dsnr··on Ask HN: Founders of estonian e-businesses – is it worth it?
Not answering your question directly but accounting and taxes are a thing everywhere. EU rules make accounting for companies quite complicated.

Focus on your business, open the smallest and simplest entity you can to validate your product before spending time and money optimizing or scaling things. That being said, I’m familiar with GmbHs in Germany and I would advise against going this route unless funding is available. Try a sole proprietorship instead if possible.

dsnr··on Lies I was told about collaborative editing, Part 2: Why we don't use Yjs
It should be noted that this is about text editing specifically, and for other use-cases YJS is using other code pathways/algorithms, but you have to be careful how you design your data structure for atomic updates.
dsnr··on Show HN: I spent 4 years building a UI design tool with only the features I use
Thanks for reporting, I'm looking into it.

dsnr··on C++ std::move doesn't move anything: A deep dive into Value Categories
In simpler terms

1. You must implement a move constructor or a move assignment operator in order for std::move to do anything

2. The moved object could be left in an unusable state, depending on your implementation, after stealing its internal resources.

dsnr··on Intellij IDEA now supports C/C++
Too little too late. Used to be a JetBrains user and subscriber when IDEA was the best Java IDE. They lost me with the excessive product segmentation in the pursuit for profits.

For example, Python is heavily used for web dev where you need to do both backend and frontend. Neither PyCharm nor WebStorm alone offers what I need in one app.

VS Code with clangd is what I use now when I need to code C++.

dsnr··on CSS now has an if() conditional function
Next I want to run WASM inside CSS. W3C, please don’t disappoint.

dsnr··on Red Alert 2 in web browser
Exactly what I was thinking.

Minimum specs: Memory: 4GB (8GB recommended)

The original ran on 128 MB or even less.

dsnr··on Red Alert 2 in web browser
I wonder what’s wrong with Firefox? What is the bottleneck? The JavaScript engine? I’m guessing the thing is compiled to wasm anyway.
dsnr··on Uv is the best thing to happen to the Python ecosystem in a decade
This. I was researching uv to replace my pipenv+pyenv setup, but after reading up a bit I decided to just give up. Pipenv is just straightforward and “just works”. Aside from being slow, not much is wrong with it. I’m not in the mood to start configuring uv, a tool that should take me 2 minutes and a “uv —-help” to learn.
dsnr··on Study: MRI contrast agent causes harmful metal buildup in some patients
> That's why we don't give MRI's out the wazoo

Why? What are the risks of MRIs without contrast?

dsnr··on AV2 video codec delivers 30% lower bitrate than AV1, final spec due in late 2025
> Better codecs are an overall win for everyone involved.

I don’t remember ever watching a movie and wishing for a better codec, in the last 10 years

dsnr··on Dropbox announces 20% global workforce reduction
> enter a sort of maintenance mode

There exists such a mode: it's called dividend distribution. But currently DBX and many other tech companies aren't paying any dividends to stock holders. So if it's not growing and not paying dividends, what is the company doing?

dsnr··on You are onboarding developers wrong (Featuring Ambient Game Engine)
> There’s a million wrong ways to pet the bird, but Ambient gives you a falconers glove, pulls out a fresh raptor and shows you how to take off it’s hood while holding some rabbit meat at the other side of the field

Had to bail out when I got to this part.

dsnr··on Breakfast cereal is in long-term decline
Fruit that I would consider as good food have a lower GI than your favorite cereal, so your argument that there exists high GI food that works well as good food, doesn’t stand. Bad example. There’s definitely fruit out there that I would only rarely touch.
dsnr··on Breakfast cereal is in long-term decline
Cereals have a high glycaemic index even without any additives, so they’re objectively not good food.
