erik_p··on Show HN: Audio plugin for circuit-bent MP3 compression sounds
Love what OP has created and is releasing free (thank you!)

Did want to point out some other cheap/free bitcrushers out there for people to try (in addition to MAIM)

https://www.deniseaudio.com/plugins/my-crush is currently free with newsletter sub and was super cheap when I first purchased it.

Some other free vst of note https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2012/03/09/bpb-freeware-stu...

I also like https://camelcrusher.com/

erik_p··on I bought a CO2 monitor and it broke me
If only there was something you could keep in your apartment that consumes CO2...

Wouldn't that environment be VST?

Totally worth seeing live
erik_p··on Steerable discovery of neural audio effects
That was brilliant, thanks.
erik_p··on Steerable discovery of neural audio effects
While I'd like that to be true, I'm skeptical of that outcome from streaming normalization alone.

All I see in production forums is how can I make my mix louder?

You can blow by Spotify's lufs recommendation, the normalizing just knocks you down, thereby squashing your mix further (even less dynamic range)

erik_p··on Steerable discovery of neural audio effects
They should nickname this "clone-a-tone"

erik_p··on Taking apart the 2010 Fisher Price re-released Music Box Record Player
Glitch musicians would like a word.

Maybe you mean digital. As electronic toys can still be modified/screwed with.

erik_p··on Show HN: Low-latency jamming over the internet
Well you get that there a need for it, and people are trying to find solutions to overcome the issue of latency, that's the whole point, isn't it?
erik_p··on Trevor Moore has died
Why did they change it?
erik_p··on Google Workspace for everyone
This makes me miss Google Wave... Are they iframing in spreadsheets with a slack clone?
erik_p··on Goodbye IFTTT
I'm still annoyed they don't support facebook groups :/
erik_p··on Ask HN: How Can I Learn Music Theory?
Andrew Huang's Music Theory in 30 minutes is a pretty good starting point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgaTLrZGlk0
erik_p··on Ask HN: How to remove voice from a music file?
It can do a pretty impressive job, it does help to use high quality source material. Using mp3 rips from youtube might get a little more artifact-y. sometimes, vocal like instruments will get pulled into the vocal rip instead of the "karaoke" instrument part of the extract.

erik_p··on Ask HN: Does anyone still use IRC?
/me nope ;)
erik_p··on The Organ of the Universe: On Living with Tinnitus
wait, what's the ATA warning about tinnitracks? On the surface seems like a good idea to me... but couldn't find reference to it good or bad on the ATA site.
erik_p··on How to Get 100/100 Google Page Speed Score with Middleman and Nginx
my recollection is that it decompresses fine/performantly, let me see if I can dig up an article.

erik_p··on How to Get 100/100 Google Page Speed Score with Middleman and Nginx
what about Zopfli/brotli?

Gzip compression benefits taper off in benefit after the "7" setting, IIRC. Brotli at higher settings compresses better, but you'd want to do it static as opposed to on the fly (at higher/highest settings)

erik_p··on Website load and speed analyzer
Many of these recommendations are at odds with HTTP/2 recommendations, practices.

erik_p··on Performance and Speed Optimizations of WordPress [pdf]
There is still a need for a ucache (in addition to built in opcode cache)... although a lot of high traffic WP sites are turning to redis over memcache for this.
erik_p··on Wait ages for a bus and then two come along at once
At least with SF Muni the bunching of busses issue is more human/contractual/process related.

When the bus runs late (because stuff happens) and thereby completes it's route late and turns around, and is basically right up against the "next" bus... they send them both out BECAUSE the thought of paying a muni worker to wait for 10 minutes to create a sane space between busses is unthinkable in a penny wise, results foolish budgeting process.
