ddispaltro··on Electric cars produce less brake dust pollution than combustion-engine cars
My understanding is a model X is 20% heavier than a similar size mid-range suv like a telluride, which I would consider the same size SUV.

The Model X's curb weight ranges from 5,148 lbs to 5,531 lbs, while the Telluride's curb weight falls between 4,112 lbs and 4,482 lbs.

yeah they do counting by 5's counting by 2s, etc. So how many 5s in 20, they say four, yay!
ddispaltro··on Brex layoffs
I mean the feds goal is to raise unemployment at this point (to slow down inflation) so in that sense this the fear of a recession is in fact creating a recession?

Goodcover | REMOTE (PST, and NZDT) | Senior Software Engineer | SF, CA | FULL-TIME | https://www.goodcover.com

Goodcover is building an insurer with the radical idea: We give unused premium back to the customer. We are starting in California with Renters insurance. We are looking to expand engineering and will be launching more states this year.

We are looking for someone senior who can hit the ground running. We are a pragmatic functional shop, who develops entirely in Scala, including the frontend (Scalajs).

Email me if you’re interested. Dan AT goodcover dot com I’d love to hear from you! You can check out everything here, https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/Goodcover

ddispaltro··on Mass layoffs reported after Starsky Robotics fails to find buyer, investors

ddispaltro··on Launch HN: Goodcover (YC S17) – Cooperative renters insurance for half the price
Thank you! Probably the most outsized risk is liability, basically if you're sued for something related to the property (had a party and someone broke their leg) your insurance company will defend you up to your liability limit.

Edit: Also keep in mind our renter's insurance (and most others) covers you wherever you are, so if your laptop is stolen out of a coffee shop, it's covered. Also if there's a fire in your building and your stuff is not damaged but you have to move out, renters insurance covers additional living expenses.

ddispaltro··on Launch HN: Goodcover (YC S17) – Cooperative renters insurance for half the price
Thanks, we're working on it!
ddispaltro··on Launch HN: Goodcover (YC S17) – Cooperative renters insurance for half the price
Yeah big fan of it, warts and all!
ddispaltro··on Launch HN: Goodcover (YC S17) – Cooperative renters insurance for half the price
Thanks we worked hard on the pricing! We can pay because 1) regulation demands that we do, aka it's the law. 2) we have capital partners with billions of dollars in claims paying capital.

Also we can cancel your lemonade policy on your behalf, and you'll get a pro-rated refund! The same applies to us if you cancel, too.

ddispaltro··on No engineer has ever sued because of constructive post-interview feedback
This reminds of restaurants throwing out food because the risk of giving it away is too great, but as far as I know no one has ever gotten in trouble because of it.
ddispaltro··on Show HN: Cascadia Code, a Font for Windows Terminal and VSCode
I completely agree, the only monospaced font I've used for the last 5+ years. I am however, giving this one a full go.

I hate to admit that I just realized the hard -> firm -> soft ware analogy.
ddispaltro··on Show HN: Software to give insurance advice like an agent would
I would love any such integration. But coverage-wise I think it's easier to do a simple upload at the moment.

ddispaltro··on Show HN: Software to give insurance advice like an agent would

ddispaltro··on Show HN: Software to give insurance advice like an agent would
Liability, which is basically protection from lawsuits (slipping and falling)
ddispaltro··on Show HN: Software to give insurance advice like an agent would
Was the website not clear or just this post? Yeah, great feedback. Property is probably the most general term, but technically it is property and casualty (liability).
ddispaltro··on Show HN: Software to give insurance advice like an agent would
Dan at Goodcover.

The later. It's a factor for insurance premiums, because being in an urban landscape vs a wooded area has a massively different fire risk.
