Agree, lived in Tokyo, San Francisco, Kentucky and visited many cities. Small towns with “nothing to do” are the places for real camaraderie
dreit1··on Libra White Paper
So we’ve from government issued inflationary currencies to multinational scrip backed by government currencies. Sounds like bitcoin is a better hedge than ever against today’s economic environment.
dreit1··on Block.one’s sale of its digital tokens dwarfs other coin sales
I assume you're talking about NEO :P

dreit1··on Block.one’s sale of its digital tokens dwarfs other coin sales
They're building EOS, they're probably going to be dumping Ethereum for the forseeable future. Pretty interesting strategy to be honest.

Imagine raising your capital with the stock of another public company, then your proceed to continuously devalue said public company by dumping your shares in order to gain liquid capital to build your product.

Edit: The most interesting thing to come out of the cryptocurrency is that the lines between equity and currency have become very blurred

dreit1··on ICOs are Cancer
"The only restriction is that a potential investor has to prove that they realise that the value of an investment can go down as well as up. That, in other words, they're not an idiot, and won't demand that the government "do something about it" when their investment tanks."

So you're saying that isn't possible? Very few people in the ICO space are demanding the government do anything.

Also live outside of the US and you'll realize how untrue your statement is. You'll see very quickly that many services that deal with asset trading are region locked (Robin Hood) for example

dreit1··on ICOs are Cancer
Thank you. ICO's fundamentally change the nature of global marketplace dynamics. Whether its stocks, bonds, tokens, or whatever other digital asset, it is now shown that these items can be traded by anyone, anywhere, and anytime.

This is a fundamental shift in how markets have traditionally worked. Accessible by few, siloed by regional boundaries.

This post comes off as another angry bitcoin maximalist, upset that blockchain isn't being used the way they want it to be used

dreit1··on Chasing fake volume: a crypto-plague
Huobi and OkEx have been doing this for years and years. The CEO of Binance had a nice (now deleted) rant on reddit, calling them out for this. Solution: Don't use the sketchy as hell exchanges

lots of resources here, also recommend mentioning the discord here

NEO is still very raw, and it takes a lot of work to get involved, however it’s a tight nit developer community and some serious opportunities to get involved and shape the project. Source: I am active in the developer community and have a company building on NEO
dreit1··on Switzerland embraces digital currencies and crypto-entrepreneurs
Pick a consortium style chain instead? dBFT or dPOS would be great for a national, distributed currency which a government still exerts a great amount of influence over

dreit1··on Like Peter Thiel, Tech Workers Feel Alienated by Silicon Valley ‘Echo Chamber’
This is the exact type of commentary the article is talking. This conservative strawman you’ve built is far from average. In this absurd, inflammatory commentary replace the conservative boogeyman with a Muslim boogeyman or a gay boogeyman and realize you’re using the exact same type of rhetoric as the people you despise
dreit1··on My professional opinion as a blockchain researcher: I don’t see the point (yet)
I'll give a very simple example that shows the power of blockchains. I needed to receive a very large sum of money from a foreign country.

Half was paid in cryptocurrency, and half was paid in cash via the traditional banking system.

It took 3+ weeks for the money to make it through the banking system.

It took 15 minutes for the cryptocurrency to arrive. I don't get how anyone can not see the obvious merit to this system

dreit1··on SENS Research Foundation Receives $2.4M Ethereum Donation from Vitalik Buterin
This is a gross misinterpretation of what actually happened. Read up on the OP_RETURN saga. Bitcoin Core completely shitting on Counterparty is why Vitalik decided not to build on top of a system that showed that the core developers could and would pull out the rug from under him

OP_RETURN is the greatest turning point in cryptocurrency history

dreit1··on Why Gates and Jobs shielded their kids from tech
I mean it's simple. Once you see how the sausage is made you obviously don't want your kids involved. Fundamentally most tech products are made with the goal of exploiting human behavior in order to increase engagement with the product.
dreit1··on Tether has “dissolved” relationship with auditor Friedman LLP
Ironically it could push the price up. If everyone rushes out of tether to Bitcoin...well you know what happens
dreit1··on Tether has “dissolved” relationship with auditor Friedman LLP
But they will give you dollars for bitcoin or ether. However, I agree, I never trade tether because that is the last bag you want to hold if the crypto market collapses
dreit1··on Tether has “dissolved” relationship with auditor Friedman LLP
The most popular exchanges these days are crypto only. Thus if your a trader that wants to trade against the dollar, you have to do USDT, not the actual dollar
dreit1··on 6 alternative (and better) uses for blockchain
I assume delegated consensus. You don't mine anything.
dreit1··on 6 alternative (and better) uses for blockchain
In dBFT the attack vector is a collusion attack between elected delegates. In practice I do not see this being any more likely than a 51% hashpower attack.

However most delegated systems are still young. The only reason people believe that 51% attacks are impossible is because it has worked for 10 years. If delegated systems work for the same amount of time, I don't see why they wont get the same reputation.

I think Dan Larimer gives a good argument on the situation.

https://steemit.com/eos/@dan/response-to-vitalik-buterin-on-...

Edit: His Conclusion is something many people should consider, when outright rejecting delegated consensus.

"EOS is designed around far more realistic assumptions and logic and achieves scalability by avoiding the dogmatic fallacies promoted by Bitcoin and Ethereum maximalists."

dreit1··on 6 alternative (and better) uses for blockchain
Im all in on dBFT, so I believe in the elected delegates maintaining said distributed database. Similarly to how governments maintain roads, I trust the elected parties to not corrupt the database.

I think complete trustlessness is a false dichotomy. Im ok with trusting certain parties in maintaining distributed "value databases" as one might call them}

Edit: false dichotomy is bad phrase, idk "chasing the wrong goal?"

dreit1··on 6 alternative (and better) uses for blockchain
Trust isn't neccesarily the only solution that blockchains solve. Lets consider a simple example, login credentials.

Your login credentials exist on many different centralized databases, which a service provider is responsible for managing. This leads to increased possibility that one of the providers messes up (identity breach) and leads to an unnecessary amount of data replication across databases.

Why do I need credentials for every single different service? Instead why don't we store these login credentials in a blockchain so that many providers can access these IF you let them, in a cryptographically secure way.

You PROVE your identity on the blockchain without actually letting them store identity information on their database.

A blockchain is basically a shared resource pool where a user chooses who can access the data that belongs to them whether it be assets, identity, or other important data.

Service providers no longer have to be responsible for it and the user is put back in control.

This is a much saner way of storing important things on the web

dreit1··on Why Is Bitcoin Valuable?
> Having completely anonymous money sure benefits some small businesses (mostly those living in places with bad institutions), but it also enables a lot of very questionable businesses and people.

I'm not in favor of this argument at all. The internet has incredible benefits, but enables a lot of bad actors. Encryption has incredible benefits but enables a lot of bad actors. Lots of good things also enable bad things, that doesn't mean we shouldn't allow them.

Outside of third world or financially repressive countries, cryptocurrencies are great for "global citizens." I have done contract work while living in a different country, for clients in other countries, both parties have found it much easier to pay each other using cryptocurrencies as opposed to fiat.

dreit1··on Watching the Bitcoin fire from a safe distance – what just happened
Ah yes again with the "I told you so" posts. Even though basically everyone that has been in the market before December is still significantly in the green. But no, THIS is probably the time cryptoassets are dead
