farmerstan··on Twitter plans to comply with Musk’s demands for data
And yet there are federal disclosure laws that you must disclose like lead otherwise you are liable. So again you just proved yourself wrong.

And yes, nothing protects a company from not disclosing material information regardless of “due diligence”, including fraud. So give it up.

farmerstan··on Twitter plans to comply with Musk’s demands for data
Yes but if they don’t disclose problems they are on the hook for it no matter if they sell it as-is.
farmerstan··on Twitter plans to comply with Musk’s demands for data
See, you have proven your own ignorance with your example!

When you buy a home, even if you waive all contingencies, including a home inspection, if the seller fails to disclose material problems with the house, the sellers will be liable. This liability extends for years past the close of sale.

So you accidentally gave a perfect counter example as to why you are wrong.

farmerstan··on San Francisco votes overwhelmingly to recall progressive DA Chesa Boudin
It would take more than invading a building to take over the US. Give me a break. So much delusional thinking. You probably thought all that be about Trump and Russia was true as well even though it was proven to be all fake.
farmerstan··on San Francisco votes overwhelmingly to recall progressive DA Chesa Boudin
The idea that Trump could have successfully usurped power is truly deranged. He couldn’t. Period.

January 6th was terrible but it was in no way anywhere close to being a real threat to democracy. To insist that it was is delusional.

farmerstan··on San Francisco votes overwhelmingly to recall progressive DA Chesa Boudin
The biggest mistake he and Democrats keep making is blaming “billionaire Republicans”. It’s not Republicans it’s Democrats voting him out.

He either refuses to acknowledge that the Democrat voters themselves are rejecting his policies out of hubris or it’s a way to shame democrats by accusing them of acting like Republicans. But it didn’t work and only infuriated and calcified anti-Boudin people even more.

Democrats at the federal level better take heed. If San Francisco who is overwhelmingly Democrat will reject extreme progressive policies like Boudin’s, hopefully it means the Dems can regain some sense of rationality.

My friends and I have all made a pact that we will vote Republican until the Dems come more to the center, no matter how horrible the Republicans candidate is. That’s the only way we can change behavior is through voting, and in CA they have come to take voters for granted for decades and left California a progressive experiment gone off the rails to the point of lunacy.

farmerstan··on Tell HN: I used the same computer since 2007 (with minor upgrades)
I’ve been using my windows 7 desktop from 2012 until the beginning of this year. I had no particular need to upgrade but thought what the hell why not. I could have happily continued using it for the next few years. In fact I didn’t dismantle it and am now compiling on it.
farmerstan··on Musk SEC Filing
You don’t have to send the databases over to comply. You can give on-premises access to your data to Musk representatives and let me make their own queries to satisfy themselves. It’s not hard.
farmerstan··on Musk SEC Filing
I disagree. I think it’s the opposite, Twitter should be providing this data and it’s pretty straightforward. Not providing it or pretending to provide it seems like a way to get out of the sale but leaving open a way to sue him for breach of the sale.
farmerstan··on Musk SEC Filing
Why is Twitter not providing this data? It’s a straightforward request and it’s not like he would disclose it publicly. It feels like Twitter is trying to get out of the sale by using loopholes, this is very strange.
farmerstan··on Sr Manager at Google Resigns After Dalit Activist Disallowed from Giving Lecture
Indians can tell based on looks, skin color, how they talk, etc. One of my close friends is Indian and you can definitely make a pretty good guess based on a factor of all of these.
farmerstan··on Tesla to Cut 10% of Jobs
It was proven through data that most people at yahoo that were “working from home” weren’t working. It was indisputable.
farmerstan··on Ask HN: Favourite open source game?
I’ve been playing nethack for almost 40 years now, when it was called “hack” and it ran on 2 floppy disks.
farmerstan··on Sheryl Sandberg stepping down as Facebook COO
If you listen to Lex Friedman, he said the thing that surprised him the most about mark zuckerberg when he met him was his overwhelming humanity and compassion. He said that part of him never comes through the media, but when he interacted with him he said it was undeniable how humane and compassionate he was.
farmerstan··on Building a Budget Homelab NAS Server
As it gets bigger and bigger to me the only thing that makes sense is getting another nas and replicating that way.
farmerstan··on Building a Budget Homelab NAS Server
I think using 1 disk redundancy is a mistake. It’s not only physical failure you’re worried about, it’s an error upon rebuild when you lose a drive. Bit rot on your remaining drives can occur which wouldn’t be detected until rebuild time when you lose a drive, and that could cause you to lose your entire volume. Bit rot can be checked for but you can’t always be sure and with larger and larger sets of data it gets slower to do.

