derr1··on The Beauty of Roundabouts
The UK has an over-reliance on roundabouts for junctions with motorways and large roads. They are also missing out on Turbo roundabouts, which are super cool and very common in the Netherlands.
derr1··on Train sim created by just one person is being called the best ever made
This game is fantastic, it seems that Japanese train arcade / sims are having a renaissance at the moment.

It works brilliantly with the Zuiki Mascon controller.

derr1··on Train sim created by just one person is being called the best ever made
That's a good thing.
derr1··on Rise of the Triforce
That's correct, last time I was there they had those games.

Zenius: https://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/arcade.php?id=2701#games has a list of the games, please bare in mind that this is a community driven database.

derr1··on Rise of the Triforce
There's Sega Rally 2 and Dirt Dash which both have motion cabinets.
derr1··on The history of Casio watches
You could always put it on a bracelet
derr1··on Toronto’s network of pedestrian tunnels
Sapporo's one stretches for a good mile in a straight line. Quite convenient when going from the entertainment district to the train station with a suitcase in heavy snow.
derr1··on Japan's Creepiest Station
Exit 8 game is great, there is also a game called Platform 8 which is a similar thing, but in a train.

There is also an Exit 8 movie releasing in a few days.

derr1··on Citybound: City building game, microscopic models to vividly simulate organism
This project has been dead for 5 years sadly.
derr1··on Porn site traffic plummets as UK age verification rules enforced
Just means more VPNs are being used to bypass this stupid piece of legislation.
derr1··on Tokyo's retro shotengai arcades are falling victim to gentrification
Agreed, not sure what's the issue with it.
derr1··on The Tokyo capsule tower that gave pod-living penthouse chic
Shame that this beautiful building got knocked down!
derr1··on Tokyo's retro shotengai arcades are falling victim to gentrification
I believe this figure is for a 1R, which is a studio, averaged across all 23 wards.

I got my data from: https://resources.realestate.co.jp/rent/what-is-the-average-...

derr1··on Tokyo's retro shotengai arcades are falling victim to gentrification
I think the average rent is about $600 in a 'central' location. Any other big city in the world would be at least 3x the price, insane.
derr1··on The magic of through running
Through running in Tokyo is next level. You can catch a train from the airport, which then turns into a subway, then later on it becomes a train again.
derr1··on Why hasn't commercial air travel gotten any faster since the 1960s? (2009)
My bad. My brain somehow joined the parent conversation above and thought you said Sydney to Canberra!
derr1··on Station of despair: What to do if you get stuck at end of Tokyo Chuo Rapid Line
Can always hang out at Big Echo if they're open until the early hours. Most I know are usually open until 5am!
derr1··on Station of despair: What to do if you get stuck at end of Tokyo Chuo Rapid Line
No ubers in Japan.

Well that's a lie. There is uber, but it only calls regular taxis. Taxis are very expensive in Japan.

derr1··on Station of despair: What to do if you get stuck at end of Tokyo Chuo Rapid Line
They do a lot of nighttime maintenance work. It's very difficult to shut down train lines in the daytime considering the massive ridership
derr1··on Station of despair: What to do if you get stuck at end of Tokyo Chuo Rapid Line
Lots of public bathrooms don't have hand dryers for some reason. So I assume they don't want wet hands?

Although even in toilets with hand dryers, I've seen many Japanese not dry their hands after washing!

derr1··on Why hasn't commercial air travel gotten any faster since the 1960s? (2009)
It takes 8hrs to do a 300km journey?

Google says the train is only 4hrs!

derr1··on Working from home is here to stay
I interviewed for a UK company that said 5 days in-office was a hard requirement. I politely declined and the interview ended shortly thereafter!

Seems like a massive time waste for no benefit. I go to the office 1-2x a week and that's enough for me to meet my team members and collaborate. But any more than that is too much!

derr1··on What we get wrong about athleticism
Yes
derr1··on Can foreigners live in Kofu, a small Japanese town? [video]
3 months unless you get permission
derr1··on Man trapped inside driverless car as it spins in circles
Knew I wouldn't have to scroll far to find the link to this video.

I'm genuinely worried for the future if we keep going down this path. And all the hard work by urbanists will be undone.

NJB radicalised me, in the best way possible.

derr1··on Hokusai's five ghoulish prints for the series Hyaku Monogatari (ca. 1830)
I picked up a few in Tokyo, nice quality, cool prints!
derr1··on M4 MacBook Pro
You don't need to use AppStore, unless of course you want to use apple software.

Pretty much all the software I use is from brew.
