno into an Apple II
This is great!
cranklin··on Limitations of the GET method in HTTP
it would also require a long poll, but is definitely useful for certain situations where a synchronous operation would take too long.
cranklin··on Most Down-Voted Stack Overflow Questions
perhaps this would be more useful if it calculated the lowest upvote to downvote ratio
cranklin··on 100% Unemployment: on keeping busy when the robots take over
autonomous vehicles and biomechanical grabbing hands are completely different than engineering software. The aforementioned tasks, while an impressive feat (especially in computer vision), are programmable tasks. To create "robots" that can engineer/create new software without a software engineer is not going to happen in this lifetime.
cranklin··on 100% Unemployment: on keeping busy when the robots take over
Too much credit given to "robots". I see this coming from Hollywood, not Hacker News.
cranklin··on F.C.C. Is Expected to Propose Regulating the Internet as a Utility
and how about water, sewage, gas?
cranklin··on F.C.C. Is Expected to Propose Regulating the Internet as a Utility
as if electricity is the only utility, right?
cranklin··on F.C.C. Is Expected to Propose Regulating the Internet as a Utility
I can dump my cable company if they piss me off. I can't do that with my utility companies

cranklin··on Dumb Ideas in Computer Security (2005)
I still prefer to go by the Jargon File's definition of "hacker" - "A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and stretching their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary." or as defined by (RFC) 1392, the Internet Users' Glossary - "A person who delights in having an intimate understanding of the internal workings of a system, computers and computer networks in particular."

In which case, hacking IS cool.

cranklin··on The End of Gangs
In my opinion, it's simpler. Gang culture is cyclic. It's simply not "cool" to be a gangster nowadays, therefore insecure kids don't aspire to be gangsters. But like all things, in time, it will be "in" again.
cranklin··on PHP 7's new hashtable implementation
Those aren't primitive types

cranklin··on Free Python Books
It would be cool to have a filter for PDF downloadable books
cranklin··on Steve Wozniak remembers the early days [video]
I appreciate the tl;dr because the video isn't working for me
cranklin··on A Shark on the Network
"A Shark on the Network" is more appropriate than "How to listen in on wireless network traffic" for this particular post. If it's a "how to listen in...", I would expect the article to introduce better passive attacks (in monitor mode) and raw packet injection attacks that don't require you to be associated to a particular access point, and finally the different wifi chipsets that allow you to perform these types of attacks.
cranklin··on A Cautionary Tale of Learning to Code
The problem is that crash-course developers are too satisfied with just making something work and most online tutorials are focused on language syntax. If you're learning to code, great for you... but I'd be scared to be part of your team, maintaining your code.
cranklin··on President Obama Calls for a Free and Open Internet
I think this statement is just a disclaimer by the president for what's to come. Does anybody truly believe that he's in favor of net neutrality?
