That CEO (Musk or anyone else) would need a pretty solid set of reasons for doing so. And vague talk of "privacy concerns" isn't a solid reason. Evidence rather than arguments. But, then again, facts don't seem to matter to some people any more.

You'd have to ask the developer; I just use Mataroa. Somehow, though, I get that API would push the boundaries of the minimalist philosophy behind the service.

Why do you care about what companies do with their money? Are there better options? I'm sure there are. But it's no concern of mine or yours. Unless, of course, you're doing market research for a competitor ...

What's next? Implanting RFID chips in employees to track them? Maybe I shouldn't give Dell's management any ideas ...

Surprised no one has suggested Emacs + org-mode yet. Not that I am -- I use QOwnNotes.

> Is there a specific reason such a feature doesn't exist

Maybe no one has, or not many people have, asked for it? And I'm not sure what, if any resources YC would be willing to devote to adding something like that.

"Making kin with AI at the end of the world"

What? Not Jack in the Box???

While the tone is (overly) snarky, it does make a few good points.

While an old guitar is all I can afford, I definitely can't afford any of those old guitars :-)

As someone pointed out in another thread, Y Combinator probably doesn't put a lot of resources (money or human) into HN, so I doubt this a high priority. If it's a priority at all.

Something to lighten the mood: a look at divining the future with cheese. Really!

> All After School Satan Clubs … emphasize a scientific, rationalist, non-superstitious world view

And the people protesting the club can't have that, can they?

Nice release notes, though I could do without all the quotation marks used for emphasis.

My (admittedly lame) homage to /dev/null

The shell scripts used by the people I know are pretty simple, encapsulating the string of pandoc commands and pointing to an HTML template. Nothing fancy -- just a convenience when running a tool that they don't use very often.

There definitely are more than a few people who hand code the HTML for their sites. Often, it's people who need something simple -- no scripting, no database back end, none of that stuff. Just HTML and maybe some simple CSS.

I know a couple of people who build their (infrequently updated) sites using Markdown, pandoc, a custom HTML template, and a simple shell script.

I haven't been in the office for over two years. I don't miss it one bit. I'm in constant contact (maybe too constant at times) with the teams I work with via email, Teams chats, video calls, and all of that sort of thing.

Being remote works for me. It works for many people. If it doesn't for you, then that's the way it is.

Probably because the attackers can. Sometimes people don't need a deep reason for doing anything. They just want to watch bits of the web burn.

Other than saying it's going to be a weird and wild ride, I'm holding back on any specific predictions mainly because my crystal ball has never been right in the past!

I get the impression that a dark mode/dark theme isn't a priority for YC, even though it seems to be a priority for more than a few users of HN. I doubt YC puts a ton of resources into this site, which could be another reason a dark mode/theme is taking a long time to appear.

Try sending them an invoice for what you should have been paid for the last 4.5 years and see how quickly they take you off the books.

On the other hand, this film is based on a well-known and widely-read novel that's had two adaptations already. For a lot of people, there are going to be no surprises. The trailer is just a visual treat.

I'm sure there is. Probably more than one way. But why would someone want to code using their phone? As someone once pointed out, just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Until it gets really complex when something at one end fails. I'll stick to using keys, thanks.

I doubt she's read much beyond the Fox News website ...

You could be a little more polite ...

Weren't there rumors of the Soviets trying to do something like this back in the 1970s? An acquaintance who grew up in those days occasionally jokes about how a couple of particularly bad winters were caused by those experiments ...

Seems like a false equivalence. As another commenter pointed out, it's more likely your account was suspended because of the number of failed login attempts.
