diehunde··on Alternatives to animal testing are finally taking off
Because not everyone in society is anthropocentric?
diehunde··on GPT-6 Astra Solves a WWI German Radio Cipher
And spend a shit ton of money doing it
diehunde··on Why I'm still bearish on LLMs after Navier-Stokes
Do you play chess ? Do you even know what an illegal move is ?
diehunde··on Learning Programming in an Age of LLMs
That’s one of the worst analogies I’ve seen lately
diehunde··on Why I'm still bearish on LLMs after Navier-Stokes
Oh I see. So if someone just reads books AND actual code then they can become experts, got it. And by the way LLMs are also trained with probably hundreds of thousands of actual games not just books
diehunde··on Why I'm still bearish on LLMs after Navier-Stokes
Oh right. But if all you do is reading programming books you are an amazing programmer? Where is all the training and practice LLMs did to become so good at coding?
diehunde··on Why I'm still bearish on LLMs after Navier-Stokes
Not one mention. Hundreds of books, articles and databases of games.
diehunde··on Why I'm still bearish on LLMs after Navier-Stokes
Except all these LLMs were already trained with hundreds of chess book and game databases and they still suck
diehunde··on Why I'm still bearish on LLMs after Navier-Stokes
AI bros: the LLM beats humans at solving Navier-Stokes and some old cypher. We are close to AGI

Also AI bros: LLM can’t beat an avg chess player. But that doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t count

diehunde··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
you still haven't told me why this is different from the last 40 years of computers beating humans at stuff
diehunde··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
Are you avoiding the question?
diehunde··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
What kind of enormous bearing? Computers have been able to do things humans can't for decades now.
diehunde··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
yeah no sh*t
diehunde··on On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem
OMG this is going to affect the lives of so many people! We have definitively reached AGI
diehunde··on Ask HN: Where do you get your AI (technology) news?
https://www.superhuman.ai/
diehunde··on LinkedIn Feed Blocker
Why would somebody doomscroll such garbage content? I understand why people get hooked on tiktok or instagram reels but linkedin posts?
diehunde··on Technical, cognitive, and intent debt
It's very nerve-racking for people who like to have a deep understanding of everything they ship. A modernization project that would take you 2 months now can be done in a week or less because you don't need to go deep into the business logic to replicate it and instead you can just focus on designing the boundaries and interfaces properly. Then like the article mentions, just create a good test harness to test parity as much as you can. I was feeling very conflicted about this myself, but then I thought: I have these other systems I have to maintain on a daily basis and I also don't understand the internals and business logic that well because I wrote them years ago and haven't changed much. I just rely on the test suite if something needs to be changed or the code structure if I need to see how something in particular works.
diehunde··on Laws of Software Engineering
I guess that's why confirmation bias is also listed?
diehunde··on Laravel raised money and now injects ads directly into your agent
You should use seconds to make it even more dramatic

diehunde··on Oracle slashes 30k jobs
Well clearly not everyone is saying it's a bubble (you maybe?) so I don't know where that leaves us. Also, IIRC there are massive lawsuits underway so there's definitely people doing s.th. about it
diehunde··on Oracle slashes 30k jobs
At least you didn't go with electricity or the internet. Respect.
diehunde··on Oracle slashes 30k jobs
Love the confidence. The logic can catch up later.
diehunde··on Oracle slashes 30k jobs
Could this be the start of the AI bubble bursting? There are so many rumors going around about data centers not being built, GPUs waiting to be installed, debt, and much more. Crazy times.
diehunde··on CodingFont: A game to help you pick a coding font
Did the whole thing. I got IBM Plex. Actually looks great
diehunde··on Having Kids (2019)
Such a corny take. People should have kids when they know for sure they want to become parents. If they are unsure because the life they want for themselves seems incompatible, then it becomes a gamble. So many miserable parents out there who hide their experiences because they are afraid of social punishment or because they need to convince themselves that this permanent life-altering decision was the right one. That's my take as someone who for 35 years didn't want kids and one day woke up knowing for sure I wanted a kid in my family.
diehunde··on I'm OK being left behind, thanks
As an employee of a big tech company doing this, it's all fear mongering. We are being told that if everyone doesn't use these tools, our competitors will wipe the floor with us because they are using them and will ship features 10x faster. But many engineers are suspicious as well.
diehunde··on Shall I implement it? No
Many of us are literally being forced to use it at work by people who haven't written a line of code in years (VPs, directors, etc) and decided to play around with it during a weekend and blew their minds.
diehunde··on Ask HN: Which book are you reading these days?
I started reading the second edition of Designing data-intensive applications. I believe only the digital edition is out right now.
