dash-44··on Northflank Breached
Correct me if I’m wrong, but Northflank, Railway etc aren’t neoclouds. They’re PaaS providers which is quite different.
dash-44··on Backdoor in Claude Code for VS Code extension on the Cursor Marketplace
You disable extension auto updates and then manually install every so often (and only update/install when the version has been out for 3+ days).
dash-44··on Root shell on Samsung TV
It's been well known for the last 5-10 years that Samsung has degraded into one of the worst consumer device manufacturers, whether it's all this tracking, or forcing you to watch ads on the home screen of your expensive tv etc.

No idea why you'd even consider anything Samsung related.

dash-44··on Root shell on Samsung TV
Why in this world of yours is the only option Android TV?

Even with that, there are plenty of safer distros, or you can even get a cheap mini pc and throw one of the many awesome Linux distros on that have zero tracking and are far more capable/performant.

>All the popular streaming services throttle or block open devices.

This just isn't true. Have never encountered this.

dash-44··on DeepInfer: High-performance inference framework for DeepSeek models
No it doesn't. It bans:

"third-party products and services developed using DeepSeek implementations".

So gov can't use western inference of DeepSeek either.

dash-44··on Gemini 4 Argon
They're calling Argon a step change for Google, not the industry...
dash-44··on One month coding with GLM 5.3 Flash
"Setting a challenge to spend the whole of September on only one efficient open model felt like a great idea at the time. Turns out not so much in practice."

This is just such a bad opening statement, almost pure clickbait. It makes it sound like the rest of the article is going to be on how it was a mistake to go with cheap models because their performance isn't good enough etc; the same usual stuff we see when someone tries to replace a frontier model with a cheap/flash model.

But the reality is that GLM 5.3 flash if a fantastic model; very cheap/performant and really a new era for this type of model, and the blog is just about some completely unrelated mistakes in development processes. Give us our time back.

dash-44··on One month coding with GLM 5.3 Flash
GLM 5.3 flash matches Opus 4.8 in general intelligence, and somewhere in the Opus 4.7–4.8 band for coding.

There was 4.3 months between Opus 4.7 and GLM 5.3 flash. Shorten your timelines ;).

dash-44··on GitHub's new dashboard experience now the default
This also depends on the screen you're using. Older LCD screens sometimes don't show colors/contrast that are super clear on newer displays. Not saying your comment is invalid, just something I've noticed.
dash-44··on Several vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Linux kernel
I believe they call it semantic versioning (SemVer).
dash-44··on Gemini 4 Argon
This comment makes no sense. The original comment wasn't specifically to do with the average person hosting at home.

There are already: - hundreds of western providers hosting open models, including large ones such as Kimi K3 which is near Opus/Sol sizes.

- people hosting large models such as Kimi K3 at home. Check on reddit, there are people with 20x DGX Spark setups etc.

dash-44··on OpenAI Says It Will Not Release Newest A.I. Model Over Safety Concerns
Have GPT 5.6 Sol and GP6 6 Sol been nerfed due to the same resource constraints? They have seemed dumber recently.

If you signed up for a 16 core AWS server and they randomly kept changing it down to 8 cores, you'd sue them. How long until the same applies to these AI companies.

The amount of meddling they do to the harness, system prompt, model, quantization etc makes these products sometimes unbearable; you never know what you're going to get. A few more iterations of Qwen 27B and hopefully we won't have to deal with any of this malarky any more.

dash-44··on OpenAI Says It Will Not Release Newest A.I. Model Over Safety Concerns
Astra and Fable like to do this. It's like they're designed to one shot large tasks.

Opus and Sol are better for day to day dev work IMO in that they won't try to do too much.

dash-44··on Cf: The Agentic CLI for the Cloudflare API
Different use case but Claude Code CLI and GitHub Copilot CLI, both JS monstrosities, use 500MB at idle per session and it's not uncommon to have 10+ sessions across multiple IDE's. 5GB RAM gone on just an LLM harness doing nothing.

At least Codex CLI in rust uses 80-100MB which is still not great but a big improvement.

These AI companies screw you over from both sides. They make the cost of RAM skyrocket and then they build terrible software that uses all the RAM you have.
