dw5ight··on Is iOS7 jailbroken yet?
apparently not. sad face
dw5ight··on “The Right Tool For The Job” Isn't
ha, so true. much like "judgement" is the best technical skill you can hire for - far too many tech wizards spend 6 wks for +5% perf gain :(
dw5ight··on When Batman isn’t available: Crowd-fund
Crushing it as usual!

dw5ight··on The Internship: Not the Movie
w00t hireart 4tw. although wth is friedman writing about?
dw5ight··on Kickstarter wants less risk and more consistent fundraising success
huh. still pretty cool site, though seems like valid complaints. curious what author would say about crowdtilt/ their new api - did $400k for soylent no-food stuff in 2 days right?
dw5ight··on [dead]
what's API look like?
dw5ight··on Updating Crowdhoster: building accessible, open-source crowdfunding
looks good. stoked to see what else you guys build! :D
dw5ight··on Ark bought Carsabi
fwiw acquihire means fb gets your investors some money back and you get a decent offer when Craigslist sues you and things go south. as car search is not particularly relevant to social media, we were pretty happy to turn over the IP to Ark as another Cal grad search company and can't wait to see what they do with it.
dw5ight··on Halloween party-yacht in bay area: "Largest crowdfunded party to date"
way to go James and co!!!! (plus damn great party)
dw5ight··on How Flutter Hopes To Kill Gesture Control’s Point-And-Click Crutch

dw5ight··on A Stroll Through the Craigslist-Crusher Startup Graveyard
yup. we got a cease and desist as well along with padmapper. we're trying to contact craigslist and see if there's a way to work with them. wish us luck!
dw5ight··on Carsabi Opens Access To Car Data (Apparently Green Cars Are Cheaper?)
oh yeah, this has nothing to do with what you should buy - we just built the tool after a few beers this weekend because it seemed like it would be cool to easily visualize every car for sale in SF... hope its enjoyable!

also - we are building a comprehensive recommendation engine for the top 50-100 models by collecting everything from EPA & NHTSA safety data to style awards and max lifetime mileage. this is probably a month out and has required getting pretty creative about crawling a number of heterogeneous data sources

dw5ight··on Efficiently Browsing Text or Code (esp. with Emacs)
awesome article, thanks K!
dw5ight··on HireArt (YC W12) Helps employers screen job applicants through work samples
We used hireArt to screen writers and got a ton of really good responses. the site still needs some work in automating the work sample process and I think we need to societally normalize/figure out the trial process (how do you build trust that I'm not looking for freebie work) but the premise is good - I'm done hiring people on the faith that they wont turn in complete shit. ::cough cough:: elance.
dw5ight··on Hacking the Used Car Purchase
Data was across the US. I tried looking for regional trends (price variation, etc), but at least at the state/major metropolitan area level price and availability distributions were surprisingly homogeneous. I'm hoping to deep dive later in more detail, but for saving money there didn't seem to be much on the regional front worth reporting. Thanks for reading!
dw5ight··on WePay: The Online Payment Start-up Behind Occupy Wall Street
stick it to the man, wepay!!!!
dw5ight··on Show HN: Glider, a better email client
In the abstract sense of having an electronic personal secretary that knew me well sort my email for me, yes!!! Absolutely yes and I'd pay $20/mo without blinking.

That said it appears a non-trivial classification / UI problem on a few fronts. Good luck :)

dw5ight··on Show HN: Craigslist Car Search
hm, not sure how we'd add exclusion to the search. do you find any of the price/mileage filters useful or do you really just want to be able to say "No Hyundai" (or whatever)?

I think we'd also like to add some basic recommendation engine type stuff soon - my last car was a $500 tercel so feel you on the ubercheap classification. If we had a "Sort by Cheapest Reliable" option would that be useful?

Thanks!

dw5ight··on Show HN: Craigslist Car Search
1. Yeah, pretty much everybody today told us to make tabs work. Going to add for sure 2. Hadn't thought of saving searches (not listings) yet, great idea 3. Damn! My js skills suck, will debug 3. I'll check with Edmunds if they have an API, that could be cool. In the mean time we were going to add some stats about how any car compares to others nationally with the same model, year, and mileage

thanks!
