deadnomore··on YC's Garry Tan uses AI agents so much, he spends up to $200K a year on tokens
Evaluation loops do this easily. You have to run hundreds of reasoning jobs in parallel and very quickly you can torch thousands of dollars.
deadnomore··on GPT-Rosalind-6 System Card Addendum
Also why are cards hundreds of pages long? Seems like a broken metaphor.
deadnomore··on GPT-Rosalind-6 System Card Addendum
The phrase system card is so frustrating because it’s using the word card like it’s a metaphor for something but then abuses it. A card is supposed to be small and concise. This has many, many pages and is an “addendum”.
deadnomore··on What is a light-day? The milestone Voyager 1 is closing in on
I would prefer they just maintain it as long as possible and maybe deploy a proxy for earth that trails behind it indefinitely once it’s finally out of range. Let’s set an unbreakable record.

Means testing for malware
deadnomore··on Malware uses LLMs to rank victims by how much they're worth
My router got hacked the other month (left web interface open to internet) after being exposed to the internet and the persistence left behind was overly commented LLM artifacts. I caught it in like 5 minutes so they weren’t able to do much but it was eye opening how much more basic practices like firewalls are not something that can be ignored even if you update your firmware frequently.
deadnomore··on Ex-Meta Researcher Torrented Pirated Books, Deleted It 'Due to Litigation'
It's based on means testing.
deadnomore··on My favourite PowerMac is a Nintendo Wii
Yeah I think you are right, I should say that some of that code was ported and still survives today in 26 uses some of the same APIs and naming, but isn’t necessarily the same code from classic Mac OS. One example is RegisterEventHotKey.

Modern macOS still has classic Mac OS code in it dating as far back, and has added Objective C and Swift abstractions on top.

deadnomore··on AI isn't replacing SREs, it's deskilling them
When I worked at Google SREs only handled legacy products that were maintained but not in active development. SRE was its own vertical separate from SWE and they would only take on maintenance of a new service or product if SWE could prove to them it was stable.
deadnomore··on Polymarket Halted International Trading After Hackers Drained Accounts
“Trading” is quite the euphemism
deadnomore··on Alleged Chinese spy had 'close relationship' with Nvidia boss Jensen Huang
China adds another dash to their South China Sea claim every other year it seems
deadnomore··on Grace Blackwell needs a new scheduler: 27% more usable GPUs from the same racks
You are abusing big O which is worst case time complexity scaling. If I simplify your notation, then you just wrote O(1)
deadnomore··on Claude Code regularly sends each background agent’s transcript to its model
100 review cycles sounds like a lot of arbitrary churn, I can get most models to review and endlessly find things to “improve”
deadnomore··on We are all living inside of an obscure sci-fi film from 1970
Epigenetics affect intelligence and could be considered nurture
deadnomore··on US designates helium as a critical material
Also tear down the ballroom, arch, Kennedy/Trump center, helipad, and much more to make Trump invisible and remove his legacy fully.
deadnomore··on We are all living inside of an obscure sci-fi film from 1970
That’s precisely what I’m referencing

My only gripe with Idiocracy is the idea that stupid people make stupid children. I know plenty of smart people who have come from brain dead parents.
deadnomore··on What’s getting pwned right now
This is survivor bias because bad guys that suck are ignored as "noise". There is a ton of very low-tech outdated vulnerability scanning going on that is not at all current.
deadnomore··on Tell HN: I unknowingly broke the PHP RCE embargo. I am sorry.
This is definitionally humble bragging. First of all the apology is in bad faith because there is nothing to apologize for. We are all giving the discovered CVEs attention (the brag component) under the guise of an apology (the humble component). I am being downvoted by well meaning, people pleasers that don't mind if they waste our time and attention doing it. Sounds great.

what about the second rule of fight club?
deadnomore··on Tesla Roadster
What do you think I should be charging?
deadnomore··on Tesla Roadster
That wasn't what was demonstrated, so therefore it doesn't exist. With the past dishonest publicity stunts done before, Tesla has earned this extra level of cynicism.
deadnomore··on Tesla Roadster
To parrot other people’s claims I would have needed to read them first. So this is my own well informed speculation. I have worked with CO2 thrust and remote controlled cars in my hobby pursuits. This is the simplest way to achieve what was demonstrated.
deadnomore··on Tesla Roadster
It’s a CO2 canister with no battery or motors on wheels. What was incredible again?
deadnomore··on Tesla Roadster
It’s a remote controlled CO2 canister on wheels with a skin that looks like a car. It’s a stupid publicity “stunt”. Har har Elon.
deadnomore··on AdFection: Targeted ads turned into a pipeline for zero-click mercenary spyware
I’m going to save this joke for parties. Damn you a funny guy.
