dkdbejwi383··on North Korean fake job interview led to $6.3B Binance heist
Their current job, presumably
dkdbejwi383··on Milkman – The Better Alternative to Postman
Both the application UI and website are giving open source option from 2008
dkdbejwi383··on Solar power is becoming bigger than nuclear
Surely the real sweet spot is diversity? Solar for when it's sunny (which is more often than many think in lots of parts of the UK, especially SE England), wind (reliable most of the year in other parts of the UK), tidal/wave/hydro, etc.
dkdbejwi383··on The new iPad mini
I've been hoping for a water and dust resistant tablet for use in the pottery studio for a while (for photographing work in progress, cataloguing glaze ingredients, taking notes, etc), as it's a wet and dirty environment, but the price kills all interest.
dkdbejwi383··on New iPad mini
You tip for purchases from a shop in Canada? Or is that a joke that's gone over my head?
dkdbejwi383··on The new iPad mini
Costs as much as the full-size one did until recently.
dkdbejwi383··on Americans' social activity has steeply declined in the past 30 years
Parties and dates aren't the only ways to socialise. What about sports clubs, art or language classes, board games, a beer or wine tasting club?
dkdbejwi383··on The United Kingdom generates less electricity per person than in the 1970s
> Not only these morons had in mind that electricity demand should decrease (even before AI, it was obvious that demand would go up as we are moving away from fossil fuel with both heating and transportation going electric).

Demand on the national grid probably should; as home solar (yes, even in stereotypically dark and cloudy UK), wind etc becomes more and more viable I think a mix of on-site and grid electricity will be increasingly common.

dkdbejwi383··on Postgres isn't slow, your storage is
There's a balance to be had between a highly specialised custom tool that does exactly what you need now, versus a generalist tool that does what you do today and more but is less optimised for your specific use-case today. That, and standing on the shoulders of giants, knowing why those fences are there, and so on.
dkdbejwi383··on The 15-year search for a band that charted once and vanished
They're linked in the article.
dkdbejwi383··on The 15-year search for a band that charted once and vanished
Don't yuck someone else's yum
dkdbejwi383··on Show HN: Mecum, open source Mac app that lets agents use ANY desktop software
That's quite the name
dkdbejwi383··on Nike exits the S&P 100 after 18 years and a $200B market-cap wipeout
Most races I've participated in or spectated at in the last few years you'd see Hoka on at least half the runners' feet.
dkdbejwi383··on iTerm 2 Companion App
What does it actually do? The page just states "it lets your phone work together with your terminal" but what does that actually mean?
dkdbejwi383··on Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives
In most places where train travel is an option, you'll probably be a 10-15 min walk from a station, or a 5 minute cycle, or a short connecting trip on a bus or tram. Multi-modal trips and short walks are normal in a lot of places - I know this isn't the case in America because of how American owned mapping apps like Google Maps go out of their way to hide routes with more than a 5 minute walk involved.
dkdbejwi383··on Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives
What a strange thing to say
dkdbejwi383··on Growing proof that autonomous cars save lives
Enforcement, too, including the little things that "don't really matter". Letting people get away with minor infringements like parking where it's forbidden, idling with the engine running, close passes etc means the window of what's acceptable driving behaviour shifts.

We should return to the idea that driving is a privilege, not a right.

dkdbejwi383··on What will our economic future look like?
> Ultimately, what the economy looks like in 2030 depends on many factors, like what AI can do, and how companies and workers choose to adopt it.

So the answer is basically "beats me lol"

dkdbejwi383··on I wanna live an NPC life
It’s funny, because one might argue that a lack of awareness of, or empathy for the fact that other people also have thoughts and autonomy also demonstrates a lack of self-conscious critical thought.
dkdbejwi383··on Brits would quite like their private messages to stay private
I can't imagine this is at top of mind for many voters, or even in mind at all. People are more concerned with things like the cost of living, immigration and things like local planning law.
dkdbejwi383··on Pnpm 12.0
Markdown is ubiquitous in the kinds of places Hacker News visitors also tend to visit, like GitHub, various ticketing and project management systems like Jira, note takers like Obsidian and Notion (or an approximation of Markdown).

I've used `--` for years in place of an em-dash, which markdown renders as an actual em-dash.

dkdbejwi383··on Nebula Sans
And then there's the cheesecake from La Viña which stands above all others.
dkdbejwi383··on Berd
I think that's the point, no? The page is light on text but appears to be some kind of weird art project making fun of the inane "helpful and friendly" personas given to LLM chatbots
dkdbejwi383··on Cursor launches Origin, GitHub alternative
Just because Billy misbehaved doesn’t make it ok for Jenny to do the same.
dkdbejwi383··on Incident with Github.com [resolved]
I just use GitHub for the basics: repo hosting, reviews and actions - what are the "social media psyop manipulations"? I've never really paid much attention to the other features.
dkdbejwi383··on Show HN: Eigendrum - Draw any shape and hear what it sounds like as a drum
Audio doesn’t seem to work in mobile safari.
dkdbejwi383··on Opus 5 is lazy (A Twitter thread)

dkdbejwi383··on More German than many Germans
> rules[...] have the potential to enable NPC like behaviour which is all too common

Would you mind explaining this? What is NPC-like behaviour?

dkdbejwi383··on Ask HN: Do you see a Pancake in the top left menu at Github.com?
Yes
dkdbejwi383··on Ask HN: What is the most unique website you've come across on the internet?
