exac··on IBM CEO says open weight models are now good and cheap on-prem
Respectfully, those people don't work at IBM anymore. The organizational memory doesn't last that long.
exac··on Ephemeral Testing
We use NX in our monorepo, and it is great at determining which testing/linting tasks need to be run based on which libraries in the repo were "affected". We have a bunch of e2e tests, and I've been having a lot of success getting Claude with Opus to run only the relevant e2e tests when appropriate during development.
exac··on GitHub Is Experiencing Difficulties
Our deployments are triggered by GitHub Actions, and it is a pain to deploy without it (specifically collecting the credentials and putting them into variables the shell will read).

This is multiple times this month that this has been a problem.

Has GitHub completed it's internal migration to Azure yet? Or is it still ongoing? None of our devs want to switch away from GH, but we will have to at this point.

exac··on Apple engineer says he was fired after refusing to send cust. device IDs to AT&T
Think Different™ now means selling out you.
exac··on How real are real numbers? (2004)
> According to Pythagoras everything is number, and God is a mathemati- cian. This point of view has worked pretty well throughout the development of modern science. However now a neo-Pythagorian doctrine is emerging, according to which everything is 0/1 bits, and the world is built entirely out of digital information. In other words, now everything is software, God is a computer programmer, not a mathematician, and the world is a giant information-processing system, a giant computer [Fredkin, 2004, Wolfram, 2002, Chaitin, 2005]

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ For some reason I get the same vibe from this as people referring to LLM inference using gendered pronouns instead of "it".

exac··on Elevated errors on Claude Opus 5
Déjà vu.
exac··on Did my old job only exist because of fraud?
Fraud aside, I think a more common thought among developers is

> Did my old job only exist because the Product Owners didn't realize we didn't have product-market fit?

exac··on Lore – Open source version control system designed for scalability
I tried your website, but it just says "LOADING".
exac··on Angular v22
primitive
exac··on Rewrite Bun in Rust has been merged
Based on the use of "≥" and em-dashes, I'd say this markdown file was written with or by an LLM.
exac··on How can Apple deal with the memory shortage?
Yes
exac··on An update on recent Claude Code quality reports
It is more useful to read posts and threads like this exact thread IMO. We can't know everything, and the currently addressed market for Claude Code is far from people who would even think about caching to begin with.
exac··on Decisions that eroded trust in Azure – by a former Azure Core engineer
At one startup I was in, Azure sales proactively reached out to the CEO on LinkedIn and then we were urged to swap off to it.
exac··on Ubuntu 26.04 Ends 46 Years of Silent sudo Passwords
Could we not have used braille patterns? Start on a random one and you can just replace the character with the next one so it is possible for the user to see something was entered, but password length isn't given to someone looking over the user's shoulder?

exac··on No leap second will be introduced at the end of June 2026
No they do not teach Scientific Realism in schools. We're taught the scientific method and then build upon that.

I can see how someone could misunderstand or forget what they're taught though.

exac··on Manjaro website off-line again due to lapsed certificate
Respectfully we have had Certbot for 11 years now.
exac··on Things Unix can do atomically (2010)
Sorry, there is zero chance I will ever deploy new code by changing a symlink to point to the new directory.
exac··on Show HN: Elo ranking for landing pages
How do you add a new page?
exac··on Command-line Tools can be 235x Faster than your Hadoop Cluster (2014)
This. It is resume-driven development. Especially at startups where the engineers aren't compensated well enough or don't believe the produce can succeed.
exac··on jQuery 4
As someone who doesn't use React, there is React Native (for iOS & Android), and React (and that can be server-rendered or client-rendered).
exac··on Nvidia to buy assets from Groq for $20B cash
In my career I've seen startups "shut down" and lay off the NA team.

I've seen venture capital acquire startups for essentially nothing laying off the entire product team aside from one DevOps engineer to keep everything running. I've seen startups go public and have their shares plummet to zero before the rank-and-file employees could sell any shares (but of course the executives were able to cash out immediately). I've seen startups acquired for essentially nothing from the lead investor.

In none of these scenarios did any of the Engineers receive anything for their shares.

Yet every day people negotiate comp where shares are valued as anything more than funny money.

exac··on Claude Code gets native LSP support
The only reason I paid my yearly JetBrains subscription this year was to keep my lower price locked-in. I've been using VS Code all year. I won't renew my JetBrains subscription that I've had since 2009. Sad.
exac··on Ask HN: Who uses open LLMs and coding assistants locally? Share setup and laptop
I thought you would just use another computer in your house for the flows?

My development flow takes a lot of RAM (and yes I can run it minimally editing in the terminal with language servers turned off), so I wouldn't consider running the local LLM on the same computer.

exac··on Nine things I learned in ninety years
> Another old person thinking they figured out life

I didn't get this impression at all.

exac··on Introducing Stargate UK
It isn't "sovereign" if the parent organization is controlled by a foreign company.
exac··on Samsung taking market share from Apple in U.S. as foldable phones gain momentum
I know less than ten people with foldable phones, but without fail they all claim that the screen is durable, but I have yet to see any foldable phone without a cracked screen after a few years.
exac··on Type checking is a symptom, not a solution
> The standard answer is scale. “Small programs don’t need types,” the reasoning goes, “but large programs become unmaintainable without them.”

This is not accepted wisdom at all.

exac··on How I use Tailscale
All the dev servers I've used over the past 10 years come with warnings that they're not security hardened, so I'd be wary of using `tailscale funnel` even though it is awesome to share like that so easily.
exac··on Thomas Aquinas – The world is divine
This is no knee jerk reaction my friend, the author is capitalizing "he" when referring to the Christian god.
