Phones, laptops, GPUs and many other modern highly integrated electronic products are repairable. Look it up, there are tons of videos on YouTube of people doing component level repairs. Leaked schematics make a huge difference here.

Can you give me some examples of SpaceX innovations that disrupted the industry?

Here are some of my issues with SpaceX marketing:

  1) Cost to NASA/DoD seems to be similar to ULA.

  2) SpaceX continues to fly expandable boosters for missions above LEO and for heavier payloads. Reusable boosters have lower lift and range and require extensive refurbishment between missions. Upper stage is not reusable.

  3) SpaceX hasn't flown a single mission into deep space or Mars despite this being the stated goal of the company. In the same time, others have flown multiple rockets to Mars and to other planets. We have multiple rovers roaming the surface of Mars and satellites orbiting other planes all while SpaceX has contributed nothing to these efforts.
I personally see SpaceX contributions to the industry are mostly incremental:

  1) Booster reusability to LEO and for light payloads.

  3) Human rated capsule for space station resupply missions.

  3) High quality video content from launches.

  4) Increased interest in space exploration at the expense of unrealistic expectations in relation to cost and timelines.

House prices will adjust once air taxis take off (no pun intended).
duhast··on The technological case against Bitcoin and blockchain
Bonds are a form of lending and pay coupons. Shares experience capital appreciation from business growth and pay dividends from profits. Houses bring rent. How does Bitcoin create wealth?
duhast··on The technological case against Bitcoin and blockchain
Bitcoin solves inflation with deflation and transfer of surplus from labour to Bitcoin holders. Add inelastic coin supply, low transaction rate, no anonymity, high energy consumption, whales owning most coins, tendency to concentrate mining capacity in the hands of few players (7 pools own 50% of mining capacity), undemocratic governance and it looks even worse. Bitcoin is not money. At best it's a digital collectable. After a decade of trying Bitcoin's only application appears to be facilitation of ransom payments, speculation for rich and insecure middle class and evasion of sanctions by the likes of Iran or North Korea. Hard currencies simply don't work in practice and are fundamentally undemocratic. We tried this with gold and it didn't work.
duhast··on Your app is not compliant with Google Play Policies: A story from hell
Users are consistently choosing locked down Apple ecosystem over more open Android. How are you going to explain this?

You also need to realise that you’re not an average user. You’re in 0.0001% of the population when it comes to use of technology and your preferences might not reflect the average Joe.

Most phones would quickly fill up with apps doing malware, phishing, spam, crypto mining and DDoS attacks.

duhast··on Your app is not compliant with Google Play Policies: A story from hell
HM is a bubble with bias against Google. People here seem to believe that bashing this company publicly will somehow change how they operate.

Interestingly enough, back in the day Google used to be a darling of HN community. I suspect folks might be disappointed to see how things turned out at the end.

duhast··on Your app is not compliant with Google Play Policies: A story from hell
What is astonishing is that despite the scale at which they operate we rarely hear about the problems. False positives seem to be ridiculously low.
duhast··on Your app is not compliant with Google Play Policies: A story from hell
How would you realistically solve this problem? Part of what makes these platforms so attractive to the end user is in fact app curation. Strict control over APIs and power usage, all sorts of minimum standards and mandatory integrations are contributing enormous value to these ecosystems.
duhast··on Your app is not compliant with Google Play Policies: A story from hell
1. It wouldn’t be 5 minutes. This could easily take hours to resolve.

2. Even with human support, companies like this would continue to be incentivised not to share what exactly triggered the ban in order to protect their systems from spam and abuse. You can’t provide services to billions of people without automation.

3. Human reviews would be performed by humans. Have you ever met humans? You’re replacing an imperfect system with another imperfect system except now things are slower and cost more.

duhast··on The IPv6 Mess (2002)
Oracle Cloud VMs support dual stack IPv4 + IPv6.
duhast··on The IPv6 Mess (2002)
Nothing in the IPv6 spec forces you to publicly advertise your globally flat address space. Even if you do choose to advertise your prefixes publicly, you can still use firewalls to block some or even all traffic.
duhast··on YouTube is banning anti-vaccine activists and blocking all anti-vaccine content
I personally agree with you. Issue is that this view is not shared by the majority of the population. Even naked female nipples are still somehow offensive to some people.

Imagine being called ISISTube. This wouldn't be good for business especially with the family oriented crowd.

RIP LiveLeak.

duhast··on YouTube is banning anti-vaccine activists and blocking all anti-vaccine content
So you're effectively proposing that government should be deciding what speech is allowed on the platforms. How is this free speech if government can silence you?
duhast··on YouTube is banning anti-vaccine activists and blocking all anti-vaccine content
How would you make YouTube better? Monetise all content regardless of what advertisers say? Never remove any videos? Have courts make decisions whether video should be removed or not? Hire more human moderators as if humans are somehow super reliable and never make mistakes? I'm genuinely curious.
duhast··on YouTube is banning anti-vaccine activists and blocking all anti-vaccine content
I will only point out that it took Twitter years to ban Trump despite him violating their ToS almost on a daily basis. Your point about "alignment" applies to power in general. Be it political power, money or influence and following.

How is YouTube exploiting their market position? Last time I checked it cost literally 0$ to use their video platform. What do you think government should do?
