devopsproject··on Today is the last chance to comment on the proposal to kill net neutrality
net neutrality ensures you can get to youtube\twitter\reddit\facebook without the ISP charging you more or throttling sites. It has nothing to to with free speech or altering the policies of individual sites.

Think of it like water. Your water company doesn't care if you are flushing the toilet or taking a shower. They just give you water and charge a rate. The internet works this way now and we want to keep it that way.

Opposing net nutrality means you will end up with this: http://www.wordstream.com/images/what-is-net-neutrality-isp-...

They are going to create a "slow lane" and charge you more to use it.

devopsproject··on Treating performance as a product: The technical story of Asana’s rewrite
I've dealt with this in the past and am dealing with it again with a very simple trello board.

"What is the status of issue X?"

"What is the IssueID?"

"I didn't create one"

"Create an new entry in the tracker and we can all track progress of issue X"

Repeat as many times as necessary.

edit: I also try to create a trigger or other automatic action in the tool. For example, our issue tracker updates the release notes when items are modified or marked as completed. If you can get people to use the triggered tool it will create an incentive.

Attacking the media seems to be really popular these days. What is Martin afraid of?

devopsproject··on Android Oreo

or

or

he wants to use android pay\netflix\other apps that detect root

or

etc.

There are many reasons.

devopsproject··on Ask HN: If you were a coder who successfully changed careers, what do you do now?
Something like that. The link above has some more info but the key is that it only works because there are still tons of people not pursuing FIRE (Financial Independence / Retire Early) and you reap the rewards of their work while you have retired early.
devopsproject··on Ask HN: If you were a coder who successfully changed careers, what do you do now?
The biggest "aha" moment for me was realizing that everyone out there busting their asses and burning out to "increase shareholder value" were making me rich.

We all start from zero. If a person can't be knowledgeable after a bit of rigor, then no one can be trusted in any subject and we can see how everything will become "fake news" and "alterntative facts"

devopsproject··on The Curious Comeback of the Dreaded QR Code
* data density (up to 100 times more than barcodes)

* built in error correction (partially marred qr codes can still be used)

* skinable\customizable (embed your logo, change colors, etc )

* 360 degree scanning capability

Barcodes still have their place but the QR code does have some unique properties

devopsproject··on Ask HN: What's a side project you built to make money that hasn't?
> I am getting well when the world says that cannot be done

No one is saying this. The "Health and Wellness" industry is booming

> I am convinced that part of what is wrong with modern medicine is that money gets made off of treatment, not off of positive health outcomes

Crazy charlatans want treatment, preferably expensive and\or ongoing

> I'm a woman ... I don't know how to do business ... I'm very eye catching

I'd start by scrubbing your profiles. The first thing I read about you was about being homeless, peeing on a tree, and unicorn farts. Maybe it is satire but you should make it easy for the people doing business with you sort fact from fiction.

devopsproject··on Ask HN: What's a side project you built to make money that hasn't?
you named it after something a developer would use (kool name, missing letters, ending in .io) instead of something a plumber or coach would use (catchy ending in .com)
devopsproject··on Ask HN: What's a side project you built to make money that hasn't?
my inlaws would never be able to type in or remember "kronikl.io". They would go to "cranikal.com" and their browser would be infected by malware and their computer would die and I would get a call in the middle of the night.
devopsproject··on Tesla Model 3 Hits Production
There was an article recently where some higher ups talked about the engineering. They described focusing work on the factory itself instead of the product with the idea being that every time you improve or fix the factory, you gain many upsides in the final output.

Can't find the article but I was an interesting read

You learned about "value"

They had a difficult problem (from their perspective) and they saw you easily solve it. This changed the "value" of your work in their minds.
