dukeyukey··on The Grid, a factory-scale robot in Massachusetts that builds PCBs on demand
Trump was elected twice. This time, his vice-president is absolutely someone who would continue the same policies, albeit in a more sober way.

I am not sure you understand the damage this administration has done.

Are you manufacturing in the UK as well? Saw on your site you are hiring mechanical engineers here.
dukeyukey··on Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale
If Bill Gates offers megamoney for farmland, and Alex Karp offers megamoney for lumber, then it encourages the creation of more farmland and lumber.
dukeyukey··on Wealth Inequality in America drawn to scale
Although looking at Levels.fyi, salaries in London are significantly more than Singapore, and that's with the CoL apparently being higher in Singapore.

I'm not sure it applies to SV either. Like definitely some, but not even most.
dukeyukey··on 'I've applied for 300 jobs. My 25 years' experience is worthless'
Basically two things:

* I target jobs I've got an advantage at (e.g. they use backend Kotlin, which is a bit niche but I have several years experience in).

* I'm friendly, talkative, and if the energy is right, will banter. Doesn't sound like much but being easy to talk to is a massive advantage.

dukeyukey··on 'I've applied for 300 jobs. My 25 years' experience is worthless'
I don't believe this. My latest job hunt was about 6 months ago, I had to stop applying for jobs I got so many callbacks. My CV is decent but hardly outstanding, good experience but no name-brand companies.

I saw another comment where you said you are in Russia, my guess is that is the reason. Not like there's much consumer tech investment flowing there at the moment.

Next AGI test, when model companies have consistently good version branding.

I'm in North London, 500 entries for me, including several pubs.
dukeyukey··on The United Kingdom generates less electricity per person than in the 1970s
About half the homes I've lived in (maybe a dozen?) were built before WW1. Lots of Victorian conversions.

There are comments here saying yes, rationing is planned.

dukeyukey··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
I have a bottle of Niagara icewine downstairs I'm very much looking forward to!
dukeyukey··on America.gov
That's just not true, a flow on gov.uk can involve a lot of pages but they are exceedingly clear and easy to navigate.
dukeyukey··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
Surely this just means Justworks is your HR team?
dukeyukey··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
My local Morrisons has a few decent 3.4% ales for £1-£1.25, I am a loyal customer.
dukeyukey··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
My local supermarket sells 3.4% ales for £1 each, it's fantastic.
dukeyukey··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
The damage from WW2 to Europe was not limited to bombing and killing, it includes the economic harm inflicted on Eastern Europe in the decades afterwards by the Soviets.
dukeyukey··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Europe does build ships, even if East Asia dominates. But the US is abnormally low, like it build less tonnage than Finland.

Not everyone can operate civilian ship fleets, managing a global shipping operation is not a "pick up and do it", it requires some build up.

dukeyukey··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
> What a weird one to pick. Do you think the US doesn't have massive ports like Europe?

The US has ports. But they don't build civilian ships, and they don't really own ships either. The vast majority of American ocean-going shipping is floated on ships owned by Europeans and built by East Asians

dukeyukey··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
The rebuilding phase only really got started in the 90s! Integrating the post-communist states was a huge effort that is still arguably going on.
dukeyukey··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
This is expected though, right? Even in Europe, unless you're a verysmall country, most business you deal with is domestic. Do by default, the largest companies mare going to be in the largest economies. Doesn't mean you can't get lucky every now and again, but you are handicapped by not having a large domestic consumption base protected via political independence.

China and the US are continent-scale megastates. Obviously a mid-sized Atlantic island like the UK, or smallish peninsula like Italy, are not going to compete on scale.

dukeyukey··on UK military jamming other nations' satellites to defend itself, BBC told
I work for a UK fintech that is bank-adjacent, the backend for the apps and the website are the same.
dukeyukey··on UK military jamming other nations' satellites to defend itself, BBC told
I imagine that if all banking apps go down as a result of war then bank websites, credit cards, basically any other digital financial thing will also be down.
dukeyukey··on UK military jamming other nations' satellites to defend itself, BBC told
If banking went down we'd have a hell of a time. It's not like I keep 6 months rent in cash on me.
dukeyukey··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
To be fair South Australia is:

* Incredibly sunny

* Incredibly sparely populated

* Functionally winterless

Like it's the perfect setup for solar.

Somewhere like Denmark, Japan, even the US Northeast does not have those.

dukeyukey··on Italian parliament votes for return to nuclear energy
Nuclear fuel is available from lots of countries, including Canada and Australia, plus deposits in Europe that aren't being minted because uranium is very cheap.

Plus you can stockpile it super easy.

I can't speak for the graduate or American market, but I can tell you the market for reasonably experienced software people in London is hot. Loads of hiring and salaries are going up.
