david4096··on WebRTC Chat on IPFS
I had to wait for a long time for the offer to show up. Post issues here! https://github.com/cjb/serverless-webrtc/issues

Please do head over to https://github.com/cjb/serverless-webrtc to make issues and PRs! The most painstaking part for me is how long it takes to get the offer in the first place without a useful dialog.

Really excited about scuttlebutt, will make a future post on it, thanks!

Thanks, yes as a community we need to address the problem of ipfs.io as a centralized DNS gateway. What happens if they don't pay their domain name registration fees?

ipfs companion is worthy of mention:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ipfs-companio...

It converts ipfs.io to use your local resolver (amongst other cool things).

Yes, I second this.
david4096··on Ask HN: Why is it called a shell?
Have a source?

Yes, since the particles are point-like we should expect the force between them to grow without bound if they are very near.

I find the calculation for small distances to be unpredictable, one easy way to test it is to place two particles with small gravity and a large attractive charge. Occasionally close passes cause explosive motion, while other times it hardly overcomes gravity.

david4096··on Spotify: Labels Thought We Were No Better Than The Pirate Bay
A musician friend of mine attests to this. From the musician's perspective you are unpaid for your work; but unlike piracy your new listeners can only share their experience with other Spotify subscribers, further decreasing the likelihood they'll be paid.

Apparently an exploit in the forum software.

Consider the use case of an authentication token. I would use a watch for unlocking a phone, password manager, or laptop.

However, Bluetooth and a monochrome LCD would get the job done just fine.

david4096··on Ask HN: Why doesn't arbitrage appear to equalize the bitcoin market?
Mt. Gox premium is due to the delay and difficulties of getting USD out. This makes arbitrage difficult if not impossible.
david4096··on Primecoin: The Cryptocurrency Whose Mining is Useful
PrimeCoin searches for prime chains. For example 6 is at the center of a bitwin prime chain of length 2.

6 - 1 = 5, prime 6 + 1 = 7, prime 6 * 2 - 1 = 11, prime 6 * 2 + 1 = 13, prime

The design paper is a light and interesting read:

david4096··on Show HN: Ever wish you could save what you had just heard? Thank my 2-year-old
This is the single most important question I had. It can't be much worse than running voice memo all the time, which isn't that bad.

First, I'd like to thank you for your great work, I'm one of the many to have benefitted from it.

I decided to take journo for a spin and wrote this up in hopes you'd continue to work on it.
