didntknowyou··on YC's Garry Tan uses AI agents so much, he spends up to $200K a year on tokens
so if he hired a PA instead would he have been more productive?
didntknowyou··on A 'bananas' order for 5000 obscure book titles fuels suspicion
yea have seen many books just recycled because of lack of space. scanning would at least preserve them before their ultimate fate
didntknowyou··on New Zealand lost its music media, and what we're building to replace it
it was locked down harder than the rest of the country, yes it’s a fact. he wasn’t looking for sympathy idk why you needed to overreact over and invalidate his personal experience
didntknowyou··on New Zealand lost its music media, and what we're building to replace it
it’s cool but really no need to put someone down for trying things. also welly is not the sole place for gigs.
didntknowyou··on LLMs reward expertise
same thing as people just entering a question prompt and copying and pasting the response as gospel. e.g. politicians using it to write speeches, or lawyers for testimonials.

the output is programmed to look correct so unless you have some sort of background you won't actually know what errors to look for.

didntknowyou··on Situational Awareness and the Impending Stock Market Volatility
cathy’s ARK was also a hot genius moment in a bull market, now it’s another average option
didntknowyou··on Situational Awareness and the Impending Stock Market Volatility
hindsight is easy. imagine apple and amazon stock holders thinking the same and selling when stock went up 100% after ipo
didntknowyou··on UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions
nothing wrong, but did we really need ticket prices to go from 100 to 1000 if they weren't struggling financially?
didntknowyou··on UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions
and part of the proposal is to get Fifa to borrow and take on debt lol it's peak capitalism
didntknowyou··on Iran Has Figured Out How to Overwhelm U.S. Air Defenses
it's kinda hillarious how peace deals are now just temporary measures just to allow usa to reload their arsenals
didntknowyou··on Why haven't organoids solved all of drug discovery?
prob because biology cannot simply be refactored down into parts like code, and their sum is greater than it's parts.
didntknowyou··on LARP – Revenue infrastructure for serious founders
well the point is value is not being created. the stock market is at an ATH, by all metrics productibity has increased, but ask anyone on the ground- the mood is not as optimisitic as the financial instruments say
didntknowyou··on LARP – Revenue infrastructure for serious founders
i thought it was a prank website but then realise this was real
didntknowyou··on Who manages the agents?
i think the doomsday scenario is more likely from someone giving AI access to crucial systems and it accidentally making critical mistakes, rather than it outsmarting the system
didntknowyou··on Nvidia, CoreWeave, and Nebius: Inside the Circular Financing of the GPU Boom
anyone can isolate one number to fit their bias. if you look at the wider financing in the industry and the context of multiple AI deals in the billions without any cold hard cash flow or reasoning it kinda makes sense
didntknowyou··on Train sim created by just one person is being called the best ever made
are people really balking at paying 50k on 1 million of sales? that is a problem i would like to have.

steam did provide the basic dev/hosting/sale/marketing platform.

didntknowyou··on Silent speech with ultrasound
there is a perception that ultrasound is not as dangerous as xrays (radiation etc). As we find more use-cases for it we need to be aware that the damage caused by blasting organs with energy waves is not negligible.
didntknowyou··on Small Penis Rule
idk if that would work in real life. there are cases where one sibling gets less than another and judges still rule things have to be split equitably and children should be provided for.
didntknowyou··on The great blogging collapse: What happened to 100 successful blogs?
blogging was like a diary, mostly authentic with people just primarily focused on sharing. some with banner ads on the site to get pocket change.

then with substack, social media monetisation, etc everything became income focus. writers got taken over by influencers and content became focused on grabbing attention. didn' take long for readers to leave after that.

didntknowyou··on Costco is the anti-Amazon
costco buyers typically buy in bulk and fill a pantry in one go. i doubt one truck can fill 100 pantry. maybe a few products each
didntknowyou··on One million passports leaked online
that shoebox would prob be thrown or burnt at some point tho, rather than being accessed by savvy hackers from across the globe.
didntknowyou··on Rocketlab acquires Iridium
it needed to be American to get all their defense contracts.

the kiwi connection was just PR, and to access local launch sites.

didntknowyou··on Why jet engines aren't made in China
recently? and you posted an almost 10yo article?
didntknowyou··on New Zealand paid Michelin $6.3M to make a guide for the country
Works out to about USD $3.6m
didntknowyou··on Claude Code is steganographically marking requests
i think you're being played by their whole ethical high horse PR angle
didntknowyou··on Surprise, pay $1000
well being a YC company im sure they know all the different trial and funneling strategies, they chose to hack it the sketchy way
didntknowyou··on Surprise, pay $1000
it's also not easy to just apply for a chargeback in some jurisdiction. they are betting you will just give up and chalk it up as an expensive lesson.
didntknowyou··on Every company building your AI assistant is now an ad company
kinda depressing the race general intelligence is motivated by the potential to profit from ad sales.
didntknowyou··on A16z partner says that the theory that we’ll vibe code everything is wrong
so are they saying this based on their analysis, or because they are trying to stir up support for a non-vibe-coding startup they have have invested.
didntknowyou··on I guess I kinda get why people hate AI
oh please. people said that about the moon, and nuclear weapons too. and yet it's the one side who has a track record of using new technology to intidmidate.
