earbitscom··on ShowHN: We built this so you can send a mixtape to someone you like
Where will you get it when they shut this down?
earbitscom··on ShowHN: We built this so you can send a mixtape to someone you like
You could:

A) provide a disclaimer. "Hey, this isn't really a flirt tape, I just thought you would like these."

OR

B) stop being a nancy boy.

I can see it now...

Show HN: pclark listens to Miley Cyrus, A LOT.

earbitscom··on Buttons that morph out of the surface of the device.
A bummer. Now, that is classic.

I remember using public payphones just a little over a decade ago. One time some kids had put Vaseline on the earpiece. That was a fun time.

Now we have a phone in our pocket that we can talk to and have it do nearly anything. By next year, it will have buttons when we want and no buttons when we don't.

Vaseline on your ear is a bummer. This button-no-button stuff is not a bummer.

earbitscom··on Selling your company doesn’t make you happy
More zeroes, love or drugs won't make you happy. But all three together works pretty well.
earbitscom··on Obvious Goes Beyond Meat
Fair enough. I'm not saying eating anything vegetarian, no matter how processed, is good for you. Just clarifying that, in my opinion, avoiding meat if you can is healthier.
earbitscom··on Obvious Goes Beyond Meat
Vegetables are food. And even better still, they have zero cholesterol and basically provide much the same benefits without the bad side effects. Say what you want about the flip-flopping nature of nutrition trends, there is very little scientific data that shows that milk, cheese and red meat don't cause heart disease and other health concerns. Broccoli tends not to.
earbitscom··on Obvious Goes Beyond Meat
It really isn't that profound. People take sugar and turn it into Red Vines. They're shaped, flavored and textured to be more enjoyable. Frankly, the heartiness, saltiness and other qualities of meat are good, so if you can take ingredients and make them more like that, it's not that different from taking flour and making a cupcake shaped the way a cupcake always looks.
earbitscom··on Oh, the Places You'll Go
I always wondered if people like the guys in Led Zeppelin realized, as they were writing some of their most epic and timeless songs, that they were creating something as truly significant as they were. Perhaps when you're creating something as an individual, it's hard to know that you're doing something great as it happens. But I'm curious if it's the same when you're 4 people in a room and that "magic" happens that can only be experienced when you've found that fit with other creatives that results in something truly original and innovative. I feel like, on some level, in cases like that, they had to know.
earbitscom··on Groupon shares tumble to new low after lock-up expires
Let's keep in mind that they rejected a $6B buyout while they have constantly dumped shares every chance they get. There is a reasonable chance that they turned down the offer knowing that it would be easier to cover up shady accounting practices in their IPO than it would be during Google due-diligence.
earbitscom··on On Facebook, ‘Likes’ Become Ads
Thank you. Problem solved (until they change it).
earbitscom··on On Facebook, ‘Likes’ Become Ads
I had to email a friend the other day and let him know that Match.com ads were being displayed with his "endorsement" as a user.
earbitscom··on A Message from KPCB Partner, John Doerr
I am pulling these out of my 4$$ but all of the normal things you could get a bad review over would apply. A portfolio company's respected founders (basically, your client/customer) saying that a partner was difficult to work with, making poor suggestions, wasting time with questions they could get answers for elsewhere, or embarrassing them in meetings with important contacts, etc. Another partner saying that you are difficult to get along with, argumentative, do not do proper research, miss glaring information that demonstrates high risk in an investment, and so on.

Basically, doing a shitty job, being difficult to work with, ruining the firm's reputation, and/or making very bad investment decisions would be good ways to get a bad review.

earbitscom··on A Message from KPCB Partner, John Doerr
It is when it's sexual in nature and at work, which is what we're talking about here.
earbitscom··on Whistling Into a Tape Recorder: What the East Coast Doesn't Get About Startups
This is the best articulation I've read on this debate, which I usually find filled with arrogance and condescension. Our company is what it is today because of our technology team, but by the time we found them we had money in the bank, boxes on boxes of CDs from record labels, an amazing advisory board (most of whom we cold called), and a blog with thousands of readers. We had mockups, all of our licensing agreements, and the list goes onm. Being a founder is about doing what it takes, and it takes a lot more than just building technology.
earbitscom··on Now That's What I Call Social Proof
I think it's the latter, and there is definitely a possibility that it's a behavior in usage that makes the difference. But I don't think we should rule out that the HN crowd just likes to nitpick. ;)
earbitscom··on Now That's What I Call Social Proof
Because we haven't received a single complaint from users or seen any decline in the way people listen to or skip music since implementing that feature, and like 4 people here today complained about it. Not to mention, just generally there is a ton of new Feedbackify today complaining about things clearly for the sake of it.

Edit: One of the complaints is so golden that it's almost a blog post in itself, and the person said they came from HN.

earbitscom··on Now That's What I Call Social Proof
The site is about discovery and we find that people are more excited to stretch just beyond the genre they chose than they are to get only the songs that narrowly fit the exact description. Most peoples' complaints about Pandora are that it's too narrow and plays the same music too much. We will often put a song that has ambient (or funk, R&B) elements into the channel, even if it's not straight ambient, and the rating of the song in that channel is still strong.
earbitscom··on Now That's What I Call Social Proof
So funny how the HN crowd has such a hard time with this when regular users seem to be doing just fine. ;)
earbitscom··on Now That's What I Call Social Proof
We use FB for now, but you don't need an account in order to use the site as much as you want. You're only really missing out on social features anyway.
earbitscom··on Now That's What I Call Social Proof
Understood, Joe. Just keep in mind that you don't need an account to keep using the site as long as you want.
earbitscom··on Now That's What I Call Social Proof
Great feedback, almost all of which is in the works.
earbitscom··on Now That's What I Call Social Proof
Thanks, Matt. We have some technical reasons why we can't do that with the URL, or don't anyway. But if you want to share music in that manner, just click the tweet button and steal the URL from there.

Sorry about the volume issue. It happens so rarely that focusing on EQ hasn't been a priority.
