I'm a fairly terrible student and 8 years of school wasn't gonna happen. I can't stand blood/body parts. Even if I got through school I don't think I could stomach a clinical position.
If you have no experience with databases and are just starting out programming, PG is going to steepen the learning curve substantially.
For example today I was writing tests for a python application I'm working on that uses SQLite. SQLite is the only option I have for this program as I have literally no way to setup a client server db in it's environment.
I had the tests all configured to write to the same test db file. The program I wrote the tests for had no issues with locking because it doesn't run anything concurrently.
However, when I did the same in my test suite, they ran in parallel, which caused my tests to hang. Of course, I figured this out quickly and made the tests write to their own individual DB. This is a really small program, so cleaning up afterwards is no big deal. (I could also just use an in memory db instance instead of even dealing with files). But, for a program with a LOT of tests, I could see this being an issue.
Anyway, I dismissed EA because I dismiss basically all forms of utilitarian ethics. When you try to use math and statistics to form your entire moral basis, you can kinda justify anything you want, and get to some weird contradictory judgements as well.
The internet and digital cameras being available to everyone was a mistake, when I come to power I'm just outright banning any transmission or storage of any photos of naked human bodies with the exception of medical reference pics. Or I'll just ban cellphones and home computers from civillian use entirely.
EDIT: I probably wouldn't ban the internet or home computers, but I'd at least completely ban porn, and use a tool like OPs to enforce such a ban with extreme prejudice. Anyone hosting or running a site with such content would face years of hard labor
However, not all drugs are poisonous in the same way alchohol is. Caffeine is a drug and in moderate quantities is probably pretty good for you. Weed is probably far less toxic than booze if used in small amounts by adults that don't have certain genetic markers for schizophrenia. Mushrooms aren't toxic at all. There are tons of psychoactive drugs used for medicine and fun that arguably cause more harm than good.
Anyway, people have a natural impulse to alter their consciousness, be it through extremely harmful ways like booze and coke, or through less harmful ways like mushrooms or meditation. I don't see it ending anytime soon.
