drewlem··on People are the hard part of AI
In a lot of ways it is, when you remove all the humans from the loop it goes really fast. There's tons of unicorns now through AI, way more than before AI. If you are trying to make the point that any human should be able to use AI to create any unicorn, you are making the point of the article. The human still has a huge impact on it.
drewlem··on Show HN: Software Bloat Calculator
I've been in lots of 2027 planning meetings lately. The biggest question on everyone's mind is about their tech stack.

Most people know it's bloated, but in the end, they don't cancel. I wanted to create a fun way for people to review their software stack for savings going into 2027.

Feedback welcome, my goal is just to help people during a crazy time where SaaS is literally eating itself.

drewlem··on Show HN: HissingKitty – what teams pay for software and what replaced it
Have spent the last 20 years building and launching software in some of the biggest companies in the world. Every week I hear people debating "build vs. buy" or someone bragging about how much money they saved building custom tech in house.

I think we are going into a 2027 that will be somehow even more confusing than 2026, and I wanted a place that had more data and facts and less opinions. Hopefully over time we can aggregate enough real data to build consensus.

The data comes from real people, real posts, listings from builders, and sourced stories. While one of them alone might exaggerate the truth, over time it will be obvious when you average out the data.

Just getting going with this, so would love feedback. And if you are building your own platforms, or have data to add, feel free to add it. In some places data is still thin, but I'm adding more to it each day.

Thanks for your help in getting more data out there and less opinions on the whole "build vs. buy" conversation when it comes to software platforms.

drewlem··on Org chart is your cycle time
My friend who is a CTO is currently about to quit because their CEO is convinced he can go faster acquiring AI native apps and integrating them. It's a mess because of the tech, but mostly it's two different ways of building.
drewlem··on Show HN: Claude Code vs. Codex Global Usage Leaderboard
Tried it just now and really like the concept. It's a lot more than a private leaderboard. Going to onboard the rest of our team and setup a leaderboard for our next product sprint.
drewlem··on Show HN: Claude Code vs. Codex Global Usage Leaderboard
If you think tracking AI usage and connecting it back to outcomes and ROI is pointless, you are likely going to be without a job soon. See commentary from Cloudflare, ClickUp, Meta, etc.
drewlem··on Tale of Two Economies Will Determine Post-Lockdown Growth
I think the real two economies actually are tech vs. everything else.
drewlem··on US weekly jobless claims jump by 6.6M
And yet the stock market goes higher...
drewlem··on “Slack vs. Teams” as the world goes remote
I think there is a big opportunity for Slack right now. MSFT is pretty much giving away Teams but Slack is still growing, that tells you something.
