e-brake··on Claude Code is all you need
Nothing new but you can configure Claude Code to use GPT5 as its LLM model: https://docs.litellm.ai/docs/tutorials/claude_responses_api
e-brake··on Ask HN: Has any of the Pivotal Tracker replacement attempts succeeded?
JIRA and its interface is incredibly slow in comparison. An extra 30-60 seconds per task to create assign and organize
e-brake··on Grok: Searching X for "From:Elonmusk (Israel or Palestine or Hamas or Gaza)"
I question the legitimacy of the ICC, considering their impartiality and failure to take action against Hamas

e-brake··on Tesla loses ground as Chinese EVs dominate global markets
Tons of them on the streets in Guadalajara
e-brake··on Ask HN: Best Windows/Linux developer laptop in 2025
So many ultrabooks and even some high-end productivity laptops cap out at 32GB of soldered RAM, while portable gaming devices are packing 64GB of upgradeable RAM. I feel like that dam is going to break soon.
e-brake··on I'm Done with Ubuntu
Ubuntu and Pop!_OS upgrades fried my systems in the past, making me think Linux as a desktop OS wasn't worth so much wasted energy.

There are more stable distros!

e-brake··on Modern JavaScript for Django Developers
It is built to fully support asynchronous endpoints, and uses pydantic models for validation and parsing - lightweight and nicely fast
e-brake··on Ask HN: Where to Work After 40?
Second this, try to stand out in some way. I mostly receive floods of terrible resumes, spam and obvious LLM generated text.

The worst hire I made also had university credentials and apparently wasn't educated in how to deliver anything but academic noodling.

e-brake··on Sleep on it: How the brain processes many experiences, even when 'offline'
Coding nightmares! I get these too, when working too much. Perseverating on solving intractable problems that don't exist. Once solved it though, and woke up thrilled. That was a good work-night.
e-brake··on Launch HN: Hatchet (YC W24) – Open-source task queue, now with a cloud version
And RabbitMQ :S
e-brake··on Nginx Unit: open-source, lightweight and versatile application runtime
I am using NGINX Unit with Django in a bunch of production workloads, with high traffic. Works really well!

The most time spent was building from source in Docker for ARM support and going down a rabbit hole of targeting the minor Python version that apt was installing on some Debians, w/o a virtual env, instead of the one it defaulted to.

I'm a fan. High performance, easily configurable ASGI server for so many flavors.

e-brake··on Alaska's Pristine Waterways Are Turning Orange

e-brake··on What to do when an airline website doesn't accept your legal name
My legal first name is "E". Forms often require more characters. I just add more Es!

Never had a problem, even with three Es.

e-brake··on Intel launches Core Ultra processors
If you are spending time getting it to work, I'm not sure that's a bad thing. It makes you a better developer!
e-brake··on KDE Plasma 6.0 Is Enabling Wayland by Default
This is great. Running Wayland has only been getting better.

Hoping this transition to default will get the attention of developers at Zoom, and they can get screensharing to work in their native app without resorting to browser mode or some virtual camera hack. My biggest gripe for sure.

e-brake··on Developers Guide to Moving to Denmark
Apparently if you decide to leave Denmark after 7 years as a tax resident, you may need to pay an exit tax, 'fraflytterskat' in Danish. I was surprised to hear about this. Have you heard of an exit tax, and is it something to also keep in mind for relocation?

> Exit taxation applies for individuals who have been considered as resident and tax treaty resident in Denmark, who are leaving Denmark with assets, including but not limited to shares, options, bonds, certain pension plans, certain property investments, etc.

> The rules apply to both Danish and foreign assets, shares, investment funds, financial contracts, deposit accounts, etc.

> If comprised by the exit tax rules, the assets, etc. comprised will be considered as realised on the date of departure, and the individual will be liable to pay the Danish tax due on this unrealised gain.

e-brake··on Canada has fewer entrepreneurs today than it did 20 years ago
I too have seen this as a past entrepreneur in Canada. A lot of accountants are in on misrepresenting SR&ED tax credit applications and will attempt to find the "research" in regular IT work. They will even do the technical writing and filing work for free, while taking a commission of the take when the tax credits roll in (free money). There is a whole segment of startups propped up by SR&ED. I've seen many doing innovative work with a sound business plan, using that money to get to profitability, and it's great they were able to get funding, but a lot of others milked the system fraudulently, using SR&ED consultants to continue to exist when they should have failed.
e-brake··on Virgin Boy Egg
I first heard about this on the wonderful Blindboy podcast, recent episode, "The Colonial History of Pumpkin Spice Lattes"

e-brake··on The Never Married, a New Normal
I can attest that this. There is no advantage to being married in BC (and many other places)

It's not because we are afraid of commitment, like this flimsy article suggests. We simply don't care about the symbolic ritual.

e-brake··on Europeans drain billions from banks, fed up with shrinking savings
Good. It isn't competitive for these big banks to continue to offer 0% interest rates!

In Portugal I landed on "Certificados de aforro" which gets you on the road to 3.5% on EUR, secured, with liquidity. Would love to see more daily savings options beyond risky fintech apps!

e-brake··on The Windows 11 Trash Party
Linux used to break down all the time when I used Ubuntu variants and Gnome. Either Nvidia drivers, distro upgrades, gnome configs going awry. Switching to KDE Plasma Desktop & openSUSE Tumbleweed, reliability has been 99.9999% SLA! There are immutable Linux distros too. Very reliable esp. with fs snapshots/rollback and rolling updates.

e-brake··on Ask HN: How are you using GPT to be productive?
For each cheesy training video, playwright opens the page, runs a timer, clicks an element to load the quiz page, copies the question and possible answers, and sends them to the GPT-4 API for the best possible solution, clicks on the element that was answered as the most likely solution, and repeats. Since these video/quizzes are recurring and terrible, it was worth automating
e-brake··on Ask HN: How are you using GPT to be productive?
For compliance, I have been using it to complete cheesy "security training" videos and quizzes that we are forced to watch in the organization for insurance purposes. The videos are so bad, the training is ineffective anyways. We used to load them all on mute at the same time every quarter, click through as fast as possible to get them out of sight, which is considered a metric for how valuable the videos are (how much we need to improve). ChatGPT usually gets it right! Hooked up to Playwrite.
e-brake··on This week in KDE: Wayland fractional scaling
This has been my experience as well: no problems screensharing except w/ Zoom native client due to their distro whitelist preventing screensharing under Wayland. A little irksome. Just let us try! Browser mode until then.
