deeg··on Peter Thiel, the tech oligarch who believes in the Antichrist
Ask your favorite LLM about the Kent State shooting. While you're there, ask about the Robert Kennedy assasination.
deeg··on Tesla Roadster
I don't need a robotaxi because I'm taking the hyperloop everywhere
deeg··on Trump promises $5k payout to U.S. adults if Republicans win election
The insane SCOTUS ruled that the president could not be held accountable for illegal acts as long as it was deemed official acts of the US.
deeg··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
I think it's simpler. He hates the same people they hate and he's willing to ignore the constitution to bring pain to those people. As long as that's true they'll put up with the corruption.
deeg··on An Engineer's Old Cooking Trick Is Going Viral, Divides the Internet
> Steps that don't repeat the quantities, making me scroll back and forth between the step and the quantity list.

Julia Child's cookbook has the recipe in two columns, one for ingredients and the other for directions. As soon as I saw it I wondered why every cookbook doesn't do something similar.

deeg··on The lost civic life of movie rental stores
This has been going on for a while, hasn't it? Radio shows, and then the TV. People could begin to entertain themselves without going out. My grandfather talks about how his father and mother went out dancing every week. It's probably an exaggeration brought on by fading memories but we don't to seem to have that as much any more.
deeg··on Apple to increase spend with Broadcom to produce billions more U.S. chips
The tariffs haven't made any difference in the trade deficit. There was a large peak just before the tariffs went into effect but since then the deficit has been largely the same as it was before the tariffs.

deeg··on SpaceX's newest Starmind will make earth data centers obsolete
If I had any trust in Musk-run companies then I would agree with you but I think its closer to the hyperloop than reality.
deeg··on Mullvad founder gave millions to extremist far right party
I can't speak for Europe but in the US crime has been on a downward slope since the 90s, all while the percentage of immigrants in the US has gone up.

A few studies have shown that immigrants have a lower incidence of crime, especially undocumented ones. I don't know of any reputable studies (in the US) that show otherwise.

deeg··on Ebola Outbreak Now Third Largest Recorded and "Spreading Rapidly"
I think you're right. People have been fooled into thinking he's a populist. He uses some populist trappings but look, for example, what he's done about Epstein: he's running interference for billionaires, contradicting what he promised to do. His bombing of Iran is not populist, either.
deeg··on Green card seekers must leave U.S. to apply, Trump administration says
It's not an ego problem. It's a racial one.
deeg··on The blame game: The Trump coalition is fracturing as Iran operation stalls
The above reply explains how Maga will carry on even if new Trump/Epstein news comes out. They'll do a what-about by pulling in some liberal involved with Epstein and then ignore it by focusing on something completely different, usually something based on Trump lies.
deeg··on The blame game: The Trump coalition is fracturing as Iran operation stalls
I think most of his followers would call it fake news or just ignore it
deeg··on The blame game: The Trump coalition is fracturing as Iran operation stalls
This is where I'm at. It's a cult and trumps believers will follow him to the kool aid. There's already quite a bit of proof that Trump had a relationship with Epstein and it hasn't made much of a difference.
deeg··on Palantir employees are starting to wonder if they're the bad guys
While I believe it's good that we call it out, there will always be enough people willing to do evil for money. It'll have to be shut down from the outside and that's where our focus should be.
deeg··on If America's so rich, how'd it get so sad?
If it was COVID, though, wouldn't we expect to see the same thing in other countries?
deeg··on Crypto Billionaire Justin Sun Accuses World Liberty of 'Criminal Extortion'
These guys know that you can't accuse trump. He'll consider it disloyal and ignore you at best. By praising Trump he's hoping that Trump will step in and "fix" it, which will likely involve Sun getting a cut somehow.
deeg··on PM Carney declares U.S. ties now a 'weakness' in address to Canadians
I've done all of those and while I think they are important i believe it's most important to let politicians know, otherwise they rely too much on money.
deeg··on PM Carney declares U.S. ties now a 'weakness' in address to Canadians
I'm hoping it was sarcasm but these days you never know.
deeg··on PM Carney declares U.S. ties now a 'weakness' in address to Canadians
And that some of us are trying to change the situation. My reps have heard from me multiple times.
deeg··on MAGA Indians Went All in on Trump. Many Right-Wingers Can't Stand Them
> Some tell WIRED the vitriol is making them feel duped by the president and fearful that the hateful rhetoric will become a mainstay for the party.

I'm sorry, but what? How could any of this be a surprise? Sometimes I don't understand people.

deeg··on Trump's push to cut interest rates has echoes of 'banana republic', says Yellen
Maybe they just needs new batteries
deeg··on After Criticizing Pope, Trump Posts Image of Himself as a Jesus-Like Figure
They were ok with him bragging about grabbing women by the pussy but a picture of him as jesus is too far
deeg··on I went to America's worst national parks so you don't have to
Agreed. I've been to zion many times and the rangers have never been anything but helpful. A while back a ranger recommended a hike with few people and now I do it every visit.

It is crowded, which is a bummer, but still a great experience.

deeg··on Impeaching Donald J. Trump for High Crimes and Misdemeanors [pdf]
I'm all in favor of the impeachment but I worry that it makes it more likely that he wants to nuke Iran. If he's going down he'll take everyone with him. Hopefully the people around him are enough afraid of Nuremberg 2 that they stop him.
deeg··on 10 Years Ago, Trump Promised to Eliminate the National Debt. It Has Doubled
Anyone who is frustrated with HN comments and moderation just need to read the Reason comment section to see how good it is here.
deeg··on Marc Andreessen is wrong about introspection
I also think being a billionaire warps one's world view. Almost everybody around a billionaire sucks up to them just to get a sip from the firehose of their wealth. Its gotta be hard to stay grounded.
deeg··on F-15E jet shot down over Iran
Supporting an illegal war would be a funny way to support democracy. Or maybe they believe in democracies that ignore their constitution.
deeg··on U.S. stocks are set to deliver their worst quarter in nearly four years
Agreed. As soon as I see someone pull out TDS I know nothing of substance will follow.
deeg··on How Reverse Game Theory Could Solve the Housing Shortage
I'm very progressive in some ways but I do think progressives make this particular problem worse, often with good intentions. Both sides are equally NIMBY but liberals also have:

- More environmental regulations that can be used by NIMBY.

- Attempts to solve the using various forms of rent control, which make it worse.

- Related: conservatives favor less regulation, which leads to more construction.

- Liberals hate for (or at least distrust of) landlords. Some of this is well-deserved but I've seen liberals oppose good policies because it will "help landlords".

Lastly, home owners--including liberals--like to see the value of their property go up and tend to favor policies that make it so. It would be nice if we could get people to stop looking at their homes as financial investments.
