dnpls··on Supermarket freezers across Europe hit by second suspected cyber-attack
They do it to take advantage of energy price fluctuations, but the connection should be more secure. What makes no sense is not having a fallback to take the freezers offline after the attack, so their solution is to just fully turn them off?
dnpls··on Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone
Got it. So if I want to hack anything, check if it can open PDF files first.
dnpls··on ThinkPad I9990303 Error Catch-22
Sound logic. Personally, I have never come across that error when a keyboard was connected.
dnpls··on Dogs seem to agree with humans that 'bouba' is round and 'kiki' is spiky
kaka no good
dnpls··on Using AI to reverse engineer hardware
So, in theory, I could just reverse-engineer the old Wacom tablet I have with no driver support for the M-series processor and build me a driver so I can continue using it? (there is a driver but it seems it will stop working with the next OS update).
dnpls··on Meta VR Glasses
Blurry text is horribly noticeable after a while, and it also creates eye fatigue from trying to focus your vision on it. It also means you can't use smaller font sizes, which is important for some people since you can have more text on screen.
dnpls··on Meta VR Glasses
Same here. I've been looking for a way to bring my multi-monitor setup with me to work when I travel, VR glasses would be the most portable solution. But I won't buy it while it needs a subscription of any kind, I want it to work like my LG monitor: dumb, doesn't need software to use (drivers would be fine, 'apps' won't), haven't had any sort of mandatory update since I bought it years ago, I just plug it and it works.
dnpls··on Show HN: I made a flight simulator, except you're just a passenger
That's genius hahaha but damn, give me a window seat at least!
dnpls··on Ambient CSS v3 – Blender meets CSS
yeah the light and shadows constantly spinning are a bit much, but it's not all bad!
dnpls··on Ambient CSS v3 – Blender meets CSS
Glad I'm not the only one. It's just skeuomorphic CSS? I guess mentioning Blender must be better for SEO, or maybe that's just what the GPT suggested...
dnpls··on Worms: The Future of Yesterday's Worms Today
wow gorilla.bas... that brings back memories!
dnpls··on I learned PCB design, 3D printing and C just to listen to music
This is an awesome project! I think it would be a great use case for a color e-ink display, I imagine it would consume way less energy.
dnpls··on Show HN: A new kind of FPS aim trainer
I'm using chrome on Mac and to me the movement is choppy as well, as described above, like the cursor snaps to points on a grid. I thought it could be my mouse, but maybe not then.
dnpls··on What else do people draw on gradient.horse?
I've seen it mentioned somewhere this is known as TTD - Time To Dick - as the amount of time elapsed between releasing a drawing tool in the open and someone using it to draw a dick.
dnpls··on Our Amish Language
Even Dothraki has a word for love!
dnpls··on Backtrack-Free Cursive
All images on the site appear broken to me, using Chrome on Mac. Is it a site-issue or a me-issue?
dnpls··on AI-generated videos to maximally drive a target brain region
The whole site looks AI generated. Those 3D brains are... smooth.
dnpls··on Patterncollider: Generate and explore quasiperiodic tiling patterns
Really cool tool. One detail: the instructions do not say what selecting tiles or lines do, it doesn't seem to do anything besides highlight the item on the other panel, what is that for?
dnpls··on Europe's company websites are mostly served by US vendors
This could be Adyen's opportunity for a growth spike if they seize it
dnpls··on Giant Banana Pulled Over: Driver Says Cops Have Stopped Him 100s of Times
Captain America turns head I understood that reference
dnpls··on I'm Tired of Talking to AI
The worst part of this is the person that doesn't even bother copying the text, rather just screenshot the AI answer and send it. That's the new lowest level of not giving a crap about the question.
dnpls··on Ferrari Luce
The exterior is just a magic mouse! At least those switches in the dashboard are real switches, not touchscreen buttons.
dnpls··on They Live (1988) inspired Adblocker
Did something nefarious happen to your link?
dnpls··on Dithering with CSS
Two-tone doesn't seem to be doing much, regardless of the colors I select. White becomes a light sepia, that's all.
dnpls··on Making RAM at Home [video]
You mean at the RAMch? I'll see myself out now
dnpls··on Unfolder for Mac – A 3D model unfolding tool for creating papercraft
So, like Pepakura? https://pepakura.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura_designer/
dnpls··on Mouser: An open source alternative to Logi-Plus mouse software
This is amazing. I like the Logitech mouse + kbd that I have but the Logi apps are crap. At some point (not too long ago) I had to run TWO Logi apps because the newer one didn't have support for my keyboard. Mind you, it's some MX artsy-fartsy with the volume knob, so it's not old hardware. Also the app was awful, the volume knob didn't work right away, then the volume would go up and down some 5 minutes later on its own. I'll gladly get rid of the Logi apps ASAP.
dnpls··on Building a new Flash
Have you tried Rive? It seems to have a lot of potential for game development.
dnpls··on Building a new Flash
I came here thinking the same. To me, it looks like Rive is the closest tool with the highest potential to be a Flash replacement.
dnpls··on Moss is a pixel canvas where every brush is a tiny program
I have tried just now and it didn't work at all. I can select brushes and colors, but nothing gets applied on that white canvas! Using chrome on Macos.
