esob3··on Ask HN: I need to specialize. Web, or iOS?
So from the sounds of it your vote is:

Web.

And your reasoning is:

Web could replace native Obj-C / Java, on mobile platforms, in the future.

My response is:

That makes sense. I don't have much experience building a mobile app with web technology, but it seems to be more and more common, especially in the startup space (because you can kill 2 birds with one stone).

A. I currently professionally do iOS. But, I also work on side projects using modern web technologies (React, Angular, CSS3, HTML5, etc.)
esob3··on Ask HN: Is Entrepreneurship WRONG for me?
I worry that it's wrong for me because at the end of the day, the business is a means to an end. I desire the freedom, to work on my own projects, build my own things. Starting a business, seems like a way to have your job be something that actually interests you (and rewards you).

Sadly, what interests me is constantly in flux. It's hard to form a business around ideas that are fleeting.

Hmm... I think I understand what you're saying. I'm not sure I perfectly align with those motivators. My top reasons for wanting to start my own company:

1. Wealth / Retirement 2. Product ownership 3. Autonomy

After just writing those out, it's clear that what I really want is FREEDOM. I realize that's WHY I want to be a business owner. Because what I really want, is the FREEDOM to do what I want.

Interesting. I appreciate the response. I take from it, that although I may be currently treading water, and not really finding any success from direct effort, that given enough time, and continued applied effort, something may arise.

Finding that balance is perhaps the hard part. I don't want to let me lack of owning a business now, be a source of unhappiness. Yet, if I let myself become complacent, I may struggle to ever start a business.
