"Like many of the 5-10% of the population living with stereoblindness"

What? 5-10% of those with stereoblindness or 5-10% of the general population suffer with this?

crispsquirrel··on Apple suspends Siri response grading in response to privacy concerns
It still surprises me that so many people either don't care or are ok with this. Then there are those that do care but still use this stuff which absolutely baffles me, especially on hacker news.

People I work with have to do various types of training on handling lots of private data and the risks of what happens when that data is not handled properly or worse and yet they give away so much without a care in the world. Infact I talk with 2 people that agree with me in trying to keep as much of your online activity private as possible. They both use Facebook after criticising how bad the company is.

Do you collect any data from use of this app?

I think the idea is that out of habit people will open the app and be greeted with a reminder of there habits.

Uninstalling can just leave you searching for the app before you remember.

I don't really know if it will help any more than just uninstalling but I suppose for some it could.

crispsquirrel··on Tree planting: Where can I do it and which type is best?
Plating trees in your garden is always a recipe for future disputes with your neighbours, as petty as it sounds people get really uppity about keeping your shrubbery out of their view and boundaries. But that also depends where you live, I've seen a lot of trees cut down in my city over the past few years because they are a "nuisance". It's more likely that the city council just gave up on keeping them maintained or gave in on 1 or 2 complaints. Some of these trees were oaks that were most likely hundreds of years old and this is in public parks not close to any properties.

They are also trimmed down which is not as bad but not really helping the problem mentioned. Again these trees were hundreds of years old.

Planting trees in public spaces seems like a recipe for the council just taking them down. I'm not sure if it's even allowed by law.

Seeking permission from land owners would be a pain. For one they could just say no, which is fair because it's their land. But how do you go about finding out who they are in the first place?

crispsquirrel··on Tree planting: Where can I do it and which type is best?
I really want to start planting trees because this planet needs more trees, it's not a joke or some hippy movement, the consequences are real. I just feel like doing so in the UK is a bureaucratic nightmare. Plus buying trees to plant isn't cheap.

I might just start saving up for land and planting trees there if I can.

crispsquirrel··on Another death on trail to 'Magic Bus' from Into The Wild won't stop adventurers
I thought the berries just weakened him rather than killed him outright. In his weakened state he was unable to go forage for food and due to his malnourished state (especially lack of fats) could have died from the cold just as easy. I need to re-read the book though it has been a long time, I really enjoyed it and I remember having a feeling of understanding and agreeing with his way of life thanks to problems I had at the time with major depression. I remember I even planned to leave everything behind and go and head to Alaska to try and see what he saw before I probably died myself.
crispsquirrel··on Adblocking: How about Nah?
Advertisements are one thing but most of these "ads" are actually gathering more info than they advertise. JavaScript trackers are just awful if you care about privacy, which I do. It's pi-hole and no-script all the way for me until they stop with this rubbish.

Targeted ads are another kind of problem. I don't really want to be told or suggested what I should or could buy, I can make up my own mind. I know some people don't mind them and that's fine.

In all honesty I preferred the annoying pop ups.

crispsquirrel··on IRS sends warning letters to more than 10k cryptocurrency holders
Well technically it does. Just not if you buy from coinbase where they need a lot of your personal information plus you'll be most likely buying with a debit/credit card.

If you pay someone for cryptocurrency in cash and they send to a wallet you have set up by yourself there is not really any way to prove that it's yours.
