cypress66··on What does it mean that MP3 is free?
Not him, but I use lossy because phones have small capacities and I can't be bothered to have lossless on pc + lossy on phone.
cypress66··on CIA now favors lab leak theory to explain Covid's origins
Ok. But I'm saying it's almost impossible that no one knows, as the parent comment suggests.

Edit: my original comment was not intended to be a reply to you, but to the parent.

cypress66··on CIA now favors lab leak theory to explain Covid's origins
It would be trivial for the Chinese to determine if covid 19 matches with what they were investigating in the lab, and if the people in the lab were among the first infected.
cypress66··on Steve Ballmer was an underrated CEO
Idk, I use cursor which is a proprietary commercial VS code fork and it just works. So clearly the license/OSS situation is very workable.
cypress66··on Making an atomic trampoline [video]
In nileblue he doesn't talk like this. So clearly intentional.
cypress66··on Zuckerberg claims regret on caving to White House pressure on content
I always use showdead. There's not a lot of dead comments, but I often (maybe 1 every 4) have to vouch for them.
cypress66··on Telegram founder Pavel Durov arrested at French airport
What you call moderation is also a tool dictatorships use to censor people. It goes both ways.
cypress66··on Police cannot seize property indefinitely after an arrest, federal court rules
It should be up to the legislators and justice to limit cops power, and punish them when appropriate.
cypress66··on Mpv – A free, open-source, and cross-platform media player
VLC is only praised in "normie" places. It is hated in places like anime forums, 4chan, etc.
cypress66··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
> It's pretty much always email > standard user > administrator

What does this mean?

cypress66··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
Windows is high reliability. The problem here is what's basically a third party backdoor.
cypress66··on Microsoft Account to local account conversion guide erased from Windows 11 guide
It's so far behind though. Linux still doesn't support VRR or HDR.
cypress66··on Microsoft Issues New Warning for 70% of All Windows Users
My mom's PC is plenty fast, and works flawlessly. She has an i7 4790k.

She probably wouldn't mind upgrading to windows 11, but she can't because MS decided that you must have TPM.

Windows 10 will be EOL in a year.

These companies will bs you about how eco friendly they are, but they expect you to throw a perfectly fine computer into the trash.

cypress66··on Microsoft's full-screen reminders – upgrade to Windows 11 are back
Most distros can't even recover from a shutdown while updating (windows handles it since Vista).
cypress66··on Super Mario 64's unopenable door has been opened [video]
It's a joke referencing a quote in the video.
cypress66··on Express 5.0 – Last Push
You can fix async await with express by just installing a package.
cypress66··on Bitcoin Block 840000
Gold was used as a currency for ages, and it's similar to bitcoin (limited amount with a bit of gold being mined every year)
cypress66··on The $10k BYD Seagull EV is scaring the U.S. auto industry
It should worry the EU industry more. People in the US don't buy city or compact cars. They buy bigger and more premium ones.
cypress66··on Backdoor in upstream xz/liblzma leading to SSH server compromise
If you are this deep into it, it doesn't matter.
cypress66··on LLMs use a surprisingly simple mechanism to retrieve some stored knowledge
Is it? Every user profile in every website is a page. Every single tweet is a page.
cypress66··on BYD unveils $230K supercar, $14K hatchback in same week
> having to stop every 300-400 kilometers for an hour

More like 20 minutes to charge that much in something like a model 3.

cypress66··on Stable Diffusion 3
This announcement only mentions safety. What else do you expect to talk about?
cypress66··on Gemma: New Open Models
Can you share the training loss curve?
cypress66··on Netflix: Piracy is difficult to compete against and growing rapidly
It's more expensive so they are greedier.
cypress66··on VSCode Drops Ubuntu 18.04 Support
> If you're on an os from 2018 you're clearly not really dependent on the latest versions of everything.

I'm on Windows 10 which is from 2015. I want the latest software, but an older more stable OS (not Windows 11 yet).

It's true that Windows 10 has had big updates (builds). But maybe that's the right approach?

cypress66··on Tesla sues Swedish state agency over number plate blockage
Tesla isn't demanding the postal union to ship them the plates, they are demanding to be allowed to pick up the plates by themselves.
cypress66··on Moving from AWS to Bare-Metal saved us $230k per year
Going from AWS to something like hetzner would be most of the way there probably.
cypress66··on I've resigned from my role leading the Audio team at Stability AI
That's kind of irrelevant because these AI models will exist no matter what. The difference is if anybody will be able to train one, or just giants like Sony will be able to train one because they'll deal with the licensing.
cypress66··on Is this radical redesign of GIMP possible now?
It'd be better to fork it and hire a new dev, than throw money at the devs that don't understand their own product.
cypress66··on Swedish painters trade union to stop all work with Tesla brand cars
The car I bought is from Mexico so I guess that answers the question.
