erfgh··on The Goose Programming Language
So it's not faster than C++, it's faster than whatever you deem "reasonable C++". I think you should clearly state that.
erfgh··on Switzerland. Block by block. At 1:1 scale
I think whether it requires a lot of work is not the most important factor. The important factor is how easy it is to replace it. If it was made with AI I expect it to be easily copiable with AI. Therefore it doesn't make much sense to spend a lot, if any, money on it.
erfgh··on The Goose Programming Language
How can you claim Goose is faster than C++, i.e. faster than the language whose subset (i.e. C) it compiles to?
erfgh··on Disney Raising Prices Days After Confirming Ads Will Now Show Up on Every Tier
It's not easy to calculate how much you are worth because it depends on so many factors. And it wouldn't be nice to charge you 10x more than what they charge someone else.
erfgh··on Someone behind the software
> If you submit a LLM written article to a website/paper in 1990, no one would say that it is a technically poor piece of writing.

If it was one or two paragraphs, maybe. But a full article is very tiring to read and almost always goes nowhere or goes round-and-round.

erfgh··on Someone behind the software
Can llms even play chess? Last time I tried they were making nonsensical illegal moves (for example, moving non-existent pieces).
erfgh··on Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men
That's great advice but still you can be replaced by younger people that also left software for a hands-on job.
erfgh··on Suicide rates highest ever among middle-aged men
Kids will not always be kids.
erfgh··on Redesigning source control at Anthropic
Because they are not good at investing.
erfgh··on Firefox Enterprise
"Half the sites" is a huge overstatement. I very rarely find sites that do not work on Firefox.
erfgh··on DraftKings is using AI to behaviorally target chronic gamblers
They will just switch to a betting exchange model where the house gets a percentage of the turnover and the rest is distributed to the players. Under this model there is no incentive to ban winners.
erfgh··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
App submissions are up but what about revenue?
erfgh··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
If there are very few humans that can do this is because the market for such a task is very small and thus there is little incentive to learn how to do it or produce tools that can do it.
erfgh··on What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks
You better don't look into how banks created your savings by creating loans that were used to invest into companies and thus pay salaries.
erfgh··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
Deciding not to have a child also impacts your future. You might change your mind in the future and be unable to have a child or have other health problems that make raising a child difficult. You might reach old(er) age and be alone. Regrets are a thing.
erfgh··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
The problem is that AI writing uses a pretty distinctive style and when you read a whole newspaper that was written or edited by AI it is very monotonous. Also, I can't really trust it because I know that the author probably phoned in his fact-checking.
erfgh··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
There's nothing you can really walk back from. Time flows one-way.
erfgh··on As AI eats the web, the internet’s collective memory is disappearing
AI has killed reading-anything-written-after-AI for me. Due to this effect it is probably the worst invention in human history or pre-history.
erfgh··on UEFA and its national associations will not participate in FIFA competitions
What's wrong with making billions? Will this hurt the game somehow?
erfgh··on Netflix employee fired for sharing personal details in retreat trust exercise
> I think most people think of it as a free vacation.

It's not free if the company is paying for it.

erfgh··on Most arguments are about ego, not ideas
The whole article is AI slop.
erfgh··on Why current LLM costs are not sustainable
They are subsidized by the huge losses incurred by the AI companies.
erfgh··on DuckDuckGo search saw 28% more visits after Google said people love AI mode
For those that don't know, DDG already has an AI mode: duck.ai
erfgh··on AI is wiping out entry-level jobs
The whole article feels like AI slop.
erfgh··on Vibe coding and agentic engineering are getting closer than I'd like
Where does this certainty that LLMs will get more intelligent stem from?
erfgh··on AI should elevate your thinking, not replace it
Even if AI does automate some jobs (or even most of them) then people doing them will just do something else. It's not like the world has a limited demand of computer code.
erfgh··on AI should elevate your thinking, not replace it
If the complexity of your mathematical problems was down to arithmetic then your problems were not at all complex.
erfgh··on Scores decline again for 13-year-old students in reading and mathematics (2023)
This is like asking "why having a car does not make you run faster".
erfgh··on Scores decline again for 13-year-old students in reading and mathematics
Covid, smartphones/screens, social media, AI have an enormous impact on the students. A slight school defunding (if it really exists, which I doubt) cannot compare.
erfgh··on US and Iran agree to provisional ceasefire
I hate bombing as much as the next guy but areas close to military structures, especially to ones that have already been bombed during the last 24 hours, should have been evacuated.
