eVeechu7··on Evidence of inconsistencies in evaluation process and selection of winners
I think some people don't realize the unreasonable amount of effort they are creating for their colleagues when they submit slop as work. I see this more with documentation than code.
eVeechu7··on Nvidia RTX Spark
What is GHCP in this context? Glasgow Haskell Compiler Platform? Google Hostage Computer Program?
eVeechu7··on Why TUIs are back
Is that because they are much more likely to pay the ultimate price at the hands of the OOM killer?
eVeechu7··on Wikipedia’s nonprofit status questioned by D.C. U.S. attorney
Comparing the choices of individuals with foreign diplomacy is specious. It is much harder for countries to have principles than individuals.
eVeechu7··on Knowing where your engineer salary comes from
Chief executives are so often transients.
eVeechu7··on Just Launched: PostPocket – Effortlessly Save and Organize Your Online Content
This looks like it might be good for people who post a lot on social media, to organise or recycle their content.
eVeechu7··on Order and orient the keys on your keychain
The article says "That's why I've spent way too long thinking about the optimal arrangement of keys on a keychain, to reduce egress time to a minimum.

If you need to find your keys to get out of your house, that's not ideal in an emergency. I think the author is talking about ingress, getting into one's home.

eVeechu7··on Phone maker Nothing: staff back into the office 5 days/week or quit
No. For me, since 2010 at least, it's been a negotiation in practice, if not in the written contract terms.
eVeechu7··on Stack Overflow users deleting answers after OpenAI partnership
It can't reliably cite its source for an answer.
eVeechu7··on Amazon CEO Andy Jassy violated labor law with union comments, NLRB rules
'It would be a shame if you were to join a union and something terrible happened...'
eVeechu7··on Bollards: Why and What
Very low compared to not bollards.
eVeechu7··on Apollo calls AI a 'bubble' worse than even the dotcom era
But who would substitute a no risk asset for a high risk one? This is a specious comparison.
eVeechu7··on The Mana World Classic – Open-Source MMORPG
Did you find any games to contribute to?
eVeechu7··on VirtualBox KVM Public Release
I thought virt manager was ok but honestly your complaints about it are specific and fair.
eVeechu7··on Tesla FSD Timeline
It's not he's still bullshitting that's remarkable, it's that people are still listening.
eVeechu7··on Fedora 39 Released
Sisyphus only has one rock to worry about.
eVeechu7··on As I retire, my goal now is to release 40+ years of source code
A little bit of advice like that is a tremendous blessing to those of us who just need to touch C occasionally.
eVeechu7··on Amazon PillPack – Your medication, sorted and delivered
Interesting claim about the vitamin D. Are you saying it's a placebo for diabetics?
eVeechu7··on Breakfast cereal is in long-term decline
I've got some home brand "100% wholegrain" oats here that say they contain 1g Sugars per 100g, less than half 1g per 40g shown in your table.

And even 1g per 40g is double 2g per 40g, not 'nutritionally identical'.

eVeechu7··on Global Google Kubernetes Engine Outage
Agree. The word outage isn't used in the notice. They say 'incident' which is more accurate. The title should be changed.
eVeechu7··on Opendream: A layer-based UI for Stable Diffusion
Models have been trained on something though. They are not analogous to pencils or brushes.
eVeechu7··on A Full Employment Recession – It's the Nightmare Scenario (SP500)

eVeechu7··on Introducing 'Trusted Publishers'
How can I self publish? With OIDC? I own my own domain, how do I get PyPI to trust it?
eVeechu7··on Ask HN: What Next After Ubuntu?
It runs as a user without the necessary permissions to access those devices?
eVeechu7··on Heavier cars are safer for their drivers, but far deadlier for everyone else
Is it really an inconvenience at all? Learn some patience.
eVeechu7··on Pepsi: Breathtaking Design Strategy (2008) [pdf]
There is plenty of diabetes and obesity in Australia and we don't use fructose as a sweetener. I'm not sure fructose is necessary.
eVeechu7··on Tell HN: Banned from LinkedIn for Reporting Wickr Drug Spam
Using LinkedIn is never a good deed.
eVeechu7··on Opendesktop.org – Libre Cloud Services
If there is continuing value to a community, that community will likely continue to fund it. That seems more future proof than venture capital or corporate largesse.
eVeechu7··on Containers are tents
>Finally, there’s the whole business of resource isolation. While cgroups are pretty neat as an isolation mechanism, they’re not hardware-level guarantees against noisy neighbors. Because cgroups were a later addition to the kernel, it’s not always possible to ensure they’re taken into account when making system-wide resource management decisions.

I don't think virtualization really offers hardware-level guarantees against noisy neighbours either.

eVeechu7··on Frugality Is Non-Linear (2019)
The author's observation that the effect of savings depends on the earnings rate is true, but if inflation outstrips the rate of earnings unfortunately it is still true.
