daedalbug··on What would happen if Twitter were to shut down over night?
the world would instantly become a better place, it isn't half as important as it likes to think it is
daedalbug··on Satoshi Nakamoto publishes an excerpt from his future book [pdf]
STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD CRAIG!
daedalbug··on 10 Cybersecurity Podcasts You Should Listen to in 2018
What about 'Smashing Security' and 'Darknet Diaries' ?
daedalbug··on The Brotopia Myth
What a load of nonsense. Somehow in a 4 minute read the author (Social_Justice_Tech)has managed to fit in every form of information bias known alongside unattributed graphs and a picture of THAT guy from Google.
daedalbug··on Ask HN: Why Python is good choice?
it's a good first choice; it introduces you to common concepts easily, it has a nice clear syntax and can be used in a range of paradigms (OO, FP, shell scripting).
daedalbug··on Ask HN: What's a good response to “It's fine, I've got nothing to hide online”?
"You many not have something to hide, but you have something to protect"
daedalbug··on Ask HN: I listen to music/podcasts all day at work, am I at the wrong job?
I listen to music all the time (my Spotify end-of-year stats are terrifying), but I think that's conducive to productivity rather than an impediment.

Podcasts are different however, I'm not sure I could listen to them in the same way

daedalbug··on Ask HN: Is the future of software development going to a “no code” basis?
Can you explain why the certainty of 'It’s a fact that front-end development will be deprecated in a near future' ? I'm fairly certain it's 'a possibility', rather 'a fact'
daedalbug··on Ask HN: What are some best micro web framework?
As a language its falling out of favor I think, but there's nothing simpler than Sinatra in Ruby
daedalbug··on Ask HN: What programming blogs do you read daily?
Julia Evans - https://jvns.ca/
daedalbug··on What exactly is Full Stack these days?
except we're not talking about jet engines - I was asking at what point does basic become deep, hence the next remark referring to 'years of experience' as a benchmark
daedalbug··on What exactly is Full Stack these days?
I don't think that's too bad though - I'd prefer them to clarify what they mean by 'deep' vs 'basic' understanding, but I certainly know a few developers with 3-5 years experience who could comfortably tick the box
daedalbug··on Ask HN: What do you need an Internet fridge for?
you don't
daedalbug··on Ask HN: CS and programming books of 2017
Races to suggest 'Hitchhikers Guide To Python' but then sadly realises it was from 2016
daedalbug··on Ask HN: What's the best alternative word for 'hacker'
I just say 'programmer', it's certainly easier than 'Someone burdened with inexhaustible curiosity'
daedalbug··on [dead]
point 3 is definitely the key here
daedalbug··on Ask HN: What are some of the best blogs you follow?
Julia Evan's blog is excellent - https://jvns.ca/

It's network-focussed but covers plenty of other topics. The information is presented well, in quite easy-to-digest chunks, with loads of illustrations for the more abstract points

daedalbug··on TIPS and TRICKS for Strong Passwords
absolute rubbish, just perpetuating the same nonsense that requires all those social-engineerable "I've forgotten my password" features
daedalbug··on Researcher Who Stopped WannaCry Ransomware Detained in US After Def Con
that'll be the 'rapid response' unit leaping into action right there
daedalbug··on Meritocracy hasn’t worked in Britain – it’s time for a radical rethink
pleased with the General Election result are we?
daedalbug··on Ask HN: Senior develloper is sabotaging me. What should I do?
it does sound like they're insecure and are trying to 'show you your place'. I've been in a very similar situation, with an immediate manager not being from a tech background and received pretty much the same comments.
daedalbug··on The Rise of Cryptohooliganism
"We do not quite see the engineering world split into camps over what kinds of bridges are best. Other, more mature, disciplines realize that technical design decisions require a scientific process, and have evolved internal processes for handling conflicts and disputes."

Apparently Emin Gün Sirer has never heard of the browser wars or emacs vs vim, or any of the other tribalistic divisions that have happened in the software engineering field - division and 'picking a side' are very common occurrences.
