dented42··on The Contract on America
The idea that the point of government is to somehow make a profit seems absurd to me. Any money the government makes is by definition money wasted.
dented42··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
By functional do you actually mean impossible to use?
dented42··on Apple wants to train AI on your private personal data
I don’t think that counts as an automatic opt-in, given that it’s presented to the user directly during the setup process.
dented42··on Ganon's Mysterious Origins (Revisited)
I’m so glad they got rid of the moon. The new Gerudo emblem is so much cooler looking.
dented42··on LLMs as a Cognitive Virus
> They weren’t trying to solve aging or bring everyone to the highest standard of living, they didn’t care to connect the world, explore it, and find others.

What are you talking about? Those are absolutely issues that are being worked on right here, right now. This framing is obviously false.

dented42··on Inception-style curved map for turn-by-turn directions
It’s a cute idea but I found it to be exceedingly unpleasant.
dented42··on Does the Sumerian King List Align with Paleoclimate Events?
Who cares if it’s ludicrous? It’s a fun idea!
dented42··on A Friendly Introduction to Racket
Given that a lot of people use it in the wild I’m not sure where you’re getting that from.
dented42··on A Friendly Introduction to Racket
It used to be the official logo. The project was called PLT Scheme at the time.
dented42··on A Friendly Introduction to Racket
C, python, java, Fortran, ruby, Common Lisp, Haskell, go, zig (I think), forth, swift, cobol, pretty much any language that doesn’t directly descent from Scheme.
dented42··on A Friendly Introduction to Racket
> Wtf kind of intro to a programming language doesn’t include syntax rules?

Given that most languages don’t have syntax rules or anything like it, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that most language introductions/overviews/tutorials don’t mention it.

dented42··on Hister – A private, full content search index that you control
What’s the safari story look like right now?
dented42··on Abstracting Effects with Continuations
I think you’re missing the point…
dented42··on Why write code in 2026
I feel like this question doesn’t need a blog post to answer.

Why write code in 2026? Because it’s fun.

dented42··on Maybe Anthropic and OpenAI Are Not the Future of Artificial Intelligence
It’s difficult to interpret his position as being in good faith given the organisation that controls and represents.
dented42··on Optimizing [sqlx:test] rebuild time
Gods I feel old…
dented42··on Spoiling Linux Kernel with "sanctioned" code
I’m gonna hazard a guess and say that I don’t think the author has any troops anywhere, let alone in Ukraine.
dented42··on macOS Container Machines
Those issues could have been fixed…
dented42··on Tar Files Created on macOS Display Errors When Extracting on Linux (2024)
So it sounds like you don’t get the exact version you want because metadata is thrown away.
dented42··on Spirit Airlines Is Winding Down All Operations
I think the law is wrong…
dented42··on GitHub Stacked PRs
I definitely miss Darcs. I still use it very occasionally, but only with very small repos.
dented42··on Herbie: Automatically improve imprecise floating point formulas
Did you read what this does? Because I get the feeling you didn’t…

This isn’t a library, you don’t include in your application, and it doesn’t try to replace an understanding of floating point issues on the programmers part.

dented42··on LFortran compiles fpm
I guess when you’ve been calling it that before everyone else you’re allowed. Sort of how Common Lisp calls threads ‘processes’.
dented42··on From Noise to Image – interactive guide to diffusion
Ha, I was going to say the exact opposite. My first thought was that the website was broken.
dented42··on The Om Programming Language
To be fair, the examples are extremely easy to overlook. They are also, to put it delicately, not the most helpful.
dented42··on I found a vulnerability. they found a lawyer
That feels fundamentally broken. How can you expect an organisation to respond appropriately if you don’t provide them any kind of proof?
dented42··on HackMyClaw
Well my first testing of the waters was classified as a misdirected love letter.
dented42··on TextMaze
It looks like there’s a download link that contains the source code. Presumably you untar it, follow any necessary build instructions, and then run it.
dented42··on Dissecting a C64 Autoboot Program
I love to see modern analysis of these machine!
dented42··on Logos Language Guide: Compile English to Rust
Ah. So we’re recreating COBOL in 2026 I see.
