These are insane profit margins.
Now it's on smartphones.
Apparently I don't understand exponential growth either cause I assumed a 5% difference scales linearly (as in the difference between 20% vs 21% growth rates for a given period should be the same as between 2% and 2.1%).
Silly me.
If something grows by 2% per day, vs 2.1% per day, after a year the second one is >20x bigger.
But you don't need to go to Siberia for Earth to be extremely difficult to survive in. Wherever you are, if you lack technology your chance of surviving is very low. Without clothing, housing, fire, tools it's very, very hard to survive anywhere on Earth.
The only reason life is so safe and pleasant right now on this planet is because we changed our environment to make it so.
If we were to survive on Mars, we would have to do the same. The advantage with Mars is that we wouldn't have to start from scratch.
We could debate what "success" means endlessly, but if you're a VC, your job is to put money in companies with low valuations that will eventually end up with high valuations.
Things like that don't just suddenly happen for no reason.
I often asked myself what happens when I give an app access to my photos. Can that app upload all my photos to their servers? The same question for things like calendar, address book, health data etc.
The funny thing is that all the following sentences can be true at the same time:
1. Across the whole population, fewer women than men have the biological/psychological traits needed to become software engineers.
2. Female engineers are underrepresented in Silicon Valley and face many different forms of discrimination.
3. Female engineers at Google are on average better than their male colleagues.
I'm not suggesting any of these sentences are necessarily true, just that they can be. This is not intuitive, unless you know a bit of statistics.
Everyone knows the solution to that problem is to increase the supply of housing, yet little is being done.
Maybe soon enough, $100k/yr will be the new $75k$. What then?
Some sort of A/B test where there were two versions of Ethereum, one with the fork and another one without the fork. That way we could have known for sure if forking was a good idea or not.
I always believed that brain damage cannot be reversed. If version 1 means reversing it in toddlers, maybe version 10 will do miracles for many other people. Truly amazing and congratulations to the medical team!
