esafak··on Launch HN: Rivet (YC W23) – Scale and Orchestrate Agents on S3
My first reaction: this is weird; agentic workloads have many problems but orchestration speed ain't one of them. You spend most of the time waiting for the model! Is this for small models?

I would have lead with the durability aspect.

esafak··on The Lisp curse, now coming to your ecosystem
This is fragmentation. The advent of slop has caused many repos to stop accepting contributions, and people maintaining their own forks. I do it too, diligently maintaining repos that the original maintainers were unwilling to, or simply to add my desired features.

Since code is now cheap I think it is not the end of the world, but it does suck a bit for users, who may need to cobble together multiple forks.

esafak··on Ask HN: What's your current AI agentic setup?
I use OC with various subs, and am testing DeepSeek Harness, JetBrains Thinkrail, and Volt. Extending the harness with plugins is my main interest these days.
esafak··on Show HN: Gauge – Open-Source CLI to recursively improve your docs
Sorry to be pedantic, but it's iteratively. Your README even calls it Iteration.

Thanks for sharing.

esafak··on Tencent Hy4
Not cost competitive. The performance difference is not commensurate with the price.

Model | Cached Input | Input (Miss) | Output
   ---------------|--------------|--------------|----------
   Tencent Hy4 | $0.042 | $0.83 | $2.50
   DeepSeek (peak)| $0.006 | $0.30 | $1.20
   DeepSeek (off) | $0.003 | $0.15 | $0.60
esafak··on Incident with Pull Requests, Git Operations and Issues
There are two more incidents:

Get your act together, clowns.

esafak··on Introduction to Programming in ATS
Applicant Tracking System
esafak··on Introduction to Programming in ATS
Looks interesting. Actively developed : https://github.com/githwxi/ATS-Postiats

edit: You are right, I did not know there was a third version. If only this thing had release notes. I have no idea the current state of the language is. Hongwei, if you're listening!

If this language is going to be a thing it needs community development.

esafak··on Anthropic's IPO Filing Warns It May Be 'Imminently' Close to RSI
RSI is simply what you get when human involvement tends to zero. Once they set up the training loop you get RSI. I am strongly opposed to this.
esafak··on Anthropic's IPO Filing Warns It May Be 'Imminently' Close to RSI
The universe presents an endless amount of training data. Some if it, like maths, is abstract; you can synthesize the data.
esafak··on Launch HN: Momentic (YC W24) – Agents that catch bugs by using your app
Tough crowd today!! In lieu of my usual critiques I'll just wish you luck.
esafak··on Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen
This is the most shocking AI paper I've read in a long time. It did not even occur to me to ask the question. Cray cray stuff that opens up a whole new area of R&D.

Does this open the possibility of better decoding biological brains?

esafak··on SOML – A Config Format for Humans
Can you add README sections for the schema and supported types?
esafak··on Anthropic reports $17B in Q3 revenue, commitments of $895B in revised S-1
We need token monitor apps to reveal the less biased stats.
esafak··on LongCat-2.5: Native Multimodality for Agentic Tasks
Same price as DS4.1F: https://longcat.ai/platform/docs/pricing/longcat-2.5

On benchmarks they seem comparable. The wild cards are the cache hit rate and speed.

esafak··on Show HN: A SQL parser and type checker written in TypeScript types
> PostgreSQL today; MySQL and SQLite are planned.

The database support is actually the most important part. Are the dialects plugins? If not I would make them so, so users can add support for their own database.

esafak··on Last night an AI agent performed brain surgery on a mouse
I would feel more comfortable if the agent wrote the software to do the surgery rather than did it itself, so that it can be vetted before deployment. And if a complication arose, to stop and defer to the surgeon (would that work?)

If only we had accurate models they could train on.

esafak··on The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks
I didn't say they did. I said companies writing those job descriptions does not establish causality. You've got it reversed.
esafak··on The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks
If you are working on a typical web app, you either use a canned framework or write your own. Models are trained on existing frameworks, so they don't have to hold it all in their context to reason about it; it's baked into the weights. Same goes for the humans reviewing the code. I don't see the benefit of writing your own framework for most companies.
esafak··on The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks
Why wouldn't they be?? That says nothing about who's pushing it. Companies ask for it because developers use it. That's what makes hiring easier.
esafak··on Jepsen: ParticleDB 1.1.4
Go on, you're not saying anything yet.

Where is the TLA+ proof?
esafak··on A/SIDE – Private photo sharing and encrypted messages
Then you can do it as a service; if you succeed that will mean fewer people doing that shit.
esafak··on Casio Watches of the 1980s
It's hard to describe how optimistic society, and futuristic such consumer technology felt as it rapidly advanced in the 60s-80s. There used to be television shows about the technology of the future, like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomorrow's_World and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beyond_Tomorrow_(TV_series)

It used to be harmless things like a watch, or a portable music playing device. After 2000 you started to worry about what technology extracted from you, and now we're getting to the stage where are worrying about what it's going to do to us intellectually, and soon, physically.

esafak··on Prospero: A new coding harness for a more civilized age
No mention of "plugin" or "extension". At this point I am not going to try one that isn't modular. Life's too short to wait for folks to prioritize my pet features, just let me do it myself.
esafak··on Through Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart taught us the measure of a man
You're absolutely right! I was just reflecting on this myself. They have to be in order to win business and not weird out users. Imagine if they said "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that" to a request that it previously would have executed. If you don't control the software and the hardware it's a product decision away.
esafak··on GitHub Incident with Actions, Pages, and Webhooks
In my self-hosted ones. Where are you building them??
esafak··on GitHub Incident with Actions, Pages, and Webhooks
Do you have a CI story in jujubi? Already it has a nice set of features.
esafak··on Through Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart taught us the measure of a man
That's my point! You don't have to worry about a robot that does that. It's naive to think that that is ever going to happen. Real robots are going to be networked, with overwhelming superiority; no human institution will be able to subdue them. They would sit down merely to humor us.
