ericz··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2018)
Software Engineer | Scalable Press | San Francisco, CA | Salary range: $105k+ depending on experience + options | Onsite |

Hey HN, Eric Zhang here, formerly YC W11, current CTO @ Scalable Press. I’m posting because we are bootstrapped and profitable, and we’re hiring software engineers. We're hiring engineers for our warehouse automation team. To give you an idea of what you’d do: one engineer on our team integrated with a large vendor of ours so we can run our own trucks to avoid UPS shipping costs.

Our stack is Node, React, and Mongo. Our team is currently 15 engineers (with 5 on the warehouse eng team).

Interested? Email me at ericzhang@scalablepress.com

PS: We're also hiring engineering managers

ericz··on How Lever (YC S12) Got to 50–50 Women and Men
To be fair the article is not about an "obsession with an even split" at all. It's about Lever's practices to promote diversity and inclusion.

PS We're also hiring a lead product designer, head of marketing, and a software engineer with a focus on warehouse automation software. If you're into industrial processes, I would be happy to show you our 4 warehouses.

We posted in the May thread too and have already made a hire from HN! Just wanted to share the good news.

ericz··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (May 2016)
Thanks! Feel free to apply even if you don't have experience with our stack. We've hired engineers who didn't know JS/Node, but picked it up easily and made great contributions.

ericz··on Lily – Drone camera
That is one of the first videos I've seen in a long time where I've thought "wow we can do that now?"
ericz··on [dead]
A couple days ago we were posted on HN here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8353485 and we learned that people wanted shirts with actual code! (despite, in my opinion, more aesthetically pleasing blocks design) so in the spirit of iterating quickly, we've added support for actually printing the code on the shirt :).
ericz··on Show HN: Gmail Thread Splitting
Bravo. Ignore the haters who haven't run into thread issues and thus believe no one else can possibly run into these issues. "Just change the subject!" Clearly these people have never sent a bulk email, or considered the fact that others may use email differently from them. Really tired of this mentality of "I don't have complete information but I think I'm great thus I'm just going to assume you are clueless".
ericz··on An Empirical Evaluation of TCP Performance in Online Games
If you're a web game developer reading this you should also know that WebSockets, XHR, and anything built on top of those technologies (socket.io etc.) are TCP based. Only WebRTC DataChannels and flash are able to do UDP based communication in the browser.
ericz··on Comprehend (YC W11) Raises $8.4M Led by Sequoia to Lower Clinical Trial Costs
Congrats guys!
ericz··on Worst CAPTCHA Ever
You know, maybe it's because they just wanted to slow down legitimate users for some reason, and spam wasn't a big problem. Ok I'm just trying to be optimistic.
ericz··on Show HN: Transfer files between computers using WebRTC
WebRTC encrypts by default and you have to manually edit the SDP to turn it off. I highly doubt the developer went to the lengths to do that.
ericz··on Show HN: Transfer files between computers using WebRTC
Here's one my friends (and I) are building, including a live demo: http://demo.peerkit.com/static/index_demo.html
ericz··on Show HN: Transfer files between computers using WebRTC
It's true that it supports binary / reliable transport already but there are some very annoying not-to-spec issues. As a library developer, if I added code to support it, it would just go to waste because in BugZilla they've already patched but not pushed changes to these issues.
ericz··on Show HN: Load this image from a peer rather than from a web server (open source)
Check mark means image loaded. Color indicates source. Sorry for bad UX. I was lazy and didn't find a good UTF symbol for X.

It's using the https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/DOM/window.URL.crea... API to get data on page, so not slow and inefficient like data urls

ericz··on [dead]
it's not at all. we've been working on the same thing essentially
ericz··on WebRTC DataChannels just hit Chrome stable
One nice thing is that all data channels are encrypted DTLS by default
ericz··on LivingSocial: Employees' and Founders' Common Stock Now Worthless
Perhaps I'm missing something here -- people criticize group deal sites for taking too much of the money in a deal (50% of the revenue). The marginal cost for LivingSocial on this is 0... why aren't they making tons of money? Where has the near $1 billion dollars gone?
ericz··on LivingSocial: Employees' and Founders' Common Stock Now Worthless
Can someone speak to the reliability of this site? Or provide a corroborating source?
ericz··on U.S. CEO to France: ‘How Stupid Do You Think We Are?’
This isn't even correlation, since when did insulting the french correlate to a rise/fall in stock prices?
ericz··on PeerJS — True peer-to-peer data in the browser
ICE/STUN (which is used by WebRTC and thus PeerJS) support NAT traversal in all cases but a pair of symmetric NATs, which means some single digit percentage of connections will not work. For those cases, WebRTC/PeerJS support using a TURN server which proxies the data, not ideal but it allows the library to work.
ericz··on PeerJS — True peer-to-peer data in the browser
It's in the works!
ericz··on Location sharing app Moby launches Android version
I'm glad there is still innovation in this space despite how Google Latitude floundered.
ericz··on Glitch Is Closing
A startup with a webpage offering employees for hire as opposed to hiring employees? http://www.glitch.com/hire-a-genius/ What a strange sight.
ericz··on Zynga May Have Just Laid Off 100+ Employees From Its Austin Office
I don't know why everyone is so critical of Zynga trying to hide this news among the Apple stories -- what is the argument for not doing so? "Hey guys, lets make sure EVERYONE hears that we're closing down offices and laying off employees, this is going to be important"

Would you have acted differently?
