damsta··on Ask HN: Are you tired too in this AI era?
I hate it and I know it'll get worse
damsta··on Upcoming critical PHP security release (CVE-2026-109618 / -109619)
2027 is going to be crazy
damsta··on Gemini 4 Argon
Opus 5.5 is also priced at $4/$20, but are they on the same level?
damsta··on Gemini 4 Argon
> The model launches today at an introductory price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens (with cached input tokens at 95% off).

Couldn't you just say what the price will be after the introductory period and when it'll take effect? Do they have some SKILL.md for these blog posts that requires the most important information to always be buried ten levels deep and hidden behind a login page?

damsta··on Clef: Open-source decision models, and new RL fine-tuning platform
Competition in this area is great and kudos for releasing something that we can try out today.
damsta··on ChatGPT Pro 500
People complained about burning their weekly usage in a day on Pro 200, so OpenAI's response to that is an even more expensive plan?
damsta··on Cloudflare Quick Tunnels
The website looks broken in dark mode on Firefox.
damsta··on DeepSeek launching v4.1 flash cheaper and more capable than v4 pro
> all requests to the Pro model will be routed to V4.1 Flash and billed at Flash's price

While V4.1 Flash performance and cost looks promising this auto re-routing sounds concerning

damsta··on GPT-6 Astra
I'd say it's because it's not available yet on subs
damsta··on GPT-6 Astra
From what I've seen it only made people mad, not hyped, so the person that thought it was a good idea miscalculated a bit. Now waiting for Anthropic's post about their usage promo or something similar to redirect people to them.
damsta··on GPT-6 Astra
Why release it now instead waiting those few days until it is available for everybody?
damsta··on Elevated Errors for Multiple Models
I was using Opus 5 and now I'm forced to switch to Sonnet 5 and bust the prompt cache which will eat a large percentage of my 5h usage...
damsta··on How Compaction Works in Pi
I don't like any of current solutions when it comes to compaction. I'd love to have a way to say what exactly should be summarized, because most of the time I just need to compact some noisy MCP tool calls, test runs and things like that. Just let me pick what should be summarized and keep the rest as is.
damsta··on Solid 2.0 RC: The Big <Reveal>
Solid 2 looks great! The async features are really interesting, I'll give them a try in my side projects. Congrats on the release!
damsta··on Accelerating GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast
So if Fast mode is 1.5x faster at 2x the price, will Ultrafast cost 20x as much? $100/$900 per 1M tokens?
damsta··on Gemini 3.7 Flash
> 3.7 Flash is available through the end of the year at an introductory price of $0.75/1M input tokens and $3.75/1M output tokens.

> Introductory pricing expires on December 31, 2026. Starting January 1, 2027, $1.50/1M input tokens and $7.50/1M output tokens will apply.

damsta··on uBlock Origin Is Giving Up the Fight to Keep Ads Off Facebook
Unfortunately with agents Meta can easily run hundreds of automated experiments on real browsers with each commit in the uBlock Origin's repo and each change in various filter lists to find clean workarounds and submit PRs with patches. You can try fighting this on the other side with similar approach, but why waste time and tokens, just stop using Facebook.
damsta··on DeepSeek-V4-Pro-0813 Publish
I wonder what the price is going to be after the "significant increase" they plan to introduce in the near future.
damsta··on Grok Bot
Does it have access to X API? One limitation in CC, Codex etc. is that they don't have access to X which sometimes has an answer not available via their search providers.
damsta··on Seedance 2.5
I don't think audio, image or video generation should exist. I haven't seen enough positive applications to justify the amount of harm these tools are being used to cause.
damsta··on OpenAI reduces Codex Model Context Size from 372k to 272k
Not a fan of their context compaction and I feel like 1M-token context should minimum today. Each day I see how GPT 5.5 and 5.6 struggle a bit after each compaction before they get to the full speed, sometimes focusing too much on some older steering message that made it into the compacted context.
damsta··on Codex Resets
> can't sustain these resets

If I would have my tin foil hat on I'd say they can manipulate how the subscription usage gets calculate during the week, so that these resets don't cost them much or anything. Sometimes it feels like the usage just disappears with nothing to show for it.

damsta··on Codex Resets
Are they more expensive? I think it's a clever tactic that avoids sudden increased workload, because users may "save" their resets when they need some additional work done.
damsta··on The Kimi K3 Moment
> As for the open weights? For now, Kimi K3's weights are closed, and I don't expect the situation would change.

It'll change on July 27 (based on https://www.kimi.com/blog/kimi-k3):

> The full model weights will be released by July 27, 2026

damsta··on Tw-fade: pure CSS scroll-driven edge masking
Really nice! Nice to see FF Nightly already has support that enables scroll detection.
damsta··on Claude Opus 4.8
Meh
damsta··on GitLab announces workforce reduction and end of their CREDIT values
> Where you should expect to see us evolve is in the quality, depth and pace of innovation we ship.

Yes, letting some LLMs "plan, code, review, deploy" will for sure improve quality and depth of innovation you ship.

damsta··on Anna's Archive loses $322M Spotify piracy case without a fight
Fuck Spotify
damsta··on GPT-5.4
There is extra cost for >272K:

> For models with a 1.05M context window (GPT-5.4 and GPT-5.4 pro), prompts with >272K input tokens are priced at 2x input and 1.5x output for the full session for standard, batch, and flex.

damsta··on Creators of Tailwind laid off 75% of their engineering team
Companies like Vercel, Lovable, and Stackblitz should pay salaries to each of these engineers. Their business succeeded only because Tailwind exists.
