Exactly. Add in tip + tax and you're not leaving without spending ~$40 for two cocktails and ~$60 for 3 cocktails. Many, if not most, people sit at bars doom-scrolling on their phone and generally are anti-social. It's just not a fun, enjoyable experience most of the time.
I remember it fondly. My family had a lower-end 486 and it couldn't run a lot of games but it ran Yoda Stories great! Loved that game as a kid. LucasArts really was a gem (loved Grim Fandango, Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Full Throttle, etc.).
WestLaw and Lexis Nexis provide this for legal search, but quite frankly, these services are subpar. It's amazing that these two companies rake in hundreds of millions but they are both slower than Google, Bing, Yandex, or any LLM service (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) while scouring a universe of text that is orders of magnitude smaller. The user experience is also terrible (you have to login and specify a client each and every time you attempt to use the service and both services log you out after a short -- in my opinion -- period of inactivity, creating friction and needless annoyance to the user). There's an opportunity there.
AOE2 is the pinnacle of the RTS genre. With the Definitive Edition released in 2019, it's still extremely popular today. In my opinion, no RTS title has surpassed AOE2 before or since in terms of gameplay (and, in my subjective opinion, graphics -- I LOVE the detailed pixel graphics much more than polygons).
Agree with this. An insurance requirement would solve this problem. It would also incentivize robust security audits by the insurance companies and the data collectors.
We have a say in how the government spends our tax dollars? This is news to me. I would prefer that much less be spent on war and military, among other things.
We have an under-incarceration problem. See the recent results from El Salvador. I don't lose a second of sleep over the cruel treatment of murderers and violent criminals.
Yes, I remember Dr. Sbaitso very, very well. I spent many hours with it as a kid and thought it was tons of fun. To be frank, Dr. Sbaitso is why I was underwhelmed when chatbots were hyped in the early 2010s. I couldn't understand why anyone would be excited about 90s tech.
The prequels were awful and Jar Jar Binks was a horrible, no good character. That said, I had no idea tripod still existed! What a blast from the past.
Yeah, I've wondered if Amazon is using Twitch's AWS fees as paper losses to lower taxes. I.e., Twitch is actually making profits but Amazon wants the AWS fees on its books so that Twitch isn't recording profits (and therefore taxes) and Amazon profits off the AWS fees.
The industry made a fortune off CDs. If memory serves, peak revenue for the music industry was in the early 2000s right when boy bands, Limp Bizkit, Britney Spears, and Eminem were the big things and Napster was about to blow things up.
Some people are indeed much better. Anyone who played sports as a kid understands this. Huge differences are immediately apparent in small children. But generally, I agree that, for most life tasks, the differences between people are not enormous. Humanity could do a much better job eliminating poverty. In the future, we may view enormous disparities in wealth as evil as we do racism today.
I agree with this comment. I wish there was an effort to improve the performance and fundamental capabilities of AOE2 specifically (bigger maps, more varied terrain, higher pop count, ability of the game engine to use multi-core processors, etc.). AOE2 really did almost everything right and it's a timeless classic.
What did Steve Jobs actually make other than hype? He wasn't an engineer and wasn't an inventor. He was a salesman (a great one!) but a salesman at the end of the day.
Deleted my account around them. I've just valued privacy more as I've aged. I don't want to "connect" with people I have no interest in connecting with.
