We are a product designer / developer duo from London. I'm happy to answer any questions that you have http://www.peeps.im
edgeman27··on Developing iOS apps with Swift
Who is your target audience for this presentation? It doesn't do enough to say 'why' someone should adopt Swift (and use your services), be them a developer or business owner.

Also, be careful - the first two slides might give the impression that in order to use the new features in iOS 8.0, one must adopt Swift (which isn't true). "Mapping Obj-C to Swift" contains some inaccuracies that may be clear when you give the presentation but written down don't make sense (e.g. "-" becoming "func").

edgeman27··on Ask HN: Freelance Client Capping me on Hours – how to handle?
If one party refuses to sign the contract that is a bad sign from day 0. What are their reasons for not signing it, out of interest?
edgeman27··on Ask HN: What do you do to blow off steam?
I play in a local competitive squash league. Best stress reliever I know of.
edgeman27··on Show HN: Peeps – Send selfie video messages to groups of friends
Hi there, co-founder here. With Peeps, you can start a conversation with a group of contacts without needing to know if they are already signed up. The phone numbers are used to let people know via SMS that you have sent them a video message, and they can view it online to verify that it is, indeed, you. Videos are saved on the server for this purpose and so that recipients can view the message when they log in.

edgeman27··on Jurassic Park computer system in the browser
I like the irony of the site telling me not to use Safari.
edgeman27··on Jurassic Park computer system in the browser
It's a Unix system. I know this.
edgeman27··on iPhone 5 with iOS 7 randomly shuts off
I had it happen thrice when I was skiing and never since I've been back.
edgeman27··on Here’s the HN post that Paul Graham, BDFL of Silicon Valley, won’t let me write.
It sounds like this business isn't making any money and will go bust shortly. I'd say not buying it would be a good idea.
edgeman27··on 8pen + Leap Motion
I think the promotional video should show something a little more useful than air-writing. One could have typed (or spoken) the same text in a fraction of the time. How about drawing or painting?
edgeman27··on To all freelancers out there: 8 ways to an easy life
I was surprised that this article didn't use referral codes.
edgeman27··on Lunch and dinner with Julian Assange, in prison
He is not in prison. He is not "the most wanted man in the world". I stopped reading at that point.
edgeman27··on Ask HN: Freelancer? Seeking freelancer? (February 2013)
SEEKING FREELANCER - London - Remote work only

iOS game dev, cocos2D

I am an iOS dev based in London with a client who has a requirement for a basic, mathematics-based children's 2D game on iPhone. I'd like to work with another freelancer who has a good portfolio of Cocos2D based games. Ideally UK based.

edgeman27··on The most underrated Objective-C Class
I recently changed an image cache in one of my projects to use NSCache instead of NSMutableDictionary. I found that when my application was sent to the background (even for a few seconds), the cache was cleared and the images had to be reloaded on resume. This was not suitable for my application since the initial image request was costly, so I went back to the initial NSMutableDictionary implementation.
edgeman27··on SOAP vs REST for webservices
UPnP is based on SOAP
edgeman27··on No bullshit guide to math and physics
I don't think that there is a need for the liberal use of swearing in a mathematics book ("shit" appears 5 times in your sample PDF alone, two of which are in the title). In my opinion, it makes it sound very amateur and unprofessional.

> "Check this shit out:"

Could be "Consider this example:"

Now for something even more interesting. Using your...

edgeman27··on Nokia 'Here Map' arrives at the App Store
Agreed. The entire map view (including location dot, paths and markers) seems to be rendered in half resolution on Retina devices.

Public transport in London seems to work very well, and the Underground overlay is a nice feature. I will be using this for the time being.

Don't risk it, get a lawyer. The last thing you want is to create a recognised brand only to have to change the name because you saved some money by not checking.
edgeman27··on My KickStarter Project: A Low Cost AirPlay Receiver
At this price, I'd question whether this is using the hacked Airplay encryption key that was posted on the internet. I can't see Apple being to happy about losing sale on AppleTVs because of this device.
edgeman27··on The simplest way to create a beautiful landing page for your iPhone app
I like it. Something to note - the confirmation e-mail has a from name of "hi", which went straight into my spam folder. You should think about changing that to something a little more descriptive.

on that note - "hobbie" should also be "hobby"

For their sake I hope that they don't launch with that icon.
edgeman27··on Applescript is Not dead
So, are you saying that any features not offered in one OS but offered in another OS should be free, regardless of the development required?
