d_mcgraw··on Keeping Notes As A Developer
I've tried using Evernote and Dropbox, but could never make it work the way I wanted hence the motivation to work out keeping note in an ordered way in my notebooks.
d_mcgraw··on Keeping Notes As A Developer
Thats a rad tip! I'm totally going to start doing that.
d_mcgraw··on Keeping Notes As A Developer
Thats not a bad idea, but whats your scheme for keeping them referenced and correlated?
d_mcgraw··on Sold my dipshit company for $5m, where to invest?
Check out the book 'The Investment Answer' (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0982894708). Its a great place to start when trying to learn about investing and long term money management. It also goes in depth on how to select someone to help manage your money.
d_mcgraw··on Impossible for the HN crowd: Do nothing for 2 minutes
Anyone else notice that it kinda looks like you are staring over the ocean at a nuclear blast?

Love the site though. It really is relaxing and a neat simple idea. Hard to sit through after a 16oz red bull, but i did it!

d_mcgraw··on Red Bull and Beer Diet: Day 1
Im so pumped to hear you say that. You will like my post mortem on this experiment.
d_mcgraw··on Red Bull and Beer Diet: Day 1
I agree, check out the post. You will see reasoning contained within.
d_mcgraw··on Red Bull and Beer Diet: Day 1
Wasn't Brain the one that was always getting his plans foiled?
d_mcgraw··on Red Bull and Beer Diet: Day 1
Thanks very much. I dont think im going to stumble upon any dietary revelations either. You can live vicariously through me.
d_mcgraw··on Red Bull and Beer Diet: Day 1
I think the article explains that all. I would love for you to read it.
d_mcgraw··on Red Bull and Beer Diet: Day 1
I have a full bill of health from my doctor. As noted in the disclaimer this is in no way healthy for you, but most fad diets really aren't.
d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: Where to look to learn UX/Design
I'm reading The Design of Everyday Things right now. It is an amazingly good book. The examples are awesome. It really is changing the way I look at everything.
d_mcgraw··on Show HN: Coding noob - first weekend project
First off, great weekend project.

While Twilio would be a surefire way to do it. You can also hack up a small script that will use sms gateways to send the email, but then you would have to know the person's carrier in advance. I find this way more interesting, but not nearly as robust. You can do some interesting things when you are sending text messages through gateways.

d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: Do startups need analysts? What can this 26-year-old semi-generalist do?
I'm a programmer/analyst at a startup. It is a fun job. I'm always jumping between tasks and have a million things going on all at once. For me, the job is ~70% programming, ~25% analysis, ~5% other. That will certainly very depending on the company and responsibilities, but thats probably a good model of the work from what I've seen. If thats your cup of tea (sure is mine) then I would say this would be a great way to go. There are downfalls though; if you go the startup route that is. More then likely you will be making less then corporate and the hours may be more erratic to, but that depends on corporate culture. I would say give it a shot if your curious.
d_mcgraw··on ShoutKey - Temporary URL Shortener by jazzychad
I understood that, but rarely do people use services exactly as they are intended unless somehow forced to.
d_mcgraw··on ShoutKey - Temporary URL Shortener by jazzychad
I really like the idea, but part of your concept concerns me. Having pronounceable short urls is always a plus, but having them expire is sketchy to me. It means 1 of 2 things in my mind and maybe you can put my worries to rest. I will also preface the concerns with 'I did notice that the time is variable and user chosen'.

1 You are going to litter the web with non-active(broken) links and that sucks.

2 (more likely) As you reuse words in urls there will be links that will point to things that are in no way related to the context in which they were originally used.

d_mcgraw··on Technology + Fitness = Love
Anyone use anything else to track fitness? I'm looking at Nike+ for running. Anyone with experience using it?
d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: What are the best resources for learning Ruby/Rails
Is that really true? Most of the companies I've talked to are looking for people with Ruby/Rails experience. I've seen some looking for Python Django experience, but far less. I currently do Python dev at work. I've looked a Django, but I wasn't super impressed, but again maybe I'm just not finding the right resources for learning to work with it. Any suggestions there?
d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: Where to buy .ly domains?
I used http://www.libyanspider.com/ for my .ly purchases.
d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: Who is currently broke due to being in a startup?
Man after work every day I need that cute little bastard to play with and hang out with. He's amazing.
d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: Who is currently broke due to being in a startup?
I'm in downtown Albuquerque.
d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: Who is currently broke due to being in a startup?
I took the first job I could get out of college. I am paid, like you, 1/3 of what I should be making (according to state stats). I have a mortgage, and a puppy to take care of. I barely squeeze by, but the company would be screwed if I left. I've tried to get other jobs with no success so far. I'm starting to feel like I'm stuck not only in my current job, but in New Mexico. Sorry for the rant, but I feel where you're at twidlit.
d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: When did you last put yourself out of your comfort zone?
I think it will for the exact same reason. It is about the journey not the destination, but even if the journey is shit you have learned and grown which I believe are positive outcomes.
d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: What host do you use for Python webdev?
I've looked at that and probably will do that for dev/testing. Is it worth it to stay there and start paying after you've proven yourself or is that the mark to move on?
d_mcgraw··on Ask HN: Would you play a distributed, programmable MMO?
Second Life comes to mind, but its not exactly what you're describing here, but close being user created and all.
d_mcgraw··on Apple Refurbished Web Scraper
Very cool. I would like to see the implementation if you still have it.
