Normalize making regular apps look like 80s video games, please. I've been building a couple with that look and I'll definitely explore using this to power the next ones.

They accrue points over time and it tracks daily, weekly, and all time progress. There's also a way to use points to "purchase" stuff like extra tv time, different desserts, small toys (e.g. tech decks), or other bigger things they desire (e.g. a new tennis racket)

I had a couple of old Meta Portals sitting around the house.

I always liked the hardware, but after Meta moved away from Portal, they mostly became devices collecting dust. So I turned them into a routine board for our kids.

It helps our kids stay on track without us having to repeat the same reminders over and over. And they are both pretty competitive, so nobody wants to finish their tasks second

Lol, literally launched on Monday https://agenttester.com

It's only a tarpit idea when you don't know it's a tarpit idea. I'm building a bookmarking service. I have no illusions that this will become anything more than a hobby project. Still, I love solving specific problems for myself (specifically, making consumption easier to deal with content overload).

I love this concept. I live by a popular head trail, and when I do work in the garage (on my bikes or other projects), I usually keep the door open. That simple thing led to meeting many people from around the neighborhood.

I tried to add a product (https://platformchecker.com), and initially, the process wasn't clear. The icon isn't marked as mandatory (it is) and the discount code is (it is not).

FWIW, as a hobbyist developer who never had a chance to learn React, I found HTMX really helpful to make my Flask projects more reactive without adding much complexity.

Another story worth looking at was the one of Olivetti: https://designwanted.com/brand-story-olivetti/

Snow Crash was the first thought that came to mind when I saw the title of this post

I wonder if there are any recent examples.

Binance can't operate in the US like Coinbase, that's why they have Binance US which is pretty small. FTX was setup similarly. https://coinmarketcap.com/rankings/exchanges/

For anyone interested in the topic, I'd encourage reading "Lifespan" by David A. Sinclair. As someone with little to no-knowledge about aging (other than feeling the effects of aging on myself) I found it very instructive on how our aging clock works and what are some of the ongoing studies to slow down or revert aging.

Went for a Notion look https://davidedicillo.com

Beside when I travel, I have only had 3 type of breakfast for the past ~35 years. First 20 milk and cookies (a specific type from a specific brand), then honey bunches of oats with almonds for another 13 years, and the past couple of years I switched to a different brand with less added sugars.

The rule doesn't exists anymore. Ads with a lot of text simply get penalized when it comes to distribution.

I recently built https://listlinks.co with flask + js + saasform (to manage all auth + billing) + bulma on heroku.

Oh the irony of using an Italian word to describe his goal to write simply. Italian is way more verbose than English.

He’s not a businessman. He’s a business, man.

Sadly, that's what 2020 looked for many people even outside of YC (the lucky ones who could just work from home)

I'm building a simpler newsletters reader: https://newsrack.app

After you sign up it creates an email address that you can use to sign up for the newsletters and mailing lists you want to start collecting in your newsrack. As it receives new emails, it will organize them for you by the author.

It’s interesting to see the proliferation of tools focused on tackling these business needs. This post reminded me of http://usesummit.com which allows to create financial forecasting models

I use it for my upper trapezoid. More recently I bought a fancier unit with independent electrodes, but I keep coming back to this unit because it's so much more convenient.

So far I bought 3 from Aliexpress (eventually you'll get tire of your partner stealing yours and it's a great gift idea)

A Xiaomi Mi Pocket Magic Massager which I use almost daily. Because of decades of bad posture, I often have crippling tension in my neck muscles. After I discovered acupuncture, I realized that this small tens unit could provide a similar effect more conveniently.

The post articulates this pretty well. > For us, ramen profitability was at about $50k/yr. Andrew and I are a couple, so our living expenses are cheaper (per person). We were also digital nomads, and Airbnbs in Spain are a lot cheaper than rent in San Francisco.

The biggest difference is that Nicotine that administrated via cigarettes, while social media doesn't administrate anything and the addiction is self-generated.

You sound like someone who hasn't cared about a child while trying to keep a full-time job. I bet many parents would support giving childcare/education professionals a raise after having to do the job themselves for a few months...

My first thought was that it has been rejected because it's invite-only and there's no way to use the app unless you are on a special list.

This already happens. FB employees working in London make less money than those living in the US because adjusted to the local market.