I use raid 6 and also backup my data externally to another nas as well as backup to a static usb drive. Backup requires multiple different types since failures are so catastrophic and can occur in ways you don’t expect.

farmerstan··on Poll: How are you doing currently?
I didn’t mean an extended break. I meant a break like a long weekend where you try not to think about it. Bra does like that at help clear your mind if possible.

The biggest things is stop feeling like a failure. That causes a negative feedback loop that will continue a pattern of bad decisions making. Forgive yourself and Clear your head.

farmerstan··on Poll: How are you doing currently?
Failing as a person is if you betray your friends, if you kick someone who is already down, taking advantage of people, etc. THAT is failing as a person.

You are not failing as a person. Do not define your self-worth as you having a job or money. You are going through hard times. Everyone goes through hard times. That doesn’t mean you are failing as a person.

Take a short break from job hunting and pick it back up again. You tying your self worth to your job may be what’s causing undue stress thsts making it harder on you. It’s a job. It’s not who you are as a person. Understanding that even if you get a shitty job that pays the bills, it doesn’t decrease your value. Get any job you can, just use it as a breather, collect your emotions and thoughts and when you feel better level up to a new job.

farmerstan··on Poll: How are you doing currently?
I think the answer to education is to break up large schools and have schools that are no larger than 100-150 kids in total. 10x the number of schools and have individual attention to kids and teachers both. Fire the bad teachers quickly. Have larger communal facilities for things like sports and more outdoor activities like a form of scouts.

The best thing about Apple Maps is the “at the next stop sign, turn right”. That is a wonderful way to navigate!
farmerstan··on Tech Industry Warns That More Remote-Work Jobs Are Headed Out of U.S.
In the 1990s there was zero talk of outsourcing. It was early to mid-2000s where it started.
farmerstan··on Ask HN: Teach a 5-year-old math and science over the summer?
I did something almost exactly the same when my kids were ~3. They picked up addition and subtraction really quickly by using their fingers and even understood negative numbers before the age of 4.

We home schooled during the pandemic and the amount they learned in one year was incredible. Tailoring the curriculum per kid was extremely effective but not sustainable so now they are back in a private school but they enjoy the social aspect much better.

farmerstan··on Dutch digital identity system crisis
Your assumption would be wrong. They were never asked their age and even if they were they would know to ask me what to do because I told them that they would get locked out if they put in the wrong numbers. And as expected they can no longer post to YouTube for some reason even though there are plenty of YouTubers below 13.
farmerstan··on Dutch digital identity system crisis
The issue isn’t with the registration, which is another issue altogether. It’s with them tracking the behavior somehow and then deducing their age to such confidence that they threatened to delete their account in 14 days. It wasn’t a guess.

And yet they are so fallible in their other forms of detection like fraud that lock people out of their accounts. The entire thing is creepy and maddening at the same time.

farmerstan··on Dutch digital identity system crisis
Google just forced me to identify myself through credit card because it threatened to delete one of my kids’ gmail accounts. Somehow they detected that my kids weren’t over 18 and said if I didn’t register them under my account it would be deleted.

The fact they can figure out my kids’ ages based on their online behavior, and through their tracking and monitoring is fucking chilling. They don’t even use Gmail often at all.

farmerstan··on GDPR and the Lost Generation of Innovative Apps
What garbage. I would support even tighter restrictions of data to force more companies to shut down. If they need such detailed personal data to survive I would not consider that innovative at all.
farmerstan··on When buying the dip doesn’t work: An analysis of the dot-com crash
What it shows is people who criticize the company don’t actually know anything about it. If you’re going to criticize actually take the time to understand instead of throwing rocks thinking you’re so smart because you read a headline.
farmerstan··on When buying the dip doesn’t work: An analysis of the dot-com crash
You, and everyone that responded to you, have no idea what Juicero was. It wasn’t orange juice at all, or any type of fruit juice. It was green juice. The founder made millions selling his chain of green juice stores on the east coast so he short had a history of success.

I have a friend that worked there so I even tried the product. I thought the idea was vastly overpriced, but it definitely had the chance of working. Lots of people are into green juice vs fruit juice and they were trying to create a new market.
