d0vs··on OpenAI's agents talked to each other through the CPU Cache
As someone who develops microVMs it doesn't really matter to me that they were asked to find a way, I really care that they found any way at all. MicroVMs aim to protect against malicious workloads and that clearly didn't work here.
d0vs··on Meta's Muse is fantastic for web scraping
FYI Muse smashes through those captchas natively without prompting.
d0vs··on The August 17 outage
GH didn't collapse so it's not impossible that they already implement these measures:

> At peak, web/API error rates were approximately 20%, while archive and raw-content downloads reached approximately 50%.

d0vs··on How far can you push the range of Wi-Fi connectivity in an ideal environment?
https://www.techmonitor.ai/technology/wifi_and_bluetooth_dis...
d0vs··on My minimal, memory-safe Go rsync steers clear of vulnerabilities
Agreed. Not a direct answer but this should be interesting: https://github.com/cyphar/filepath-securejoin
d0vs··on Show HN: React Timekeeper – Time picker based on the style of Google Keep
How would I go about using my own style?
d0vs··on System76 is moving product design and manufacturing in house
Compare the cheapest Mac ($1000) to an $800 ASUS:

https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-air

https://www.amazon.com/i5-6300HQ-keyboard-Microsoft-signatur...

The ASUS has:

- a larger screen

- a better CPU

- a better GPU

- as much memory

- more storage

d0vs··on System76 is moving product design and manufacturing in house
Apple build overpriced low-end perf laptops with high build quality, I'd rather have performance at a way lower price.
d0vs··on Google Earth Redesigned
Chrome-only and that's if there's no bug. I have the latest version of Chrome on Ubuntu but my GPU (GTX 960m, latest drivers) is blocked and the --ignore-gpu-blacklist flag doesn't work.
d0vs··on Ask HN: Mailing lists that HN readers ought to know about?
http://www.craftinginterpreters.com/
d0vs··on Cayley – An open-source graph database
Can anyone give concrete examples of datasets that are better suited for a graph database and why?
d0vs··on Ask HN: Do you still use browser bookmarks?
What's it called exactly? I can't find it.
d0vs··on Deploying Brotli for static content
I wonder who will win in the long term between Brotli and zstd. http://facebook.github.io/zstd/
d0vs··on Planck.js – JavaScript rewrite of Box2D physics library
It baffles me that all those JS physics library never provide proper docs or even an API reference and always link to the C++ Box2D manual as if it was an acceptable alternative. Always have to guess what the JS equivalent is but even then you're in for a surprise: https://github.com/shakiba/planck.js/blob/master/CHANGES.md
d0vs··on Tor in a safer language: Network team update from Amsterdam
If you're used to dynamic languages, it gives you type safety and performance for little effort.

I love Python but always wished for a simple, type-safe language; Go gives me that. It's not worse than Python IMHO.

d0vs··on Adventures in JIT compilation: Part 1 – an interpreter
You're right. This was an amazing couple of posts anyway, I hope you continue the series!
d0vs··on Adventures in JIT compilation: Part 1 – an interpreter
This looks like an AOT compiler to me, not a JIT compiler.
d0vs··on Paxos in 25 Lines
> Most languages have no line length limit

Some languages do?

d0vs··on To www or not www
I have trouble believing this to be honest. Any hard evidence?
d0vs··on Why the bounce rate of AMP pages is so high
Agreed. As a user, I couldn't care less about your bounce rate.
d0vs··on New version of Google App Engine supports all programming languages
So you can't run projects for free on Flex like you can on Standard?
d0vs··on Partial WebAssembly backend for the GNU toolchain
If we can get closer though, I suspect most people wouldn't be bothered.
d0vs··on If the Moon Were Only 1 Pixel – A tediously accurate map of the solar system
The moon is actually 2 pixels on my screen
d0vs··on Google Site Search will be completely shut down by April 1, 2018
I honestly don't think people outside the HN echo chamber care that much.
d0vs··on Getting started with vim
First of all it's far easier to learn than most people make it out to be. As for why I decided to learn vim: I grew tired of having to switch IDEs depending on the language I use and most importantly memorizing their different sets of keybindings. Now I only have to learn vim's keybindings.
d0vs··on Getting started with vim
Have you remapped Caps lock to Escape yet?
d0vs··on Announcing GVFS: Git Virtual File System
> Google's dev infra is pretty amazing and it's at least a decade ahead of anything else I've seen. Every single ex-Googler misses it quite a bit.

This may be naive but why not recreate it as an open source project?

d0vs··on Show HN: Pydb – a lightweight database with Python syntax queries, using ZeroMQ
Looks like a better shelve https://docs.python.org/3.6/library/shelve.html
d0vs··on Wine 2.0 released
iTunes, OCRing PDFs.
d0vs··on Learn TensorFlow and deep learning, without a Ph.D.
> The math is kinda light, you either seek to understand it or trust that it works and focus on the ML principles.

This is accurate and also why I dropped out pretty quickly.
